Yes this is opening night on Broadway ... not THEE opening night of the show completely. As many others have mentoned the VERY FIRST performance of the show the cast sat around the tables for almost the entire first act until La Vie Boheme.
I love you. I mean it. RENT takes second seat to Sweeney Todd, Les Mis comes next. However, back to the matter at hand. I always strive to watch the original cast, and you have made that dream a reality. I see now, I know how to watch RENT. Original broadway cast. RENT (that was attempted you'll see)
Well, remember, Jonathan Larson died the night before opening night. If this was *actually* filmed on opening night, I'm pretty sure the cast were distraught by the loss.
Jonathan Larson died the night before the first Off-Broadway preview, this is the opening night on Broadway, almost a year later. The night that was supposed to be that first Off-bway preview, the cast sat at the table and sang all of act one, until La Vie Boheme, when they got up and danced on the tables, creating the choreography we know for La Vie Boheme today.
Daphne was actually the first one to get up, during Out Tonight.
The first time the entire cast stood up was for La Vie Boheme, where they did the choreography that was already a part of the show..They didn't create it on the spot ;)
i also read in an interview with the original cast that anthony was actually the first one to stand up. but yeah the coreography was definitely already in place.
Haha, I think he did forget! He does always forget his lines, doesn't he? He did it during "Rent" of the 10th anniversary or something... That was great, for th elongest time I didn't know the actual lyrics, just "What's the lyric?" The fact that he has the guts to achknowledge that he doesn't know the words is great :)
