  • Hey Dave, just a quick question, this is completely irrealevent but are the parker guitars nice to play, are there necks like any other brand like ibanez thanks?

  • @TheTadz9 It's hard to compare to anything else, but they are VERY comfortable. About 10 years ago, I was endorsed by Ibanez France.

I went to the music store to try some new Ibanez guitars, and saw that Parker sitting there.

I had to try it just because of its weird shape and it's been my main guitar ever since.

  • awesome lesson

  • @pletonicsolids Thanks!

  • Ah man I'm gutted I can't watch your videos on my I pad.

  • Very nice and instructive. Thanks David. The point of not overdoing backtrack is essential. I often loose the backtrack goal because of inspiration going on, making more and more layers... which doesn't leave any decent place for guitar.

    Thanks.

  • @GaemethProject Thanks for watching my videos!

  • Great advice. :D

  • @TheFireball100 Thanks!

  • COOL STUFF!!!

  • @JoshuaVergara2777 Thanks for watching!

  • ..do you used to practice to drum beats to get to make compositions easier ..

  • @shishir16089 Yeah, it helps a lot!

  • @Wallimann so can ten min daily do the job ..thanks..

  • @shishir16089 Yeah. Short focused practice sessions are much better than long organized ones. :-)

  • David, I have a few suggestions as far as metal guitar players. Per Nilsson of Scar Symmetry is absolutely fantastic, and has lots of "Holdsworthian" qualities in his playing. Michael Keene of the technical death metal band The Faceless is a great player as well, especially once you can appreciate the music (which can be a bit overwhelming at first to someone who doesn't listen to that style of music).

Also, is there any reason you make backing tracks in Garageband as opposed to Logic?

  • @GuardianOfFate12 Thanks a lot for those suggestions!

I actually know a little of bit of Faceless. Really cool stuff!

The reason I use Garageband the most is that It's so much faster than Logic for "easy" projects such as backing tracks. :-)

  • nice man.

  • Do you use the free demo version of Addictive Drums? I can't afford the real one lol. And I've been using Adobe Soundbooth, is there something I'm missing out on with Garage Band? Thanks in advance.

  • @EpicLemurz I bought the full version of Addictive, Such a great software!

I love Garageband ban, but its only on Mac...

  • @Wallimann Ah. Oh well. I saw that Soundbooth wasn't a host for it, too. Oh well. Thanks for the reply.

  • @EpicLemurz how'd you use it with Soundbooth, then? D:

Or were you using them seperately? :P

  • @ak477394 I tried using them seperately, but didn't have the patience lmao. So, I just download free drum tracks and put them in :P

  • @EpicLemurz Oh :P hahaha, okay :D

  • Hey David, this helps a lot. Two questions remaining though:

    1. What's the name of the bass plugin?

    2. I heard a hammond-like sound in one of your other tracks (aeolian island groove?) and I wondered if you could recommend a good synth-plugin for these purposes.

  • @DerCorny Thanks man!

All the sound banks are the ones coming in Garageband. Except for the drums which are Addictive Drums...

  • @Wallimann

    Thanks a lot!

  • really agree with you on the strings part. almost every song i even think about making involves strings. i do however like a very big sound, with lots of elements, eh shakers, multiple synths (since i use reason). great tutorial, definitely going to try some of those things!

  • @WarLockGuitar169 Thanks buddy! :-)

  • Man this was your most helpful video..

  • @seckin12 Thank you!

  • Thank you!

  • Hey David, I've seen your lessons on guitarmasterclass and have learned a ton from ya, its really good to see this lesson here on youtube, glad I found it!!!!!

  • @TheTom5150 Thanks Tom!

  • Brilliant! I always learn something from your videos :) What do you think about Death Metal? I'm sure you're not into it but I'd be interested to hear what you think of the genre. Would love to see you play some too!

  • @EquinoxOfTheGods Thanks man!

I'm not too familiar with the genre, any recommendations for me?

  • @Wallimann Death Metal is a unique beast. There's "classical" death metal which is what the hardcore proponents of the genre say is the ONLY death metal. Those are bands like Death and Norther. Then there's the "new" death metal style (often called by the name "deathcore") which has bands like Job for a Cowboy, Whitechapel, and Emmure. Then there all all the metal bands in between. A lot have REALLY good guitar players (Children of Bodom being one of my favorites). Hope that helps :)

  • @TheMetalGuitar123 Thanks a lot man!

  • Voila donc tes secrets ;)

Super cette vidéo , tres pedagogique , ca donne envie de m'y remettre tiens...! Bon reveillon , et a l' année prochaine !

  • @dwarfab Merci! Bonne année à toi aussi!!!

  • you're an amazing musician. I hope you become famous, and accomplish everything you want to accomplish in your musical journey. wow. I love this :)

  • @dahudge14

    Thanks a ton buddy!

    Happy new year!

  • Hey man, i seen one of your JamPlay videos on youtube last night, the theory series, wanted to see more so i got a subscribed on jamplay for a month for starters. Have to say they are brilliant! Your teaching methods are really easy to understand and I have already got through all of the scale and interval videos so I'm going to start on modes today! I am very excited as I've been playing for about 10 years (21yo now) but on and off because I hit a wall years ago and always got bored......

  • @bellers ......with playing the same ols stuff. So im really going to give this theory stuff a real go, I have tried learning modes before but never got my head around them, so hopefully your way of teaching will shed some light on them!! The interval lesson has already answered a lot of questions I had for years! Can't believe its taken me this long to learn about them!! So thanks very much!!

