I'm not sure I understand how a Jewish man can present the experience of black women and their hair... Additionally - what new information have you presented that Chris Rock didn't in 'Black Hair?'
@primaner51 hahahahah what?! i'm not putting myself down to make others feel better? i did not say there's something wrong with natural hair, where the hell did you get that from? oh, you're so ignorant. read it one more time, and don't put the words in a wrong direction. i said i've always wanted a hair like most african americans have - so are you really that ignorant that you think that kind of hair is so ugly, that i didn't mean what i said? you f' idiot, YOU need to shut up.
Black women didn't just wake up and develop a self hatred for their hair. This was a message black women have been subjected to for generations. I'm not saying we don't have some blame, but you can't seriously watch this documentary and understand the messages being marketed to the black community and say this is something black women have created internally.
This is pretty much propaganda, a poorly explored one-sided look at what is otherwise a very interesting, attention worthy phenomenon. How about a break from vilifying Koreans and a little insight into the other side? This is "documentary" filmmaking at its worst.
I'm a white girl from norway, and i have natural straight hair, and it's SO extremely boring... And my god, i've always wanted a hair like most african american women have. I think it's so beautiful!
If blacks really want to take back their business, they need to do something that Asians are rare at... good social skills & great customer services. When a customer walk in your store. Greet them & ask them "How may I help you?" Give tips & try to meet the needs of what customers are looking. I go one particular black owned store (much further than an Asian store) because of the great service & the owner really cares. She helped me grow more hair & longer. That's what will win... good service.
You are absolutely right! I think when businesses feel like they are at the top, they don't need to practice the basics like great customer service, education etc.! Thank you
I'm not saying that I like the idea of the Koreans taking control of the black hair market. But I do think that if a business is facing competition they just need to work a little harder.
Similar to instance in which a new cafe opens up across the street from an old one. You just have to work a harder, have some new business pitches, discounts, new items, etc.
Just saying people are taking over isn't going to solve anything. They saw the business opportunity and now they're utilizing it :x
@RubberDuckyVixen I agree. I go to the black owned stores for the better service. The owners are nicer & more helpful than the Asian stores. I dye my hair white/ silver, so my hair does thin out. One black owned store introduced Protectiv. I wasn't too sure about the product so I researched reviews & tried it. My hair has thicken & grown since using that brand. That store is my main hair place. I wouldn't get that service from Asian owners. Harder work & service makes customers & sellers happy.
I'm African American and I don't really see a problem with the hair industry. People can do what ever they want with their hair, who as anyone else to judge them for it.
As far as the beauty supply stores it's all about climbing up in business industry. If someone else is able to increase their supply and demand faster than you why complain. They're catering to the peoples wants and needs.
Just more proof that black people don't understand and don't even care about important issues as economics, finance, money and power. This is really bad.
Black people need to support black businesses after all they are the one in control of the their money. In Britain it is the Asians from India that control the majority of the black hair business.
interesting and essential movie...I'm a white female and I never understood why black women wear weaves or all that fake shit...that is such a fucking turnoff and bad for your hair...also I dont get what Koreans know or care about "black" hair?
Thanks for posting. I do have one tiny bone to pick, though. Black folks buy 70% of hair extensions and whites purchase 90% of boob jobs, butt jobs, sun screen, and tanning accessories. They also make up 99% of child pornographers. The only problem I have with Black folks buyin up all that stuff is we're making someone else RICH. Why don't we talk about why Blacks and Natives make up 80% of the dialysis patients. Come to think of it, there may be some sort of connection.
@AfreensHair There are a lot of connections... down to why everyone deep down really hate themselves. Watch Zeitgeist and Zeitgeist Moving Forward. Those docs really go into at how mess up our cultures' & societys' mentalities are and how brainwashed some people are. Anyways thank you for pointing out the idea that there is some connection to it all.
Look y'all business is business alright people get rolled over all the fucking time some people loose everything and end up on the street. That's life. White people have beaten into your heads that you and your features are not wanted and yall have listened. the koreans are just trying to make money thats what they are about getting to the top and they really dont care who gets rolled over but neither did rockefeller j.p morgan or donald trump and thats the way of this fucked up world.
soon theyre gonna have to make a new documentary considering that the majority of black women would soon know that they can grow their own hair long whether relaxed or natural. Its spreading so fast their are so many black girls in my high school rocking afro's, including me. Soon Indian women wont have to worry about someone trying to steal their hair anymore. Hopefully this new natural hair industry will start having some commercials to get the word spreading faster.
