I am surprised by the negative nature of many of these comments. Personally I find Eleanor's performance to be full of emotion and marked by her usual musical excellence. I can concede that her vocal is weaker than her usually stunning voice, but from her appearance I suspect she had a cold when this was filmed. Furthermore, her fantastic violin added something special. Of course, this is only my opinion, but I wish others would express their views without such crass and offensive language.
A bit of an imitation, but, but, if you wanted to show aliens an example of how beautiful the human voice is Ms McAvoy around 3:29 on the track would be on the shortlist. Paul Brady, well... 'Arthur McBride', 'nothing but the same old story', 'Lakes of Ponchatrain' - I rest my case.
its a good version of fairytale of new york but would prefer the orginal with shane mcgowan and the pogues feat kirsty mccoll because it is all time christmas classic and it makes me cry everytime listening to it.
I never thought anyone but the Pogues could do justice to this song, but I was wrong. This is great!!!! Stellar performances by Paul Brady, Phil Coulter, and especially Eleanor McEvoy.
How can you, obviously capable of an appreciation for the Bonzo Dog Band, be so, so wrong? This is a treat indeed, especially with Eleanor so brilliant (not to mention looking as hot as can be!)
@iluvirishmusic@iluvirishmusic I presume those commenters think they're paying a compliment to Shane MacGowan by insulting anyone with the gall to cover such an Irish legend. Obviously they don't know who Brady, McEvoy nor Coulter are, and they also don't realize that MacGowan would probably think that they are idiots.
As for me, I thought it was fantastic. Paul Brady was a bit over reserved in the first call-and-response, but immediately following, he especially was spot-on.
Well it's a song, it's not about how she looks (although yes, she does look fantastic!) Lights off, close your eyes and listen again, it's not good. They shouldn't have attempted this.
I can not understand how any of you can find fault with this performance. It's an intense, emotional rendition of "Fairytale of New York" Eleanor, Paul, and Phil all put on outstanding performances! And Eleanor looks amazing.
Aw - I think it's great. I never ever thought I would say this but I think it's better than the original. I like the fact that they didn't just copy it.
While I like all these artists individually, they have actually murdered this song. Eleanor is bearing expressions that would lead me to think that singing the song is painful to her. Her playing is flawless however, but listen girl, just enjoy it!
Paul Brady, want's to do his own thing and not just copy the song. Dude, just copy it!
Phil Coulter, probably the best of this bunch does a fine job on the piano.
Collectively, this is a very poor rendition of a very fine song.
they just killed me favourite christmas song..

This kind of desastrous cover should be prohibited. Shane MacGowan wrote a masterpiece, these ""singers"" just do a piece of shit with it.

Just love it!!! Paul Brady with Eleanor Mc Evoy and Phil Coulter do a great job on the Pogues Fairytale of New York. Thanks for posting!

Why dont they just leave this song as it is. The Pogues are the only ones who can do it justice. This is dross. Phil Coulter is the only legend here.

All of these negative responses confuse me. This is a great performance by three of Ireland's greatest musicians.
