  • this would've been more useful (my opinion, i'm not hating or anything) if one one foot had been a dead one and on the other a relatively new one. then it's be easier to see the difference.

  • The song is from don q, I think the piece is called "their friends" or something like that

  • wats the song at the start and end it sounds nice for a ballet solo

  • lisa made another video on how to break pointe shoes in and every commented that they tryed it and their shank broke. so maybe she broke the shank too and in the other video she goes over the block too. cheack it out

  • No matter how clean the floor is.. the shoes HAS to get dirty by the time it's worn out.. seriously. Just becos any floor looks clean.. it doesnt mean it has to dirt.

  • @smdumdumsm Maybe she wears socks!

  • i have a really high arch and a really wide foot, i can only fit grishko pointe shoes and i dont like them!! and once i brake them in they get worn out in like 3 days and they r the hard ones too!!!! so i cant get a different brand cuz no other ones fit me. and my foot isnt even completely to the strength it will be cuz its only my 2nd year of pointe. im 12 years old. so if anyone has any ideas on what i could do plz tell me!!!!! tnx ~Jess

  • @realnewsgirl You've tried all of the brands? You can't use Freed?

  • @realnewsgirl Try gaynors. You can get them custom made and they will not die. They also will not let you go over too far either. They are great for strong feet. (or if you have a high arch) Hope this helps!!

  • @realnewsgirl Definitely try gaynors mindens. I had the same issue with my feet because they are very wide in proportion to their size. I have a really high arch and gaynors are perfect because they're not made of canvas like other pointe shoes. They will not break on you! :)

  • hello on my right pointe the arch had completely snapped is there anything i can do with them or do i need new ones?

  • @dancerpenny you need a new one, the same happened to me and even you fix it it doesnt stay after you staart working your feet. I went through 3 pairs of shoes in one dance year

  • glad i saw this video! On my way to a dance store... lol!

  • @Pointeshoeful well that thing u call "wisdom" of yours even if you dance 1 hour a week doesnt mean they will even last a month, it depends on how strong your feet are and how your teacher teaches..

  • @JodoPony69 my pointe shoes are very clean, i dance on white marble, wood now.

  • Hello, I just bought new pointe shoes yesterday and I think they're dead already because the middle is digging into my arch. is it safe to dance in them?

  • hi i am 14 and about to go en pointe and im just wondering how long will my pointe shoes last if i have a one hour class once a week and sometimes a little more? can anyone help me?

  • oh my goodnes the shoes orsoo clean lol mines r super dirty hahahah guilty

  • you no when they are dead if the dont make no noise when u drop them on the floor or if your shoe can be folded in half or you can press all the way down in your box or feel like all you do is feel the floor...

  • My foot hurts everytime I see someone stand on pointe...why is that o__o

  • Thanks for the advice!

  • is it good if the wing of a pointe shoe seems like its seperated from the box?

  • I Dont know why but i like dead shoes because it takes to long to break in new ones:/ x great video Though:) <3

  • can you make one of how to tell when they are ready for pointe shoes please?

  • This little girl has amazingly well developed calf muscles :=0

  • now i know my pointe shoes are definitely dead :( but this helped me so much!!! she is a beutiful dancer btw (:

  • i prefer dancing in a broken shoe to a new pair...

  • alot of people aim for feeling the floor with the shoe its actuly a good thig...but i have a broken arch and i dnce just fine with them i actuly prefer my broken pair over my new pair

  • I broke my shank but they feel alot better. Ihave the Eroupean Balances. They have a really soft shank. I don't know if I ruined my pointe shoes.

  • i dance on broken arches. its a personal preference. really u should only worry when ALL of the things she mentioned are happening. and when you can feel the floor on your toes (like really painfully)

  • oi, I just got new pointe shoes and they're already dead. I need a super hard shank and a high vamp too I think.

  • thankyou so much for posting! That was really helpful. I'm off to check mine now! :)

  • wowo

  • i dont care i ♥ dead and alive

  • if your shoes are dying(almost dead, the box extremely soft) and you have recital a few days later, don't buy a nu pair. put super glue in them and they will be a little better. not 100% new but not as soft and dead like before. i had to do this so i know haha. ive gone through 2 pairs already on my first year haha

  • so u spread a coat of super glue on the inside of the shoe & let them dry?

  • no put glue along the arch on the outside. i did this with my dead pair and they worked for a while but then the glue cracked the whole shoe. then they were really dead.

  • oh ok thank you very much. =]

  • How long does it usually take for your pointe shoes to be dead? I really hope they last more than a season!!!!! plz plz plz plz tell me that! :)

  • It depends on the brand, model, and dancer. We can't give you a specific amount of time.