LOL they wont do that because that will cause them to loose money. aron ranen's black hair documentary he is trying to help us. WAKE us up.. Educate us as well as SHIMA GIRL but people just criticize. Black women criticize Shima Girl products at least she is a Black woman trying to help us achieve our hair goals independent..
this is pretty stupid, black people shouldnt blame koreans. Black people have internalized hatred for their own black hair. They need to learn to love themselves and stop trying to have "good hair". Black hair, nappy, corse what have you IS good hair.
this ispretty stupid, black people shouldnt blame koreans. Black people have internalized hatred for their own black hair. They need to learn to love themselves and stop trying to have "good hair". Black hair, nappy, corse what have you IS good hair.
@yearnin4aburnin That's what I'm sayin'! And pretty stupid is an understatement. If black people didn't hate their hair so much and use excuses like "it's too hard to manage" then their money won't be disappearing like it is. You've gotta be kidding me if you think the Asians are to blame. They're not forcing black women to hate the texture of their hair. Asians want to dominate and that's what they will do as long as black people keep allowing them to. But what does race even matter? Smh people
HOLD ON!!!!! WHY ARE WE ALLOWING THE "KOREANS" OR WHOEVER THEYY ARE 2 RULE OUR HAIR PRODUCTS?!?!? UGHHHHH STUFF LIKE THIS MAKES ME VERY VERY ANGRY!! C'MON BLACK PPL WE NEED 2 STAND UP 4 OURSELVES!! WHAT DO ASIAN PPL KNOW ABOUT OUR HAIR ANIWAYY? NOTHIN! U HEARD THEM...black ppl hair very very good business..DF? OMG OMG IM TIRED OF BEING MADE A MOCK OF!!! THIS MAKES ME CRY HOW CAN WE ACT SO STUPID TO LET THIS HAPPEN...PPL HAV ALWAYS STEPPED ON US...LETS TAKE BAK WHAT WE HAV PRIDE IN, OUR HAIR !
Omg, Chris Rock glanced at this informative documentary and made a shitty one that barely covered this issue years later! Too worried about laying out hit-n-miss jokes by his team of writers *rolls eyes*
With that kind of power & control they can get rid of you (Black Women) any time they feel like it, or cause you to have some deadly disease like what was done to the Indians in early America with Small pocks in their blankets. You SISTERS better take back your power and you better do it NOW!
With the kind of power & control that the Koreans have over the Black Woman's hair, they can get rid of them (the Black Woman) any time their ready. You ladies better wake up and wonder why most of all of you that wear weave and use their sub-standard products are going or are bald already.
I'm a Black consumer & shop at a Korean shop. I watched all of the documentaries & I DO NOT think these documentaries are encouraging people to hate Asians. To intentionally block out Black storeowners and manufacturers is unconscionable and unforgiveable. There are NO STORE RETURNS even if something's wrong w/ the product. They won't get another dollar of mine! I applaud Aron Ranen's & I hope BOBSA is very successful & I support them & will encourage my friends to do the same.
the answer is simple. organize for a NATIONWIDE BOYCOT. black women MUST get comfy with their hair and DON'T PURCHASE the products for at least 2 years!
We live in a free market society...the Koreans have every right to open profitable businesses as they see fit. If there aren't many Black owned beauty supply stores it's your own fault...not the Koreans. Stop bitching and open up a store!
All this wont even matter in a couple of years. Everyone is gonna be too broke to even buy food, yet alone hair and hair supplies. This is the last thing people need to be worried about
She is not F'n lying. My uncle had 3 beauty supply stores back in the early 80's. A Korean guy who sharted out buying from my uncle a few cases here and there, they later became good friends. My uncle turned him on to the whole business aspect and I'd say about 7-8 yrs later my uncle was now buying from this guy. One learn & they teach the others, put their money together and buy in bulk. Ol'Mr
Lee he has several now and a very large one in Atlanta.
LOL Even the Asian business owner said the knock-off (monopoly-pushed) product was bad quality of the black owned-product that found difficulty getting placed (black) in their stores. Well, at least he was honest enough to tell the truth.
