If anyone has the album of Vern Gosdin, You've Got Somebody, recorded in 1979, can you please post some songs from it. Some were "You've Got Somebody, I've Got Somebody", "Til I'm Over Getting Over You", "I Took It Like A Man, Cried Like A Baby"," All I Want And Need Forever", "Sarah's Eyes." Thanks for posting.
Alleycat74 you might ever see this comment but you got that shit right Jamey is awesome and true blue counrty and George Strait redone this song and did great job
Vern used to laugh every time this song was mentioned because when George put it out, the DJs would often play both versions and ask the public what they thought. Since Vern had written it with Mark Wright, he was getting paid twice every time someone requested the song on radio. Ha ! Ha ! Ha !
What a beautiful beautiful man, I've loved this man and his music for most of my life. My what a large whole we have without him still singing, but we still have his albums, tapes, cds, and Youtube. Thanks for sharing his music.
love this and this type of country..always did and always will..like hank jr and the others said there's been a murder on music row...amen a comolete massacre.
I grew up listening and admiring country singers that wrote their own songs telling about their heartaches and the pain they have endured in their lives. Singers like George Jones and Vern Gosdin. Nowadays not only in country music but most music in general a lot of these singers are churning out a dime a dozen songs only designed to line the pocketbooks of the execs at the recording studio who doesn't appreciate a good quality song when they hear one. But God help us if we have our own style.
@keefer2111 I see your point but what would YOUR parents say about the country you call country? Every generation has its OWN sound. They don't want thier parents music. There are some newer artist trying to bring back the older sound but we will see how it goes.
Now personally I enjoy various generations of music and types.
OMG. I had forgotten how great Vern Goslin was. I wish country music was like this today. Forget the cookie cutter blode barbie doll girl singers and all the George Strait wanna bes.
Currently in a separation that will likely end in divorce. So very painful. Not my choice. We have a 14 year old daughter. Come home girls.
My wife thinks she has caused to much damage to ever come back and face me and my family. Not true. I forgive her and they do too.
We all know that our parents and loved ones will eventually pass on. But this is just not supposed to happen after 15 years of marriage. It's so painful.
I understand now what it means to have my world slip away from me!!! On August 23rd 2011 my world slipped away cause my daddy passed away,, this song touches me to the bone now... My heart is truely BROKEN!!!! Everyone says it will get easier but i seriously dont believe those words....
im gonna tell you boys something take it for what its worth . ive played country and gospel all mmy life. george strait today is still country boys and girls i promise.
@TheAllycat74 Jamey Johnson best country singer out today. You might not of heard about him because he dont play the nashville game long hair long beard leather jacket but absolutely the best.Best ive heard since the 70s and thats saying a lot.
I am so sick of all that twinkle toe crap they call country today, heck I don't even listen to the radio anymore because of it... Country once was very down to earth, and those greatest singers wrote their own songs, through their own life experiences, which gave a heart to their voices because they felt what they were singing... Today it's all that glamour, twinkie crap, I am so giddy I get to be up onstage for all the world to see...
you mean there are actually some country singers who still know what a steel guitar is??? Right... I was raised on Blue grass, mountain music, and all the great old country singers that have walked this earth...Hank Sr, Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette, Marty Robbins, Conaway Twitty, George Jones, and Vern fits right in with that crowd... too sad country has become what it is today... pop rock manufactured country They say sometimes change is good, but sometimes it really seriously sucks too!!!
Not many like this man left. No telling how much longer there will still be people like Willie Nelson out there. Real country music stars, real country singers, real country song writers. Best to get out there now and see them in concert every chance you get because they will not be around forever.
Vern Gosdin, Conway twitty, Tammey Wynette, and all those before thanks for the music I still listen to today. Country will always be tere if we keep playin it lets do it
you know, i love the fact that Strait sang this song, I will take it as a tribute to Vern but there are people who think Strait sings this better............nothing against Strait but he cant sing this song
Country Music hasn't gone anywhere, despite what all the radio stations are trying to do. I play REAL country music every Saturday night. Vern was one of the greatest of all time, for sure. When one of them leaves, somebody has to take over. Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown, Lady Antebellum DON'T cut it for me, sorry. Give me Verrn, Merle, Waylon and Tompall ANY day! Townes Van Zant, Steve Earle, etc, etc, etc.
@cowboyfan1113 The producers in Nashville have taken to pulling everything in such a pop direction and it leaves little room for the true country singer
I love Vern Gosdin. He was the very best. there will NEVER be another Vern Gosdin. I have every cd he ever made. GOD how you're missed Vern. Somehow...I hope you're in Heaven singing...and know how much we all down here miss you!!! RIP!!! When they named you the VOICE ..they sure got it right. You will NEVER be replaced. I will always love you!!! and miss you.
