So long as both countries trust, but verify, things should improve for both Russia and the United States. Russia is a huge country and there are many things that America can do to help enhance Russia's border/security needs through lessons learned on the Mexican border. Russia may not want to follow America's example in controlling their borders though because that war was lost.
The threat from Iran currently sits at zero, but by 2018 that could change. In a perfect world Iran would commit to on site inspections and the planned ABM deployment would be aborted. As it now stands the deployment of ABM's in Poland would undermine Russia's nuclear deterrent and may require counter measures that are not in the interest of either Russia or the NATO allies.

Obama wants to work with Russia for the two countries common defence. That is a very astute move on Obama's part. So long as both countries trust, but verify, things should improve for both Russia and the United States. Russia is a huge country and there are many things that America can do to help enhance Russia's border/security needs through lessons learned on the Mexican border. Russia may not want to follow America's example in controlling their borders though because that war was lost.

The threat from Iran currently sits at zero, but by 2018 that could change. In a perfect world Iran would commit to on site inspections and the planned ABM deployment would be aborted. As it now stands the deployment of ABM's in Poland would undermine Russia's nuclear deterrent and may require counter measures that are not in the interest of either Russia or the NATO allies.
This is a situation that requires considerable soul searching and objective thinking.

Russia has enough offensive and defensive missiles to counter any defense and enough to destroy the world. Russia knows that the missile defense is not a threat and is being two-faced since Putin was fine with sea bases SM-3s. Russia is also envious it lost sphere of influence in places such as Poland. Its more about this than a measly missile defense.

Russia needs no 'STATEMENTS'. US words don't mean anything. At the end of the cold war USSR was promised that NATO won't expand even into East Germany. As soon as Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact broke up NATO not only didn't disband but expanded eastward all the way to Russia's borders and built up many new military bases.
