I gotta get back up there again next year. Last time I tried to go, my car broke down in the U.P., and had to have the timing belt replaced so I was unable to go to the island. Instead, I was stranded in Newberry....there's nothing to do in Newberry.

@msballaholic21 If you want to be VERY romantic stay at the Grand Hotel...But I warn you it's verrryyyyy expensive. My family stays at a cozy bread and breakfast which is affordable. I also reccomend you go on the horse carriage tour which takes you up to the middle of the island and there's a butterfly house there.

College students often go to work there for the summer, either at the hotel or the snack bar by the golf course across the street. I did. But get a good friend to go, too, because you'll get homesick otherwise.

Beware of the snack bar when a fraternity comes in. They tip in pennies!

oh no. the only cost is the ferry ride over which isn't too expensive. and if you want to stay over night there are many bed & breakfasts you can stay at for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the info. I really want to see this hotel and this island, but the reason this piqued my curiosity is because of the book Bid Time Return, which actually took place at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego California. That hotel I REALLY want to see before I die but I know is very expensive.

I think I didn't clarify, I want to stay in the Grand Hotel, I assumed it was the only hotel on the island and that the island was tiny. I wonder if it is very expensive to stay in the Grand Hotel?

@Rushthatspeaks yeaaa it's pretty expensive to stay at the grand.. i believe its a 400+ per night or something? i don't really know.. i've never stayed there myself.

I was just there!!!!! I love that place!!!! It's the most gorgeous place on earth!!!!!! Michigan is such a pretty state!!!! I wish I live on Mackinac Island....but the houses there are like a million dollars...those are the cheap ones lol. I stayed at the Island House Hotel and I had a couple haunted expirences of my own lol, it was built in 1852!!!!!!

My friend's family actually owns a lot of the horses on the island, he gets the VIP treatment on that island, he lives the life while he is there.

If anyone reading this is old enough to drink and plans to go to Mackinac island, you need to go to the Pink Pony and watch Myke Ryce(i think i spelled that right) preform.

It really is. My cousin got married at a hotel on the far end of the island(when you get off the ferries it would be on the far right of the island). She had a party at the top of the grand hotel(the sun set right in between the pillars of mackinac bridge) and it was all around a great service.

I live in the U.P. so i'm not used to the high life like that, i could not for the life of me get used to people asking if i wanted them to go to the bar and get me a new drink, so weird XD

Mackinac. my favorite place in the world. as said in the Above Mackinac book: Only 8 miles in circumference, Mackinac Island is filled with great natural beauty, unparallelled history and every imaginable flavor of fudge!\

By the way, it's not called Zelda, it's the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. there've been lots of other Zelda games.

i've been to mackinac island 3 times! in the way there, my dad was driving (scary) and he kept saying he saw the mackinac bridge but it wasnt it. we go on the horse back riding and i fell off my horse into a pile of mud!! and he kicked my leg!! then he started chasing hte horse way ahead of me!! i was screaming!! it was really scary!!! and the horse in front of me almost pooped on me!!! it ended up pooping on my horses face!!

I love this video. Ive worked on the island for the past five years. Im a drey driver for mackinac island service company/ carraige tours. you actually have a clip of a good buddy of mine driving a drey with a fridge. my dad works on star line

This is a great video that brings back many fond memories. I have been to the Island many times and I never get tired of it. Last summer, my sister and I rented a horse and buggy and drove a very nice scenic route. This Island is one of Michigans crowning glories, so keep up the good work of memorializing Mackinac Island through your videos.
