@Jarathe I disagree. I like how it goes from a heavy orchestral scifi tune into a pleasant song about being stranded far away from anything remotely civilized. It's like the show itself, it plays with both high concept space opera and just plain silliness by way of its esoteric cast.

@mamasmellons in one of the books, it explains that earth has been designated as "garbage world" by all the other planets, so one way or another it left our solar system. According to the book, the blue planet in the episode "White Hole" is actually Earth. Lister crash landed there and got to work cleaning things up with the help of roaches. It took something like 30 years for the crew to rescue him, whereupon Holly hooked Dave up with the time hole in "Backwards" and gave him those years back.
