  • i love and grew up on Vern Gosdin and i can relate to his music like this song i have lived it.and if ya like Vern then check out Ed Bruce they were singing at the same time and Ed is just as good.

  • This is real country music by god!!!

  • They don't come any truer.

  • Booze will fix everything

  • Today my world is over ,someone gave it away yesterday.Thats ok .Life goes on right.Very good song.

  • went through this 13 months ago!!!!! i have recovered and started a great life with the Lord leading it this time. He let me try to lead it for a while and didn't like the way I was going, so He tore me down to rebuild me the way I should have to start off with!!!! We have an AWESOME GOD!!!!!

  • Todays country music really kinda Sucks All About the MONEY!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful but sad song. He sure can make me cry!

  • i give u peace like u give me everyday luv u luv me amen

  • ... damn-it-boy, brings a tear of joy to me listening to the "Voice". what a song, what a voice, Vern, rest in peace my friend. ... COA ...

  • the voice

  • sing it Vern

  • great song by Vern Gosdin

  • Srry all you possum fans, but he can't hold a candle to vern, though i still love GJ

  • One of the best country songs ever. "The Voice", Vern Gosdin is a very underrated singer.

  • Alleycat74 you might ever see this comment but you got that shit right Jamey is awesome and true blue counrty and George Strait redone this song and did great job

  • Vern used to laugh every time this song was mentioned because when George put it out, the DJs would often play both versions and ask the public what they thought. Since Vern had written it with Mark Wright, he was getting paid twice every time someone requested the song on radio. Ha ! Ha ! Ha !

  • all these kids think George Strait did this song

  • @1caleman he did in the mid 90's

  • What a beautiful beautiful man, I've loved this man and his music for most of my life. My what a large whole we have without him still singing, but we still have his albums, tapes, cds, and Youtube. Thanks for sharing his music.

  • Sounds real good. i have the george strait version and i love singing this song karaoke.

  • love this and this type of country..always did and always will..like hank jr and the others said there's been a murder on music row...amen a comolete massacre.

  • RIP Vern......

  • I grew up listening and admiring country singers that wrote their own songs telling about their heartaches and the pain they have endured in their lives. Singers like George Jones and Vern Gosdin. Nowadays not only in country music but most music in general a lot of these singers are churning out a dime a dozen songs only designed to line the pocketbooks of the execs at the recording studio who doesn't appreciate a good quality song when they hear one. But God help us if we have our own style.

  • Thanks, Vern for giving away my wife Lori to me at our wedding I Love You Vern !!!

  • This Generation has destroyd Country Music.

  • @keefer2111 I see your point but what would YOUR parents say about the country you call country? Every generation has its OWN sound. They don't want thier parents music. There are some newer artist trying to bring back the older sound but we will see how it goes.

Now personally I enjoy various generations of music and types.

  • @keefer2111 You Are So Right It Sucks!!!!!!!!

  • Not a big fan of Vern gosdin, but I somehow stumbled across his songs and I have been listening to him ever since! Great music and voice too!

  • OMG. I had forgotten how great Vern Goslin was. I wish country music was like this today. Forget the cookie cutter blode barbie doll girl singers and all the George Strait wanna bes.

  • I understand now what it means to have my world slip away from me!!! On August 23rd 2011 my world slipped away cause my daddy passed away,, this song touches me to the bone now... My heart is truely BROKEN!!!! Everyone says it will get easier but i seriously dont believe those words....

  • @bkkuykendall so sorry for your loss , thoughts and prayers to you and yours

  • im gonna tell you boys something take it for what its worth . ive played country and gospel all mmy life. george strait today is still country boys and girls i promise.

  • @TheAllycat74 Jamey Johnson best country singer out today. You might not of heard about him because he dont play the nashville game long hair long beard leather jacket but absolutely the best.Best ive heard since the 70s and thats saying a lot.

  • I see there is 1 fool out there......

  • I am so sick of all that twinkle toe crap they call country today, heck I don't even listen to the radio anymore because of it... Country once was very down to earth, and those greatest singers wrote their own songs, through their own life experiences, which gave a heart to their voices because they felt what they were singing... Today it's all that glamour, twinkie crap, I am so giddy I get to be up onstage for all the world to see...

  • you mean there are actually some country singers who still know what a steel guitar is??? Right... I was raised on Blue grass, mountain music, and all the great old country singers that have walked this earth...Hank Sr, Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, Marty Robbins, Conaway Twitty, George Jones, and Vern fits right in with that crowd... too sad country has become what it is today... pop rock manufactured country They say sometimes change is good, but sometimes it really seriously sucks too!!!

