  • This song is the first song I heard from FM&MR, been a fan ever since

  • I have seen Frank Marino many times in the late 70's early 80's in Tampa, Awsome

  • I love this song but what ever happened to that tune you guys did at the " Tales of the Unexpected" tour I think called, :10 Little Indians" here in at the Warner's theater? Would love to get my hands on a recording of that one too! Don't ever stop playing for God's sake.I just wanted to say that I know you were influenced by Jimi but you are a highly original guitarist with an awe inspiring bassist and drummer. --just a dragonfly buzzin' around.

  • the best

  • Franck Marino une tuerie....

  • It sounds to me like Franks just using alot of effects on his guitar thats all and that extra rhythm guitar your hearing is his "Brother" playing off to the side of the stage, Something he did from time to time, Hard to see him in this video but you can see him in some of the early "King Be Baby" videos. Turn it up Frank!!!

  • @4speedpony I hope that was the case! Still, he shoulda introduced him and given him a little credit. People probably would have thought it was cool! I hope that helps dispel the "loop" stories. I met Frank at Tower Records in Seattle in 1977, and he was a pretty trippy guy. Happy, and not the least bit arrogant. Definitely stoned.

  • I love Frank as much as anyone, but this was from the era when he was accused of having some over-dubbed stuff going on through the PA. You can here some rhythm guitar happening that he can't be playing...

  • @Prestostark

Oh No Not another Milli Vanilli Episode...LOL

  • @sandran7121 No worries there! Frank has more talent in his pinky finger than most acts. It was actually too bad that the rhythm guitar loops were in there - not like he needed them. I saw him several times in the mid to later 70's and he totally kicked ass with no loops...

  • @Prestostark

.Here in America I never see someone in concert sing and chew gum. That stands out so much with me.

  • @sandran7121 Ted Nugent used to chew gum when he was with "Damn Yankees"...I never understood it. He never used to do it earlier in his career. When I saw Mahogany Rush in the earlier days, I don't remember the gum chewing thing...But Frank cant help it...He's Canadian! And anyway...Even if he was, it was worth it, to watch him play the shit out of that SG....

  • @Prestostark

I never knew Ted Nugent sang and chew gum.

Never heard of Frank Marino.I know back in the day he was some piece of Eye candy...LMAO

  • @sandran7121 Nugent only chewed gum with Damn Yankees. Weird. I've got some old black and white photos of Frank at Tower Records in Seattle, 1977 or so. His skin was a little ruddy, but he had some pretty nice hair.

If you've never heard Frank Marino much, you have to give his "Live" album a listen. His version of "Johnny B. Goode" and "Who Do You Love?" and the rest just rocks. His "World Anthem" album get s a little sappy, but there is some epic stuff on there, too.

  • @Prestostark

I do not know any of Frank's music.I live in the United States.I will check it out. Here on You Tube

  • I'll play his guitar for him...LMAO

  • Last Time I Heard This Guy In New York City At The Bottom Line He And His Band Played

Insanely Prodigious And Ultra Polished,Effortlessly And Impressively But To My Surprise The

Bulk Of The Crowd In There Virtually Ignored The Band As Though The Music Were Out Of

Date Or Something? It Was A Strange Night To Be Sure But I Guess Some People Will Sell

Their Soul For Current Fashion And Look Down Their Noses At What They Percieve To Be

    Irrelevant Remnants Of The Past?

  • The urban legend surrounding Marino is- around when hendrix died- marino knew nothing about guitar playing--then frank had a dream one night . in it Hendrix visited him and handed him a guitar and said 'here man, you take over from here"...apparently he woke up knowing how to play- this is how i heard it...at least.

  • @4 speedpony.Heck here in America I hear they print lyrics on an album cover for Crissakes!

Frank does play a mean guitar.I like this song. But very unprofessional to be chewing gum when you sing..

  • This, kids, is what is called a GROOVE.

  • Ahh, Mahogany Rush, I remember this band and song in Jr high, WAY WAY ahead of their time, This band was nothing short a stick of dynomite, His guitar tone was so Incredible".to say the least and a voice to match! No one unerstood Jimi Hendricks voice either but it didnt matter.......

  • I Want To Touch That Hair...LOL

  • He's a multi-tasker.Chews gum while he sings and plays guitar...LMAO

  • The only disappointment.You can't hear a damn word he's saying.But he's cute...LOL

  • I live in the United States. This guy is DAMN...HOT...