  • @bellers Oh, and don't hesitate to ask me if you have questions. I'll make my best to answer!

  • @bellers Thanks! Glad you like all this1

  • I just love the chord progression and the overall sound!!! Cheers, Dave!

  • @Me7aLfAn Thanks!

  • You seem like a good composer and you play very swell, I was wondering, do you have an album out somewhere?

  • @NickSandt Thanks Nick!

I have a solo album called Deep Inside The Mind available on cdbaby and ITunes.

But I kind of changed styles since.

  • @Wallimann Awesome album title!

  • Hey i wanna ask you some tech question... do you need an audio interface if you wanna use a MIDI keyboard?

  • @diazluisdiaz No, you can use USB too. :-)

  • Great backing. It's a good idea to start with drums, I use to do the same things but I only record some rhythm guitar...the bass line is a good idea lol

  • @112358miau Thanks! Glad you enjoy this!

  • aww man, we coulda used a bit more improv! =[

  • This is very helpful! :) I did a song for a friend of mine who wasnt playing much guitar at the time this summer. It was also a lot of fun to do for me. This makes me wanna do another one =) Thank you!

  • Since video's on backing tracks, I've been wondering. I notice that the backing tracks mostly are in 4/4 timing. I don't have a problem with that, but I've been wondering if you plan on using odd timings (3/4, 5/4, 7/4 for instance) for some future backing tracks :).

I've been recently looking for some for general practice, but haven't really found any.

  • @udsahn Great idea!

I'll try to get some done! :-)

  • hey dave! when are you making HD videos?

  • @piccicacca It's funny you mention, I just bought an HD Camcorder...

Should work better than the built in webcam, huh? :-D

  • the beard is coming back!XD

hey btw mate im making a youtube channel for actual uploads tomorrow subscribe?

  • @slipknotandmh I'll check your channel! :-)

  • One of the best teachers on youtube!

  • @DVHThrudgelmir Oh man, thank you!!!!

  • @DVHThrudgelmir I agree with that!

  • Hey David, do you have backing tracks on your website that favor rhythm playing over them, rather than leads?

Also, thanks for showcasing your process for doing these!

  • @Darkaileron Thanks for watching! No I don't simply because the demand is so low... :-/

  • @Wallimann Well to be honest i`d really like that idea for such a backing track! would be awesome!

  • Great insightful vid DAVE! Kudos..Also +1 @ @312chicagiadam says bout wishing you were in Chicago!

  • @petepachio Thanks a lot man! :-)

  • Thanks Dave this was a excellent lesson, learnt loads and will put them into my tool bag ..Thanks

  • @col33145 Thanks Colin! :-)

  • David is a very sincere, knowledgable and talented musician. His love for teaching others shows. I also like the idea of providing the tools so YOU can apply what you learn. BRAVO my friend!

  • @GuitarPro6tutorials Thanks so much!!!! That means a lot buddy! :-)

  • David,,,you are an absolute TREASURE! I wish you lived in Chicago, I'd probably drive you NUTS, picking your brain on a daily basis! Oh Well,,,,to be the BEST, you gotta play with the BEST, right?

(Thumbs WAY Up for Addictive Drums, too!)

  • @312chicagoadam Thank you soooo much for your nice words! :-)

  • @Wallimann ...and Thank YOU for continuing to put out QUALITY Videos in an Informative AND Entertaining manner! You inspire me every time I check one of your vids out...TRULY!

(,,,and Thumbs WAY Up for Strings,,,I'm a sucker for their sound, too!)

  • Hi David. Just wanted to let you know that the drum software link is broken.

  • @GuitarPro6tutorials Thanks Stephen, fixed! :-)

  • @Wallimann No problem my friend:). Have a safe and Happy New Year!

  • Great video. I'm currently making as many backing tracks to jam on as possible, for a similar reason to you (though I still use many GPB backing tracks ;)) it's amazing that you get such a professional sound from the Apple's standard recording program!

  • @roryrockssocks Yeah, Garageband really is great! Only thing I changed is the drums which is Addictive Drums. :-)

  • I'm extraordinary impressed by how simple you made this sound. I've tried and failed at doing this before and I knew for sure that I was overdoing it but couldn't stop since I was really unsure about how to go about it in the first place.

This video has changed my perception on what I'm supposed to be doing for the better. Thanks heaps!

  • @radicalgarbage02 That's great to hear! Keep me posted on your progress and let me know if there is anything else you need! :-)

  • awsome! ur the coolest dave grazi!

  • @MrLaRcOrE Hehe! Thanks buddy!

  • Hi, that very interesting. I was wondering though would it differ if you were setting about writing a song rather than a backing track? Would you follow similar methods? It would be cool to see more of this type of stuff. Thanks for sharing.

  • @FatHarrysArt Glad you like this!

Songwriting would be somewhat similar. It all depends on the style of song.

There isn't really any rules. Personally I usually spend much more time on songs, I add complexity and lots of ear candy in it. At least I try!

  • Nice backing track too !!!!

  • @victotvictorvictor Thanks!

  • Cool, thanks for sharing.

  • Wow! I'm really glad you shared these tips :). I might have to give this a try sometime in the future to see what I come up with. I imagine one of the hardest parts of this is coming up with a groove that works while not over doing it.

Thanks a ton buddy, and take care! :)

  • @udsahn Thanks for watching and continuous support Jason!

  • Very Nice.

  • @TheStitchisBack Merci, merci...

  • *if music was too perfect its not alive* this is something EVERY musician and artist should mark in their notes and understand it FULLY music is expression not perfection THANK YOU sir