  • who could dislike thi vid???367 likes and ONE dislike ?how can that be

  • this song gives me chills every time I hear it. Nobody will ever replace Vern Gosdin.

  • @lindabibble1 Haha im listning to it. i found it on your channell! its a good song! : ) love you nanny!

  • Not many like this man left. No telling how much longer there will still be people like Willie Nelson out there. Real country music stars, real country singers, real country song writers. Best to get out there now and see them in concert every chance you get because they will not be around forever.

  • I absolutely love anything Vern Gosdin sang.He will surely be missed.God bless you,Vern Gosdin.Rest in peace.

  • How about a song sung by VernGosdin, George Jones, and Gene Watson?

  • Vern Gosdin, Conway twitty, Tammey Wynette, and all those before thanks for the music I still listen to today. Country will always be tere if we keep playin it lets do it

  • No matter what Vern Gosdin sung his voice could melt your heart. R.I.P. to a great man and great voice.

  • I can't believe someone could ever dislike anything by vern gosdin he is truly amazing:)

  • I was driving home from my divorce and this song came on.. talk about along along drive home ..

  • My god what a song!!!

  • WHO'S GONNA FILL THEIR SHOES?

  • this man is better than george strait singing this song ... he put his heart and soul into this song when sung it ....

  • i love his music. he had one of the most beautiful voices in music.

  • awsome

  • Thanks to all the Fans for showing your love for The Voice of Country Music.

Please Vote For Vern and help us get The Voice into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

    TheVoiceOfCountryMusic . c o m

  • you know, i love the fact that Strait sang this song, I will take it as a tribute to Vern but there are people who think Strait sings this better............nothing against Strait but he cant sing this song

  • Vern Gosden was the soundtrack to the best summer of my life! 2005 forever!!!

  • @afpm7 1981 for me. Start of my senior year in high school. Different time and place.

  • His nic. was Vern The Voice

  • awsome artist he knew how to sing country.

  • Country Music hasn't gone anywhere, despite what all the radio stations are trying to do. I play REAL country music every Saturday night. Vern was one of the greatest of all time, for sure. When one of them leaves, somebody has to take over. Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown, Lady Antebellum DON'T cut it for me, sorry. Give me Verrn, Merle, Waylon and Tompall ANY day! Townes Van Zant, Steve Earle, etc, etc, etc.

  • Now this is country music. What happened to it? Where did it go?

  • @cowboyfan1113 The producers in Nashville have taken to pulling everything in such a pop direction and it leaves little room for the true country singer

  • @musicianforjesus agree with u

  • Thanks to all the great fans for showing your appreciation.

Vern dearly loved his fans. Hail to The Voice of Country Music.

  • I love Vern Gosdin. He was the very best. there will NEVER be another Vern Gosdin. I have every cd he ever made. GOD how you're missed Vern. Somehow...I hope you're in Heaven singing...and know how much we all down here miss you!!! RIP!!! When they named you the VOICE ..they sure got it right. You will NEVER be replaced. I will always love you!!! and miss you.

  • ... can't hardly wait to leave this ol rock called earth and go to my Father's House. Just to see and hear Mr. Vern Gosdin sing live one more time... COA ...

  • The Voice....... Nuff said

  • hell yes now thats my man. i tell it like it is hard to do the same

  • A great singer. Thanks for sharing.

  • Too bad "country radio" won't play this wonderful artist. He is one of the great old timers that todays generation will never get to experience. Thanks for sharing!

  • @tammybrenn Country radio isn't country anymore though, its record companies telling them to make them money by playing Taylor Swift and the like to the 14 yr olds

  • Simply put. They didnt call him the voice for no reason.

  • Man, I thought George Strait killed on this song. He did good, but Vern owns It....Chilling!

  • BEAUTIFUL VOICE!!! I have enjoyed him for years and will always!!!

  • Vern A large part of the world slipped away when you left us!

  • Okay, Lareta, here's another super one. Guess we're going down Vern's Memory Lane tonight, huh?

  • I love this song. I miss you, Vern.

  • I did not know that Mr. Gosdin had passed away until just now. Guess I've been out of the loop. What a golden treasure true Country Music had. All of the Traditionalist are slowly going away.

  • @derekjholak Believe it or not, there's still going to be someone to fill their shoes. Not ALL of the current crop just sing like they want to be country. Some really can make it.

  • @doughesson Jamey Johnson gives me hope for Country Music!