  • It can last from weeks to months, it depends whether you have your ideal shoes for your feet or the brand, padding or strength of your foot. Make sure if your getting them, you have them properly fitted and break them in properly, this is how they last longer. :)

  • Comment removed

  • um actually it also depends on how much time you dance in them! if you're doing ballet recreationaly pointe shoes may last a year, but i'm in pre-professional ballet school and i dance every day in my shoes for several hours and mine are completly dead in about a week! unfortunally i spend a lot of money buying new and new pointes! ;)

  • LOL I know how you feel! :P

I have begun to consider just ordering them from DIscount Dance Supply... especially when I know what I'm looking for...

But my teacher would literally rip me apart... :D

    Good luck w/ your dancing!

  • I havent had a pair of pointe shoes that has lasted over 3 weeks and i've tried just about every brand. (my feet are really hard to fit) idk how you get yours to last so long. My first pair of pointe shoes only lasted 2 weeks.

  • lol wow.....for some reason mine last forever! i guess theyre a good brand, cuz i practice in them about 3 days a week

    :P

  • get harder shanks. the hardest you can get. russian pointes hard shanks last forever. i have them

  • My shoes are so broken that I can feel the floor through my toe pads!! lol the shank is broken really bad to! I can bend my shoes in half! lol

  • You should see my pointes!! ,= |

  • thank you ive been on pointe for a couple years and it still seems to me that i can never tell when my shoes are dead my teachers are always telling me...thanks you! :)

  • i dun lyk bloch

  • I put the ouch pouch in and sometimes my feet still hurt. i dont know what to do when that happens.

  • I've found the best pointe pads are Leo's Soft Gel.

  • i find that wearing lambs wool or no pads is the best,

with leos soft gel you cant feel the floor and you dont really konw what your feet are doing

  • thats probably so bad for your feet!

  • how is that bad for your feet?

  • well it sounds bad. im defiantly not a professional but it sounds like it hurts really bad! my doctor tells me to get the thicker ones so im not in pain after dance. i mean everyone is different but does it hurt you??

  • no having thicker toe pads hurts more

  • i think mine can be a little bit thinner but using the lambs wool hurt me so bad! lol how long have u been doing pointe for?

  • whats white marley?

  • I just got new shoes three days ago and I feel like I might have broken them in too much so they might be dead. Is this possible? I really don't want to buy another pair of shoes so soon. PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • yes, that is possible, it happened to my friend

  • thank you sooooo much!!!!

  • thank you!

    you are helping every dancer,,,

    hugs

  • Great video!

  • Im still not sure of weather my pointe shoes are dead or not. the platform of my box is soft enought that if you push on it i can still feel the preassure when i have my ouch pouch on. did my pointe shoes go dead? please help!

  • Those sound very ready to retire. Mine turned like that and I kept using them but they just went into a very rapid decline and then it actually made it really hard to use them as they hurt so much. I think you should switch now before it gets worse. Hope that is helpful!

  • thanks! yah i got new ones on wednesday! that is what happened it just got worse and it hurt to go on pointe. but my new ones are great!

  • omg! even tho they're old those pointe shoes look so clean!!

  • Thanx so much, now I will knoe when they are dead!!!!

  • where do you teach at?

  • great advice, thanks for that!

  • my name is Megan too and I am a ballet dancer!!! I know that was random

  • My name is Megan and i do ballet aswell

    haha, random ;]

  • I am 13 :)

  • Lisa i want to ask you something.i was doing ballet for 5 years and i stopped when i was 12 because my one leg is 1ch shorter than the other. But i am so in love with ballet. Now i am 18.Can i start again? Will it cause me any problems? When i stopped i was just learning how to dance on point shoes,so i was so sad.

  • what about if they squeak :L mine do alot..i need newones anyway but are they dead if they squeak?

  • sometimes yes. I know people whos shoes will be shedding powder (actually old glue coming off their shoes) and their shanks squeak. What kind of shoes are they?

  • the make is bloch....th shank is squeaking alot and then i get funny looks :L do you reckon they are dead? i need new ones but if i say they are dead thn i can get new ones quicker =] ty for replying

  • no problem- do you know what the "strength" of the shank is? (like super soft, hard, etc)? can you easily bend the shank in half and feel your feet sinking or rolling out of them?

  • im gonna take a guess and say hard..i wouldnt say soft...i can bend th shank but no in half...i think they are on th verge of dying bless them :L

  • bless our pointe shoes... they take such a beating! i think yours are ok for now, you'll feel them dye when you start feeling your feet knuckle slightly or roll out. good luck!