I never heard of him before. But I like this song

  • Frank,,,I grew up in Montreal in the early 70,s and in the Mid 70,s KISS ruled,,,Then came Stevie Ray,,,Then Van Halen,,But Frank still has what it takes to get it done

  • @MegaRiktane

If Frank got what it takes to get it done.WILL IT HURT SOME ONE TO POSSIBLY POST WHAT THE HELL HE'S SINGING?

  • Oh yeah - James Ayoub on the drums..underated

  • Yeah. It's good to see Joe Franco get a little bit of Love. The guy kicks serious ass.

  • @vanhalen515084...I totally hear you on that. That's the difference. Musicians and "Artists" are nothing alike. Hell even singers are ok in my book cause EVERYBODY can't sing. Anyone can run around on stage w/ your pants falling off yelling YO YO YO....... But i'm just from another generation. If u aint singing or playing something.......I'm not interested

  • Frank Rocks. This song is a favorite. Thanks for uploading.

  • I've seen Frank sveral times in70;s and 80's. One of the best guitarists you'll ever see and I've seen all the great ones at least once.

  • just fantastic thanks for uploading

  • Why is there not a DVD of this amazing concert? I saw this in 1981 on Radio Quebec TV and it completely blew me away. Brilliant performance!

  • I love this tune in the emergency room. Makes time fly.

  • kewl lil tune...21

  • GODDAMN BOYS ...NOW THATS A ROCK STAR....

  • i wish i could play this on guitar, but i can play born under a bad sign

  • @jacksonhilli222 i can play like that cept i'm a nut case that can't ever afford nuthin but warped ass guitars

  • Summer of 1978 place de nacion in montreal .at La Ronde. Eddy Money opened for him. Outside, hot summer night . i'll never forget it. One of the greatest shows ever! Frank just rocked all night . Played this song and many more like Hendrix' star bangled banner! Awesome .

  • @nickjr600 I missed that one but I was at Jarry park in Montreal June 9 was it 88 or 89. He opened for ( drum roll) ......SRV. What would have gone wrong that night. Obviously the musical night of my life. Surprisingly it was cold and there wasn;t a lot of people. SRV had just lost his father a couple of days ago and he had lost his gears. But he managed to get a fu...ng great show.

  • i don't about you guys but frank's phrasing and note attack reminds me alot of eric johnson.

  • @sebkw96 I don't know about you guys, but Eric Johnson's phrasing and note attack reminds me a lot of Frank Marino. FTFY

  • @sebkw96 I don't know about you guys, but Eric Johnson's phrasing and note attack reminds me a lot of Frank Marino. FTFY

  • I can't understand how anyone can dislike the work of Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush.

  • @jannyrcobs I can't understand how you even try to think about it :P

  • @TheMetalHead554 when i hear this, i can't even think, so cool, one of the top 10 rock players of all time

  • @vanhalen515084 I can't say something about that because I haven't heard much of his work but when I listened this song on tv I was amazed ;)

  • This song somehow reminds of Funkadelic's "Cosmic Slop"

  • Couldn't agree more with freethinktherefore. Except, I would also add authentic and unique.

  • No one knows. At least very few do. This guy gave you $1.50 for every buck . More talented and original than he's ever been given credit for. Visionary. Challenging. Some o THE very heaviest.

  • Montreal Forum, opening for Nazareth. I was there that night. Frank did a 20 minute solo under a strobe light I almost lost my rum all over the floor. LOL

  • That is year me and my old lady got hitch.

  • dragonfly :D

  • I love the groove in this song.

  • i hav'nt heard this n so long k-she95 real rock radio st louis the good ol days

  • I would LOVE a HD version of this!!!

  • Punk?? Wow not even close! I guess you think Hendricks was punk then? Some people are clueless !

  • Great piece of kick ass SG sound. What a band he had then...I agree with many of you...the drummer is awesome...what's his name? What can you say about Frank that hasn't been said before....wish I was at that very concert.

  • Wicked chops but oy vey. Having to sit through three minutes of tuneless yelling and funky porno rock just to get to flanged out solo, awesome as it was? Sorry guys but this is why punk happened.

  • Gotta love Frank !

  • This shit is sick. EXCELLENT.

  • Saw him live in Albuquerque, NM on the same tour the famous live album was recorded. Blew my ass away! Greatest show ever. Also saw him at Cal Jam 2 in so. cal. he was just as good there.

