Because some styles of comic art from the early 20th Century didn't bother drawing pupils. Eric Powell was probably paying homage to the comic artists from this era

Tell me about it. The fact that the comic is so unconventional yet clearly derives inspiration from some very old and well established sources ranging from EC Comics to Popeye the Sailor is what makes it so much fun

Frankie has got his eyes like that cause he was drawn that way in the comic-book. Dunno why Eric Powell decided to do him like this, but doing Frankie with proper eyes would simply get the character to far away from the comic. Look the goon up on google or somewhere else, then you´ll definitely understand why Frankie got his all-white eyes....

I love how this looks. In fact, I think that this movie is going to start a trend of comic-based films being done with computer animation. If it does well, that is. I'm certainly going to head to the theater to see it.

I hate to say it but I would've preferred a live action movie myself. I don't know, I just don't like the way CGI figures move. Woulda loved to see what Mickey Rourke wou'd've done with the title role back around the time he did 'Sin City'