... can't hardly wait to leave this ol rock called earth and go to my Father's House. Just to see and hear Mr. Vern Gosdin sing live one more time... COA ...
I really like vern, you can hear and feel his music. Funny thing is vern didnt need smoke glitter and all the crap the new boys have to have to sell this they call country music.
how can someone not like this song i think they meant to hit like and there finger slipped shame on u for not loving this song it is sung so beautifully by a wonderful man R.I.P VERN !!!!
Too bad "country radio" won't play this wonderful artist. He is one of the great old timers that todays generation will never get to experience. Thanks for sharing!
@tammybrenn Country radio isn't country anymore though, its record companies telling them to make them money by playing Taylor Swift and the like to the 14 yr olds
I did not know that Mr. Gosdin had passed away until just now. Guess I've been out of the loop. What a golden treasure true Country Music had. All of the Traditionalist are slowly going away.
@derekjholak Believe it or not, there's still going to be someone to fill their shoes. Not ALL of the current crop just sing like they want to be country. Some really can make it.
@pjtnletsgovols9 He sang of real life the ups and dowens of it the love lost the heart break we all have some time in our lives but then he tells us we have to lift our selves love the singer found him few weeks ago true country thank you vern rest in peace
I agree wholeheartedly, if they had come out now instead of way back when, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones would be Country. Most of the crap they play on the radio now make me want to vomit, so I just don't listen anymore. Guys like Vern won't ever come around again, and I think it's just sad that the young people only seem to want to listen to a bunch of nasty, sickening talk to a jungle beat.
Well just like Ol HANK 3..Hank williams the third says..pop country really sucks..nashville and the country music scene sold out to reality tv and hollywood .
You folks are right they killed country music. What they call country music today is just pop with the occasinal steel guitar thrown in. It's mostly studio produced garbage. I mess the old days!
to countrymusic fan 8 thanks so much. Now for the rest. Do you really think that Taylor Swift, Darius Rucker or Zack Brown is in this man' s league? If you do, you ain' t true country. So you' re dismissed. Vern Gosdin, My God what a voice, what a feeling., and what a gentleman. You are and were what it all was about. The new country can' t take a piss in the alley between Tootie' s and the Ryman. You know what I mean. People, go there. It' s history.
@starr522 i will agree country is missing from country music today vern was great and i am huge waylon fan so seeing jamey johnson get a chance has give me hope
I used to listen to Vern Gosdin back in the 80's when I was living in Calgary Alberta on CKRY FM 105. What a shock it was to learn that he had passed away. From Montreal, Vern, R.I.P. I will always remember you as the ''VOICE''.
I saw Vern years and years ago in little clubs in Texas, where i grew up, it's hard to believe he's gone, RIP....God bless his family this first Christmas without him.....
This man is a legend and this song is the best. It says it all. Vern lived through most of his songs. He personally told me this was a real life thing for him. Im going through it now and I'm alone and afraid...
I know it may hard to see right now but there is life after devorce. When one door closes another opens. I know from experince. Be strong and keep the faith.
What a wonderful voice Vern has. He can sing a song that will stay with you forever. This one is so sad but done so beautifully by this great artist. I have been wondering if it's Janie Fricke singing some background on a lot of his songs. She is a great artist herself as we know. Thank you for posting this. - Paula
While I didn't hear about his passing untile today. I can tell you that "Today My World Slipped Away", "Too Long Gone" and "You've Got Somebody" are my all-time favorite songs. These are the songs that got me through the highs and lows of my life.
R.I.P. Vern: You've been an inspiration to a whole generation of country-music lovers.!
it really hit me hard about vern gosdin's death he sung good old country music it is sad that all the great country music singers are getting older and passing away
Berrygirl. thank you so much for sharing this beautiful song. I didn't even hear about his death, which I think is very sad. Seems like the "good ol' boys" like Vern, Jerry Reed, and the rest, they get NO press! Sad!!! These men are my heroes. RIP to them all. Heavens choir just got a little bit bigger!
thanks <3 so good to hear Vern again...

copperhead29 2 years ago 6
to countrymusic fan 8 thanks so much.

I used to listen to Vern Gosdin back in the 80's when I was living in Calgary Alberta on CKRY FM 105. What a shock it was to learn that he had passed away. From Montreal, Vern, R.I.P. I will always remember you as the ''VOICE''.

What a wonderful voice Vern has. He can sing a song that will stay with you forever. This one is so sad but done so beautifully by this great artist. I have been wondering if it's Janie Fricke singing some background on a lot of his songs. She is a great artist herself as we know. Thank you for posting this. - Paula

Berrygirl. thank you so much for sharing this beautiful song. I didn't even hear about his death, which I think is very sad. Seems like the "good ol' boys" like Vern, Jerry Reed, and the rest, they get NO press! Sad!!! These men are my heroes. RIP to them all. Heavens choir just got a little bit bigger!