  • Saw him and Montrose at the Ritz in NYC early eighties - Incredible!!!! couldn't hear for 2 days

  • seen him live in early 80's with Ronny Montreux (?).......what a guitar show...back when you could smoke weed right out in the open!!

  • great fuckin post ,thanks man

  • there used to be live footage of him playing the answer, from 1975 or 1979 i think, i can't find it anymore, does anyone know where i can get that song as well,

  • even the 80s guys have there logical heros, but i am so dissapointed in the new generation, who do the rap guys look up to, that stuff is just shit, m and m, give me a break, whatever happened to people who play real instruments, not a turntable

  • @vanhalen515084 I listened to this group thanks to my Uncle, when I was growing up. Your'e right,he IS a guitar god!!! I always loved this group, and people say to me,WHO? Very good, and underrated guitar player, like so much CANADIAN TALENT!!!

  • @fierospeedgirl i was working in edmonton, yrs ago, a friend gave me this and said that i will hear how he influenced zakk wylde. wow was he right, zakk is a super fan of him and being a zakk fan, i could hear frank all over his style,

  • @vanhalen515084 What makes you think a turntable is not an instrument? How do we define instrument. Shit a computer synthesizer is an instrument if you think about it. Music is subjective, some people like certain things others like other things...It's part of what makes life so interesting, is all the different views...The key is respect though, and remember its subjective. If you don't like it why spread negativity? Just carry on with what you like and everyone's happy then!

  • well folks, you are looking at a guitar god, he is just incredible, and super song this is, what a sound he gets from his solid state amps, he never liked tube amps, because they change sound throughout the night, as they warmed up, best sg sound ever, amazing player

  • for a while he was playing at the Cleveland House of Blues 1-2 times a year.... I never missed a show..Come back Frank we need you!!!!!!!

  • I MISS HIM WISH HE GOT MORE COVERAGE LOVE FRANKIE

  • I saw Frank at Cal Jam 2. This song is such a classic-A masterpiece!!!! VERY UNDERRATED.

  • i thank i was the only person on my block to own this record

  • I saw Frank at a club in N.Y. in 1984 and I could have sworn a jet landed on the roof. Amazing fuckin' show.

  • Did many bong hits back in the '70's, but that wasn't what made the music good. Frank's live album made me the guitarist I am today. Live version of King Bee where it did the Stormy Monday jazz riff up the neck made me lose my mind. Kept me playing. Watch it, learn it, know it, it will change you as a player.

  • I remenber back in the day, to hear a person play an instrument so intertaining with a diffrent sound to the ear. The sound of change was in the making...for all you music lovers out there "WHERE EVER YOU ARE."

  • best days what a time!

  • Saw him in Huntsville Alabama think he opened for Blue Oyster Cult Kicked Ass

  • I saw this show at the Capitol Centre in Largo Md....He opened for Nazereth....Mui Excellente!

  • @sgr202060 Ahhh!! I went to the Capitol Centre sooo many times. Lived in Lanham, Bowie, Crofton, etc. Saw Sabbath, Queen, Blackl and Blue (Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster Cult), ELO, Rod, and a few shitty bands too. Great sound on the floor, but echoey everywhere else. Oh, and Van Halen a few times.

  • saw this tour at Pocono Downs

  • 3:15 That's what I'm talking about!!!!!! You don't hear guitar players nowadays play like this!

  • Bromont Québec, Labour Day weekend, 1979.. We was there...Mach Shau!!

  • One big-time underated badass

  • first time I saw frank was on t.v. in 78 or 79 california jam...frank was just coming on and I had no idea who he was...the name mahogany rush sounded like a cover band for rush also the three piece band members made me leary but...when the lights went dim and they were anounced then cut into the answer...holy shit ...I never seen anyone play and sing with that intensity and the build up to the guitar solo except for frank...yea what a rush..bong hits any body?

  • Fank was beyond the universe. Jimbo too

  • I really admire a guy who can chew gum and sing and play at the same time!

  • Jim Ayoub is monster drumer and Paul Harwood a great basist ! What a band !!!

  • Yeah, Frank Marino was in the same building with Ted Nugent, Pat Travers, Robin Trower and Phil Keaggy, Loud and heavy, Crank it up!!

  • @bluu999 Maybe Pat, Robin & Phil! But Ted? Frank drug that fool down a dirt road. No comparison....

  • Saw Frank back in the late 70's at the Long Beach Arena, fricking blew my mind! One of the best.

