Perfect way to display how to do this. I was also thinking to make some videos on this but as these has been already done I am now thinking to make some advance training tutorial.
Thank you Robert, for the tutorial. I just got hired by a company that uses SharePoint and I have no idea how to use it, AND I work remotely so don't have anyone to really show me. Can you recommend some supplemental websites or tutorials? Thank you!
Thank you! This video as great. I didn't know about the calendar overlay. I wasn't able to make changes to the calendar through outlook, but I'll try it again with different permissions.
This is a very helpful video, however a question. The three options in connecting SharePoint to outlook all are about making changes to the SharePoint side, and how that pushes over to the Outlook side... what about making changes to the documents in the outlook folder or the outlook calendar- would those changes push back to the SharePoint side?
This is great. Thanks. Question - Can I have a sent mail (from my outlook account) be placed in the Sharepoint Shared Documents folder in Outlook to be published on my sharepoint site?
Yes. You can enable SharePoint document libraries to be email aware. That means they have an email address which when sent to will store both the message and the attachment in the document library.
I can't get the custom calender in SharePoint work with Outlook. All appointments are not visible. Is there a solution for getting the appointments visible in outlook with a custom calender?
@spyddar: No, I created a work around by using the content type calendar allready available in Sharepoint and edited this one, by adding additional columns. You can also inherit the content type calendar into your own content type.

You install SharePoint on a Windows Server. You open the SharePoint site on that server with IE. You select the calendar you wish to sync and select Actions from menu and the Connect to Outlook option that appears there.
If you have Outlook 2007 and add and event to Outlook that is linked to Sharepoint the event will appear in Sharepoint. This is not possible in Outlook 2003 which can only read from Sharepoint but not write back.
Check your permissions on Sharepoint because Outlook 2007 supports 2 way sync provided you have the rights. Can you add an event to Sharepoint that then appears in Outlook?

While I was aware of the overlay, I was not aware about the drag & drop feature.
Thank you for the video :-)

If you are using Outlook 2007 then changes are pushed back, if you are using anything prior to Outlook 2007 then no changes get pushed back.
Thanks

Do you have Outlook 2007 with the latest Service Packs? Not sure what you exactly mean by custom calendars either.

did you find an answer to this question? I'm having the same issue.

This is great, but is there a way of adding an event from Outlook and making it appear on Sharepoint?

I have outlook 2007, but when I try to create an event it says that it is read only =(

Check your permissions on Sharepoint because Outlook 2007 supports 2 way sync provided you have the rights. Can you add an event to Sharepoint that then appears in Outlook?
saturnalliance 3 years ago
Yeah, it works from sharepoint to Outlook, but not the other way (could it be becasuse its Sharepoint 2003?)
ricardoaceved0 3 years ago
I'd say so. I know it works with Sharepoint 2007 (Sharepoint v3) but believe it won't work with anything prior.