Black American who are pursuing the healthy hair or natural hair regimen, will no longer have a need to shop at Korean-owned business because their products are inferior and dangerous. This "natural" and "organic" movement will NOT return money exclusively to the black American community---but the Americans, Indians, Caribbeian, and Africans will benefits. Many of these natural hair / organic products are in Target, Walmart, Walgreens, Sallys, GNC, VitaminShoppe, Indian, Carib & African shops.
i find this amusing...im must be an oddity...my hair care cost about 20.00 a month. i dont use chemicals or heat. but if the customer is always right, and they dont stand up and say "you wrong for that" and take their money else where, then they are the blame for their own downfall.
Why are asians so annoying. Coming over here, working hard for less. My parents worked hard to come to this country from China. I don't want some low paying chinese immigrant to take my job away. If it was an american taking my job away- that's okay because they probably deserved it with hard work and all. But a new chinese immigrant taking jobs? boy that just makes me angry!
@fannibal It's not the hard work. It's when you have two governments that collude to make a monopoly where there isn't an even distribution. When Microsoft did this, they got sued. The U.S. & the Korean government even shut China out of wig exports. But, Koreans don't make money off of me---unless they sell natural, organic, and products that work with my hair, and their beauty supply stores don't supply that. Better products are being created, but it's not just by blacks, but indians etc.
I'm black too, african actually but black folks piss me off. Why is it when another race does something they do and they are smarter about it they get mad and say "they stealing from us, we gotta take back whats ours." i bet you those indians and other people you get your human hair from aren't complaining so SHUT THE F*CK UP.quit complaining and do something about it.if a korean is making money off your hair products, open a damn store. if white ppl win a step show, create better steps
@cbuz06 When the U.S. government is involved in creating system to help others take control of a market, it is a form of stealing----But, I hate self-hatred blacks have to feel they need to purchase these dangerous, petrolatum-mineral-oil-filled-dangerous-products from these shops. I'm so glad the healthy hair movement is growing, with natural and organic products. Even Target is supplying products like Kinky Curly--which are healthy, work with natural hair and are black-owned.
Its not the Koreans fault for this problem its the government they set it up with Koreans. Koreans are the only ppl who can sell hair. The United State government set this up. They out sources black hair long time ago.
@beequeen7 government had nothing to do with koreans dominating "bbs industry". that's just a weak "conspiracy theory". The truth is the koreans have been servicing the black community for decades. whether its grocery/liquor stores, urban clothes, shoes, or gold. koreans are the ones that take the risk of opening stores in the "hood" and thats why they dominate those industries. they know that "big retail" isn't gonna come in and there aren't enough black business owners to serve da hood
wow this really caught my attention. an african american family had the nerve to open up a pizzeria near my house IN A PREDOMINANTLY WHITE NEIGHBORHOOD. these people are just coming into our communities to exploit us. i'm gonna have the whole community boycott them!
Who was Ike Turner (4:54) buying hair for, himself or Tina? Anyhow, this documentary is an eye opener and I hope we practice the information that is given to us.
02:29 - obviously that one speaking is dumb.. That's how money works.. It's fair because you paid for the services, it's a bad thing if they'll give it free..
Koreans did do anything WRONG. nothing... its business ppl. I'm black...and if Spanish ppl have a lipstick they liked to use... i would go into the business. it has nothing to do with race just money.
Why is anyone surprised? Getting past race, the US used to dominate the manufacture of TVs, textiles, consumer electronics, cameras, automobiles, etc., etc. etc. Now all of these things are domiated by various Asians. Did you know that Asian Indians dominate the hotel/motel industry in the US? Why should hair care be a surprise?
i 100% AGgree.. i think we should STOP.. they are making millions off us. they make fun of us they are damaging our follicles causing hair to stop growing. it is hair follicle genocide
I understand why AAs get upset watching this (as we should) but I disagree that the key motivation is racism. The main drive is CAPITALISM. America is founded on it. Money talks and the more you amass the more power you have. The best way to deal with it is to make dents the bottom lines of beauty supply stores with these practices. Talk without action only gets drowned out by the cha-ching of the register.
Hi Aron, it's great to see that people are paying attention to the information in your documentary. I hope that it incites more than just indignation, but also inspiration. Many of us have noticed this growing problem over the years, and it's not just in the haircare industry. Black business in general needs the support of our community. It's not good enough to say, "Color doesn't matter" or "I just buy whatever is cheapest". Communities only thrive when the members support one another!