  • i am so fortunate to have grown up near Montreal... to hear all the greatest Canadian artists!!!!!

  • A marino classic!!! Ive been a frank marino fan for 32 years, the guy just friggin slays me. AWESOME player. I saw him in toronto in 1987(i think)at the copa with ronnie montrose, superb show. Frank, your a canadian treasure.

  • This guy -- 30 years later -- can stand up and blow off just about anyone. He amazes

  • Thanks for posting.

  • I'm not sure if I'm correct but isn't that Mars Cowling on bass????/

  • Great band I was lucky enough to meet Paul Harwood the band bassist last Wednesday. He signed my 1977 Fender Jazz bass. He is a true gentleman.

  • OMG!!! TONE!! Frank is a beast!!

  • saw frank at cal jam 2 awesome guitarist

  • yea it relly piss me off i never here frank marino on the raido every time i call to reqwest a song they tell me they dont have it in the system thats relly fuked up becaus i used to lised to him back in 73 i dont care what any body seys hes a dam good gitar player and he should be reconiezed more at lest play him on the radio rock on frank .

  • Yeah isn't that something. I worshipped this guy in high school back in the early 80s and none of my friends had even heard of him. Pissed me off. He deserved so much more recognition. He's just amazing

  • Saw Him at a night club in the 70's with about 200 other people right up at the stage!!

  • frank marino saw them twice in nola @ the warehouse awesome venue. frank actuyally believes jimmi is reincarnated thru him watch his show and you will see it and feel it. he does red house on his knees with amp feeds then lights guitar, power trio at finest tight ass kick out jams

  • @freakflag56 Yes.. I read in Hit Parader (or Circus) that Frank states he took a really bad-ass hit of acid and it landed him in a mental hospital and when he came to/regained consciousness/reality.. that he could sing and play guitar like Jimi Hendrix.. after having never played the guitar before that experience. (Hmmm.. a true Jimi Hendrix experience?) :-)

  • may have seen this tour it's about the right time and everybody usually doesn't have a clue who he is; what a shame.

  • This is an amazing peace of music - it electrified me back in 79 when I first heard this song - and it still does after 30 years!!! The band plays really thite and Frank is flying over it with some awsome guitarlicks and a soulful voice! I could listen to it over and over!!!

  • I want this footage available on DVD so bad that my money is burning a hole in my pocket. Release it already!

  • Man, I used to love to go and see Mahogany Rush when they came through Austin back in the late 70's. Great times, awesome guitarist; Frank ruled, mind-blowing fast.

  • A mind-blower. The rythm alone is enough to satisfy. But throw the lead on and you've got some serious things goin' on here. Marino was committed. Not just to following Hendrix. He took it down his own trail, and the majority of his recordings and live shows was and is something to hold tight to.

  • old k-she classic!!

  • Interesting tune, huh? Backup vocals, 7th/min 9 chords...sure miss that kind of thing these days. For a time all I listened to was Frank, Uli Roth and Trower. Yeah, so they all copped a lot of stuff from Jimi; but they all took it somewhere different. Definitly worth a look...eventually, though, if you want to keep growing blues rock leads to jazz. Coltrane, Miles, Jaco, McLaughlin, Holdsworth. Jeff Beck knew this well.

  • Frank is so friggen awesome. nobody has that sound.

  • here is the beast of rock blues...canada's electric king of guitar

  • most underrated guitarist ever...fuckin' love this shit!

  • have this bootlegged on VHS from 20yrs ago approx. awesome!

  • Like Awesome!!!!

  • OMFG Such a Presentation of Super SWING!!!!!

  • Timeless track - didn't Frank claim he had an LSD overdose and when he woke up he could play like Jimi Hendrix?

  • that false rumour never helped his career

  • Saw him in 79 at COBO HALL Detroit MI. .....

  • Whoever that drummer is he kicks ass!

  • i like him because he's pretty much the only guitar hero on a sg. angus young and iommi are more meat-and-potato kind of players (great in their own way).

  • there's also Derek Trucks ...

  • This song is so fucking stoney. It reminds me of when me & my crazy friends went to Cal Jam II, those were the good ole' days. Frank is so talented to sing like he does while he's playing like he does. One in a million, Frank rocks!!!!

  • This was my first concert ever 1979. I remember this song well.

  • That solo was so cool,

Short and to the point !

  • Frank is the man. Saw him a few years ago and he's still playing his ass off!