  • Obvioulsy shes gona say yes cos she thinks its rude to say no and it is yh but the phisy somthing does tell her wat 2 say

  • And eaiser way to find out if there dead:

If the box is soft and the shank can bend like a ballet slipper then they are dead

  • i have russian points they r amazing i love them!

  • OMG i wear them too and i LOVE them!!!!!!!!!!!!! they actually last more than a week for me and that is saying something!!!!!!!!

  • HOW DO YOUR SHOES LAST ONLY A WEEK ?

  • i have a really big arch so ya, but i spoke too soon i like the russian pointes but they really tear up my feet i some major bkisters so now im going back to gishkos and im gonna specail order them so that theyre super hard inside of the regular hard

  • I have some Grishkos... they are amazing, so easy to break in. Russian Pointes are GREAT too!

  • thanks for the video i was kinda confused about that coz i am starting pointe in a few days and i dont know much about them but i am really excited!

  • omg o.o

one of my pointe shoes squeak when i walk on pointe ;o

    that means is broken? ;/

    omg =o

  • not necessarily. depending on the brand, it may just mean they are softening a little. there is a chance they may be broken, but as long as you feel supported, I wouldn't worry about it.

  • aah ;D thnx^^ i will ask my teacher as soon as we open :]

  • if they're blochs, they usually tend to squeak when they aren't broken.

it really does depend on the brand.

  • Okay so I just got my first pair of pointe shoes.

They are russian pointes, which I see not that many people have. They are full shanks, but i'm not sure the sizes of the vamp and stuff like that.

can anyone tell me their experience with pointe? and also if you have russian pointes please please tell me about them.

    thanks1(:

  • I had russian pointes, i didn't like them. I thought that they felt like they were holding me back, but that's just for my feet. I really like the full shank, so I switched to Grishko Elites. The only problem with those is i wanted a narrower platform, but i also have really wide feet. Sorry if this didn't help. :D

  • I had russians but mine got broken to easily!

to meh they were really soft!

But they lasted about 3 months for me but i had 2 class a week and a few weeks off.. so i say russians last a month or so but they fit wounderfully! It honestly depends on what you think :) But "Bloch" To meh are a REALLY good brand :] My bloches last 5 months plus 2 recitials... So i say bloch but its up to your feet :)! And also how they fit you and if it hurts your feet. etc.. lol

    Hope that helped!

  • Russian Pointes, for me, are very flattering on the arch and the ones I had broke in just below the heel earlier than the other areas, which is what flatters the arch.

when it comes to pointe and the pain associated with it, you will have your share of good days and bad days but the pain lessens as your feet get tougher (more callused) and as you get used to the feeling yourself.

  • i trust her. lol.

i remember when i got my pointe shoes [two yrs ago]. they started dieing after a few months. the shank gives absolutly no support and its in half after the box of the shoe. i keep on telling my parents to buy me new ones but they keep on protesting. my mom said she would but she she stalling. i just felt like talking. so yeah.....

  • i don't understand hahaha

  • I have a pair of shoes that are so dead they might as well be canvas ballet flats... =.= Mine look dead though... that girl's shoes still LOOKED gorgeous and new... my shoes last a while...

  • yep, mine died this week, they are grishko's 2007's, does anyone have a favorite brand i should try?

  • wow thank you so much for that info god bless you

  • thnx so much for adding this video i found out tht my pointe shoes were dead but now ive got a brand new pair..

  • I think my left shoe is dead ; /

  • I'm prepared to trust this woman, since she is a physio...

  • those pointe shoes r soooooo not dead!!!

  • you can see right where the board is broken. -_-

  • also if you are just standing up on flat in 1st position and you can see ripples or wrinkles on the thin/beginning part of the box, there dead R.I.P

  • not always that can just be that the shoe is slightly long

  • yea cuz i have my dance shows at Brenau theater today and i tried on my old point shoes last night and the heels were just very streched out

  • omg! my pointe shoes are dead! and it has been a week since i bought them!

  • that means that your to strong 4 them. get a pair that has a harder shank

  • i really need help on my turnout - i pretty much have knock knees - can you help please!!???

  • well i know when my pointe shoes are dead when they are filthy!

    hahahahaha

just kidding... new pointes are expensive!

  • it dangerous and you could break your ancle, but the best way to tell if your shoes are deadis when they start sqeeking

  • that is sooo absolutly NOT true........min nd my friend pointe shoes were a couple of weeks old and we broke them in and they started to squeak. they are so not dead... i know lots of peoples shoes that squeak and they are far from dead.

  • that can just be the bendyness of some peoples feet, its dangerous to dand in them once there sqeeky, i have to buy new pointes every week or 2 and i use extra strong backs and only dance for 3-4 hours a week, my feet are that bendy!!!!!!