OMG I'VE SEEN GOOD HAIR AND IT SEEMS LIKE CHRIS ROCK RIPED OFF YOUR DOCUMENTARY! WOW. WHEN DID YOU MAKE THIS. IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS POSTED IN 2006 SO IT SEEMS LIKE YOU MADE YOUR DOCUMENTARY FIRST.NOT A GOOD LOOK CHRIS ROCK SMDH
That's exactly why I don't go to beauty supply stores here in Memphis. I will pay more money and go to Target or Sally b/c those Koreans watch us like a hawk and then have the NERVE to hire a black person in there with a jacked up attitude. I guess they hire 1 black so it can look like they are not racist, but I'm hip to them. If we could stop hating on one another, we can rally together to get them OUT OF HERE!
It's understandable to be upset that a business, which caters to our people, is being run by another ethnic group, but this documentary is wrong in making this a fight against Koreans. Don't scapegoat Koreans just because they're doing business. Last time I checked, we lived in a capitalist society. It's just like the American auto industry. If you don't like the competition, then do something about it instead of whining!
Sorry but serves us right. If we spent a fraction of our consumer spending habits on intangibles such as a business education we could have reversed the trend. If we are too busy trying to live up to a false standard of beauty, we have no incentive in creating market strategy for our products and control of our products.
@stillcracking what I dont understand is IF YOU DONT LIKE BLACK PEOPLE WHY DONT YOU TROLLS FUCK OFF FROM OUR VIDEO SITES? BECAUSE YOU NEED OUR ENERGY TO LIVE YOU GODAMN PARASITES!!!!!!!! YOU NEED OUR CULTURE,OUR MUSIC OUR FASHION OUR GOLD OUR FOOD, OUR GODS, OUR GENETIC MATERIAL JUST TO SURVIVE ON THIS THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN. FUCK OFF WHITEY AND GO AND INVENT SOME SHIT OF YOUR OWN TO JUSTIFY YOUR UNFOUNDED WHITE SUPREMACIST FANTASIES!!!!!!!!!
@Meriamen actually everything that you use and see around yourself nowadays was invented by white men so technically we don't need you ,you need us :) , and you gotta stop "PLAYA HATING" on Koreans for "MAKIN DAT DOUGH ,STRAIGHT HUSSLIN NIGGA" :) hows that ?
Black History Month paid off for the Koreans!!! They obviously learned that America's first female millionaire got her bucks from black hair care products and black hair didn't go out with the Civil Rights Movement or the assassination of Dr. King. Somebody learned something.
The last statement is the most key statement she made. "we took them as being a friend" This is what always happens. Black are naturally good natured and trusting. I don't believe that the Koreans had it in mind to be "a friend and to be good natured and get along in the same industry. We see friendships, they see $ and we get burned and have yet made another race richer than rich instead of our own. I am glad that I engage in natural haircare and go to whole foods for my products.
we need more blk hair products coming from blk people.aslong as you go to lil kiko and hyato the more you`ll just screw blk business`s that do exist over..i wonder how many people will wake up and go natural or make their own products and say fuck KOREA all together.but i doubt that will happen anytime soon
i believe that Chris Rock stole it because he figured he could make money. he should have just worked with this guy but in reality C.R is not trying to help the black community. Many whites watched the film and made fun of us
you can't be mad at the koreans or any one who's apart of the african american hair products industry, its just good business and good money but it is kinda bogus to their trying to cut african american people of african american hair product distributors out of the business altogether
There shouldn't be so much blame put on Koreans. The majority of them are probably immigrants and seeing that Black spend soo much money on hair && products, ANYONE WOULD WANT A PIECE OF THE PIE ! && its not only there fault. All those products they've shown aren't EVEN HEALTHY FOR BLACK PPL'S HAIR. they all have PETROLUEM && MINERAL OIL. so yu can;t just blame Koreans for being smart buisnessman. WE CAN BLAME ourselves for being ignorant of the fact that we dnt UNDERSTAND our hair
@JohhnieBoy09 True. If we loved our natural hair more or even supported one another in business more maybe things would be different. But you can blame them when they work together to run any "black" owned beauty supply stores out of business. With ridiculously low prices when they get the same products for pennies and won't sell to "blacks" for the same price. How are "we" supposed to keep up?
@JohhnieBoy09 You definately have a point, but all things considered, what's really messed up is that you have the Korean people who supply the hair products and who only sell to Korean shopkeepers in order to keep the money among their own people. Now THAT'S BLATANT RACISM!! That should be outlawed and the fact that it's allowed in the 21st Century is unfathomably disgraceful. The United States is worried about keeping justice across the world; they should take care of what's at home first.