  • I first heard this song in Meridian Ms in 1976 at the post exchange, bought the 8 track and played the shit out of it, loved the whole album Mahogany Rush IV

  • Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush Live is one of the best live albums ever produced. saw them at the World Music Festival, 4/79, still one of the best live performances I've ever seen!

  • Saw Frank @ Cal Jam 2, this crankin tune & King Bee were the best of the set....... Edwards AFB representing the Mojave Desert @ Ontario Motor Speedway, damn what a concert that was!

  • I saw this tour, in fact I remember he even wore that same white jumpsuit

  • I may have also saw this tour...or it may have been the year before. He opened for Blue Oyster Cult in Missoula Montana. First concert I ever saw....great memories!

  • great vid, thx! to bad the sound is a little wacky, but hey it's still one of my favourite Marino-tunes....his solo at 2.50 does it everytime ;)

  • this makes me wanna get an SG real bad

  • Life's short so just do it. You can get an SG special a few hundred cheaper than a standard and they sound great too. You can always upgrade the pickups later for a different sound

  • good idea. but how do i explain guitar number 10 to my girlfriend? :(

  • I saw this show in MONTREAL FORUM ...WOW !!!!!!! Frank Marino ..the best Hendrix cover in Canada ..uuhhuuuu

  • The thing that got me about this video (aside from the absolutley stellar vibe of ths song it self) was when I was reading the lyrics for the song and listening to him sing them, he just flows with it with oh I can't even think of the words but he sings what seems like complex syllables with easy never missing a beat...Now that's the definition of talent

  • Loved this the first time I heard it, still do 30 years on. Awesome. Thanks for posting.

  • I was always impressed by his drummer.

  • Yeah the drummer is impressive!

  • @PatinOmaha - Yeah, Jim Ayoub is a kickass drummer. Frank always plays with amazing drummers. I saw Frank live for the first time the very next year (1980) in Phoenix. I've seen him play live more than any other artist, and I used to work for a concert promoter in the 1980s. Of all my guitar heroes he will always be #1.

  • @christineglamazonFrank toured with a drummer named Tim Beiry. I probably spelled that wrong. Tim Beiry is a local dude, here in Maryland. He played with the late great Danny Gatton. I got to do some recording at Tim's place while he was on tour. What a badass...... Whew.

  • @christineglamazon: Back in '84, Frank played with a drummer from Long Island named Joe Franco. He was a great drummer but I don't think many people outside the N.Y. area know him. Ritchie Blackmore was in the audience that night and I thought Joe was going to be the next DP drummer. His drum solo that night was one of the best I've ever seen.

  • @tripfunkmonster

I saw Frank around 1983 in New York City at i believe was the old Ritz, this being my first time seeing Frank i was truly mesmerized by his power, speed, imagination on guitar....i wish he would get the notoriety he deserves, yet they throw money at rappers, go figure.

If anyone can confirm Mahogany Rush at the Old Ritz in New York City around 1983, please do !

  • @Bluzisreal: I didn't see Magogany Rush at the old Ritz - but I remember a few other shows there. It was great (11th St.). I saw the Michael Schenker Group there in Spring of '84, it was a great show. (I also saw them at the "new" Ritz in '90)

Have you seen Frank recently? Do you still live around the N.Y. area? He played B.B. King's in Times Sq. last November & they've told me he'll be coming back. He's been playing Vegas for about the past two months. I wished he'd extend his tour back here.

  • Bell bottoms, bong hits, frisbees...thirty years later, this song still gives me a rush. Frank Marino....the best guitarist nobody has heard of...amazing!!!!

  • Extremly underrated. Frank rocks!!!

  • awsome song FRANK ROCKS!

  • Most unrecognized rockers ever. Awesome

  • True, frank marino is amazing in concert,i saw them live 5,6 times,i even met him once and shook his hand, truly amazing..

  • Awesome. Cool. Rockin'. Trippy.

  • This was/is fantastic! Man, I miss those days - this live version choked me up - awesome! FM has been hugely over-looked by Rock & Roll "establishment" This IS Rock & Roll! Thanks for posting this - would love to see/hear this on DVD! Brings back great memories... ;-)

  • BEST OF THE BEST,THIS REAL ONE!

  • My next on my "To do List"

    Paul's on Bass....

  • awesome !!! Nobody reaches level of Frank!! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!

  • I wish this piece of footage were released on DVD. I love all the footage from this
