Sixty-two captured, Cortés and the other survivors helplessly watched captured spanish soldiers being dragged up the steps to be sacrificed. When they had hauled them up to a small platform in front of the shrine Then after they had danced the papas [Aztec priests] laid them down on their backs on some narrow stones of sacrifice and, cutting open their chests, drew out their palpitating hearts which they offered to the idols before them."
@elissadon Good & fair comments. The Aztec empire & regime were a vile bunch of child sacrificing pagans & heathens who would rip the beating hearts out of their live child victims whilst sacrificing them to their false gods. This "Sacrificing" was not done on a small scale either, hundreds were murdered in this way during their "festivities" then their bodies thrown down the sides of the pyramids & eaten by fellow Aztecs Funny how people ignore these facts or have never been taught the truth..
you know what, this is ridiculous. i was looking for the c.columbus song and all i find is PATHETIC people trying to be funny. i still havent found it and its been 5 minutes!!! :'(
@trisgilmour The American Indians practiced slavery before Columbus
(pyramids) & they ask that they be judged by their time (which was after Columbus) & not ours. The Mayans & Incas practiced human sacrifice & it's asked that we judge them for their time, & that's fine with me. For the same reason, it's just that Christopher Columbus who did much LESS than what some of the Amerindians did during his time & after be judged for his time & not ours
@trisgilmour you are a vulger trashy person!!! did u mom not teach u any manners? I am a historian and those are the facts!!!!!! people like my husband fight for our country and our rights!!!!!!!
@elissadon YOU PICKED THIS 1 ALL I SAID WAS THE TRUTH ABOUT HIM AND YOU COME IN LYING ABOUT THE INDIANS PLUS I HOPE YOU REALIZE BEFORE HE CAME ALONG THERE WHERE NO WAR WEAPONS AND NO TRIBE HAD A WORD FOR WAR OR SLAVERY EUROPEANS INTRODUCED THEM
@trisgilmour Montezuma or Moctezuma was a ruthless Aztec leader who has towns named after him, yet most Amerindian groups aren't asking that towns named after this leader be removed. Let's have the same justness for Columbus who did far less, because most of the Columbus Day bashing is political correctness often based on 1/2 truths & fiction. I am sorry the truth upsets you but the indians didnt always kill enemy indians, they sometimes kept them as slaves or sacrificed them to the many gods!
@elissadon YOU HAVE MANY LIES BUT LITTLE TRUTH. WHEN COLUMBUS FIRST CAME YOU DRINK OUT OF ANY RIVER NOW YOU CAN'T WHO BROUGHT DESTRUCTION. YOU SAY HE DID FAR LESS BUT WHAT ABOUT THE MILLIONS HE BURNED ALIVE

@trisgilmour Aztec priests laid them down on their backs( captured spanish troops) on some narrow stones of sacrifice and, cutting open their chests, drew out their palpitating hearts which they offered to the idols. the practice ended shortly after the successful Spanish conquest of the Aztec empire. No human society known to history approached that of the Aztecs in the quantities of people offered as religious sacrifices: 20,000 a year is a common estimate.
@elissadon i couldnt agree more and in colombus's defense he lived in europe during the time of the inquisition. i mean look who gave him a charter ferdinand and isablle the two who enforced the inquistion the most. colombus must of saw thsese people as monsters.
@trisgilmour you need to travel more, evidence is all around us!! you need to travel more, evidence is all around us!! remains of Inca sacrifices have been dated from as long ago as 5000 B.C.E. Archaeological investigations have found evidence of human sacrifice into the sixteenth century, and this practice is thought to have continued for some time afterward. Tenochtitlan (predecessor to Mexico City) is known to have been the active site of human sacrifices long before Spanish forces arrived.
@trisgilmour The Maya practiced human sacrifice. In some Maya rituals people were killed by having their arms and legs held while a priest cut the person's chest open and tore out his heart as an offering. This is depicted on ancient objects such as pictorial texts, known as codices.