  • RIP VERN RIP

Love ya brother and NOBODY could/can sing 'em like you !!

  • A lot of Vern's song's were sad,but you still love em,at least I do,thanks for posting

  • @pjtnletsgovols9 He sang of real life the ups and dowens of it the love lost the heart break we all have some time in our lives but then he tells us we have to lift our selves love the singer found him few weeks ago true country thank you vern rest in peace

  • There was never a voice like Vern Gosdin.

  • I agree wholeheartedly, if they had come out now instead of way back when, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones would be Country. Most of the crap they play on the radio now make me want to vomit, so I just don't listen anymore. Guys like Vern won't ever come around again, and I think it's just sad that the young people only seem to want to listen to a bunch of nasty, sickening talk to a jungle beat.

  • Thanks so much for this video. A lot of us can relate to this song! RIP Vern.

  • very very good

  • Well just like Ol HANK 3..Hank williams the third says..pop country really sucks..nashville and the country music scene sold out to reality tv and hollywood .

  • You folks are right they killed country music. What they call country music today is just pop with the occasinal steel guitar thrown in. It's mostly studio produced garbage. I mess the old days!

  • if you call any comtemporary country staion in america today and request a song like this they will tell you its "too country", how sad

  • @wesbeebub contemporary country , there's no such thing, its all just POP!!!

  • to countrymusic fan 8 thanks so much. Now for the rest. Do you really think that Taylor Swift, Darius Rucker or Zack Brown is in this man' s league? If you do, you ain' t true country. So you' re dismissed. Vern Gosdin, My God what a voice, what a feeling., and what a gentleman. You are and were what it all was about. The new country can' t take a piss in the alley between Tootie' s and the Ryman. You know what I mean. People, go there. It' s history.

  • @starr522 i will agree country is missing from country music today vern was great and i am huge waylon fan so seeing jamey johnson get a chance has give me hope

  • today my world slipped away

  • This is Country music don't forget it.

What is being played now is not and never will be Country Music.

If you look at the great Country artists out there, they are quiting

  • Bravo my friend on this we are on the same page.

  • I used to listen to Vern Gosdin back in the 80's when I was living in Calgary Alberta on CKRY FM 105. What a shock it was to learn that he had passed away. From Montreal, Vern, R.I.P. I will always remember you as the ''VOICE''.

  • Another fantastic song by Vern, you done good by putting it on here. Thanks .

  • I saw Vern years and years ago in little clubs in Texas, where i grew up, it's hard to believe he's gone, RIP....God bless his family this first Christmas without him.....

  • chiseled in stone is another great one. by one of the best ever

  • This man is a legend and this song is the best. It says it all. Vern lived through most of his songs. He personally told me this was a real life thing for him. Im going through it now and I'm alone and afraid...

    Love ya Vern

  • I know it may hard to see right now but there is life after devorce. When one door closes another opens. I know from experince. Be strong and keep the faith.

  • Best damn song ever!

  • To Paulina, yes this is Janie Fricke doin' the back up singing. So good.

  • The Voice that says it all!!

  • Very good oh what a voice thank you for the post I enjoyed it.

  • What a wonderful voice Vern has. He can sing a song that will stay with you forever. This one is so sad but done so beautifully by this great artist. I have been wondering if it's Janie Fricke singing some background on a lot of his songs. She is a great artist herself as we know. Thank you for posting this. - Paula

  • ONE OF THE BEST!!! MISS YOU VERN

  • a great singer he will live on

  • THE song that got me through many teenage love crisis. Thanks. R.I.P.

  • While I didn't hear about his passing untile today. I can tell you that "Today My World Slipped Away", "Too Long Gone" and "You've Got Somebody" are my all-time favorite songs. These are the songs that got me through the highs and lows of my life.

R.I.P. Vern: You've been an inspiration to a whole generation of country-music lovers.!

  • i don't even like country music. i live and die by punk rock and metal. but how can you not LOVE Vern? what a musician.

  • Yep- Hes a hidden treasure, idnt he? Damn Nashville.. Hiding His Ass!

  • Great is great, no matter what

    The Voice was great incarnate.

***** Join that great gig in the sky! *****

  • RIP Vern Gosdin !!

Thank you berrygirl1964 for the share !

  • Berrygirl. thank you so much for sharing this beautiful song. I didn't even hear about his death, which I think is very sad. Seems like the "good ol' boys" like Vern, Jerry Reed, and the rest, they get NO press! Sad!!! These men are my heroes. RIP to them all. Heavens choir just got a little bit bigger!