  • mine squek but they are not dead.

  • squeak?? how??

  • they crack when you dance.

  • i mean like squeak when you walk.

  • hehe, mine never have. they've been slippery and when they're new they are loud but i've never heard a pair that have squeaked.

  • Oh my gosh! My last ones would squeak so bad when i walked on demi-pointe. It drove me insane!!!

  • mine squeak when I walk all the time.. no matter if they are new or dead *laugh*

    how brand are yours?

  • Bloch I used to have the Serene now I have the Serenade MK II. My first pair started to squek when I walked so they were too small.

  • mine are Leo's, but both I had squek when I walked so.. I have no idea.

  • i love the serenade. i use the exact same ones :)

  • what do you mean by they crack when you dance??

  • Thank You for posting this!!!

  • This video was really good and explained dead shoes really well. I'm happy I saw it.

  • my shank isnt broken- yet my shoes have a well arch. if your 'ankle' goes over your toes- it onley means you have a well arch support

  • ive danced on poinie 4 2 yrs ive had 6 pairs of shoes

  • That's not good...At all.

  • i know my feet keep growing!!!!lol i went from a size 5 to a 8 in 2 yrs!

  • Oh okay then. I thought you kept breaking them haha. My bad. Your feet shouldn't grow anymore, so I think you're good:)

  • fankz i know well i hope for god!

  • You shouldn't even be starting pointe until your feet are done growing!

  • No, two years ago all the feets of my group hasn't stop growing. and if you'll wait till they are stopped growing you're maybe too late, you see?

  • No that is not right.

Because if your feet are still growing then you can wreck your meditarsal from your pointe shoes.

Your meditarsal will actually bend to the form or your shoes because your feet arent fully grown, and you can completly wreck your feet. It's not good!

  • plus as you get older feet always grow and change my dads 63 and still getting bigger shoes lol

  • Whaha

If you really need to wait till your feets stop growing, you never can dance on pointes ;)

    sorry for my bad english.

  • u think thats alot ive been up 4 1 and like 4 months and ive been through 26! but i also went to an 8 week sumer session at orlando so that took care of alot

  • Me too and i've got 1 soft point, 2 real pointes :D

  • I Dont Have Any Shoes Im Just Bored..:D Im So Random ! :D:D:D

  • i have broken 4 Pointe' shoes, i broke the platform on my frist pair, the arch on my second, both platfroms and the arch on my third and the platfom on my second. i just used my fith pair for the first time last might!!! (oh, and i'm onoly about halfway through my second year!!!!)

  • you can special order shoes from Freeds with double shanks or even steel shanks. You can also have them made just for your feet. Call Freed's and get some info. good luck

  • i'll look at the prices but i still am just starting and my daddy would be mad at me if they were anything over what my normal price range is... which i found one i like and my last 2 pairs have been these and i just recently got a new pair... which the box is a little too small but ill deal with it... thanks though, ill check this place out

  • Thank you so much. You're videos are sooooo helpful!

  • I need help on my turn outs! do you have any info on that??

  • thank you! your videos are so helpful! could you maybe make one that helps with staying over the box of your pointe shoe? that's my main problem! anyone got advice?

  • Oh help me to! lol

  • hey thanks!

  • thank you. i will tell my ballet/pointe teacher. i don't want to get injured

  • Thanks for this! =)

  • thats a great vid. i dug out my 10 yr lod pointe shoes to see how dead they are and my god they are dead!!!!!

  • hallo, i really love your vids, could you maybe also make a video on how to improve your turnout??? i have the wors problems with it, it is mainly none-existant ;) and i know and see so many with problems concerning turnout. thank you so much!!!

  • Oh i know!

I have been practicing my turnout for ever and it is not getting better!

  • omg i have learned from ALL your videos lisa your always there for help wen i need it thank you verryyyy much

  • am i supposed to be able to feel the floor through the toes of my shoe when im up on pointe? because i can, and it's really off-putting! thanks

    ExtremeSparkle

  • my teacher says thats one of the ways you can tell your shoe is dead (if you use toe pads)

  • Thank you thank you so much miss lisa.

  • thanks heaps for that! but i still don't know how you can get on the exact flat of the platform. How can i get right over the front edge of the box without letting go of my ankles?

  • Yay another video! We haven't had many lately and they are a thing to look forward too. Thanks this is interesting, i always wondered that. What about if the shoe doesn't go over so far but actualli goes all mushy so it rolls u back off pointe. I asume thats dead aswell? Thanks!

  • thanks so much! that was exactly what i've been wondering! thank youuu!!!