@ThunderJuice your correct, but the goverment is down with the koreans in keeping us at the bottom of the food chain.Wake up Black folks AMERICA STILL HATES YOU! THEY ONLY LIKE YOU IF YOU SOME SORT OF DANCING MONKEY.
@JohhnieBoy09 actually our goverment along with the sneaky koreans have blacked balled us out of the hair care market. Not just with hair extensions but the whole thing from haircare products such as shampoos conditioners, perms etc.this was a market created by blks but the goverment and koreans block us from establishing some of our own business.I would suggest blks get back to basics and only buy from eachother that's how we will gain back our enterprise.
@wishywashygirl19 if it were a monopoly, korean stores would be the only place you could get these products and they would be way overpriced. koreans have brought so much competition (from each other) that prices are always less expensive at the korean stores, so much so, Black bbs owners can't compete.
@JohhnieBoy09 they publish their product catalogs now in korean so no americans can participate. they hate us and don't need to get our dollars anymore to put their racist kids through college while blacks get treated like crap in this hell hole of a racist country.
@JohhnieBoy09 No the U.S. government colluded with the Korean government to put a monopoly of wig exports---even shutting out places like China. I tell you, there are systems here that help immigrant communities get ahead.
Black folks, talk about "the game" all the time, meanwhile, the Chinese and Koreans are running game on us. We just throw our money at them. It's like we tell them "please take our money. We don't deserve to have it. We'd rather put our money on our heads than use it to make our lives easier or improve ourselves."
You guys are outwitted and outsmarted all the time, everywhere. You think you people ever had a chance against Koreans? They already have your market by the throat. They are just too intelligent, you Africans with your ugly Afro hair should stop crying and keep filling Korean pockets by buying Korean hair wigs and Korean hair products.
I just can not believe this situation is totally blamed on the Koreans! It is not their fault that they saw a place in the market and took a chance on it. They, like everyone who is a business will promote their products.
Black people are blaming people for taking their money away, when they are giving away.
Quit crying. At least this has finally been realized and hopefully there will be positive changes where the blacks take the initiative to do as the Koreans have done and quit blaming.
True words, I admire an respect the koreans buisness mind, but u forget a thing some of the manufacturers only sell to other koreans. That's a little wrong aint it ?
Suggestion from a brother, why don't you do what white people do, go an solicit law makers. Appear on television, in the end it is just business but research and find avenues. Never ever give up.
Ok there are so many things left unsaid in this video. For one, I am shocked that some of you are saying that Koreans and everyone else is racist but YET you guys are leaving racists comments against Koreans? How does that work? Second of all, the majority of Blacks are not aware of proper hair care. Why aren't blacks making products for us black folks? So again this questions need an answer. And, customer service plus good products is key. Its not just up to race, let's get it together.
I feel sick to my stomach watching this. Why dont black people support each other instead of lining the pockets of people who know absolutely NOTHING about our hair.
99% of the people bitching about Korean-owned beauty supply stores don't think twice about spending their money at white-owned grocery stores, malls, electronic stores, etc.
If you think it's important to keep the money within the black community, be consistent about it. Black people spend money on plenty of things besides hair.
Korans cannot stand black folks, yet black people love stuffing there pockets with money. Some of these ghetto tricks can't even afford to put food on their tables yet they are buying weaves and relaxers.
My father employed blacks in our store and treated all customers equally. Yet our store was the only store on our block that was constantly getting broken in to. Customers would say racial slurs to my parents on a daily basis. At school, the black kids would beat me tell me to go back where I came from and how they were gonna burn down my parents store.
This is hate. No matter how much you sugarcoat it, it is.
Videos like this one makes me wish that we were all color-blind. Why are the people in this video so adamant about buying from only African-Americans?
Im Korean and my family owned a black beauty supply store also. I knew the community hated us because we werent black, but what could we do? We lived in that community also and my parents had to put food on the table.
This documentary is unbalanced, and biased. From the start it blames Korean businesses for taking over a sector of the black community. Small minded individuals may not like it, but the higher question needs to be answered: why don't black people support black owned businesses? because capitalism has no ethics. Easy to blame the business minded who just sell people a product to those who spend, it's the distribution of wealth among the poor that is a pressing question. How you spend your money?
I remember how naive it used to be that black people must support black owned enterprises, when anything but has taken place. Walk by 125ST and there's rampart bootlegging, and making money off dead people like Michael Jackson. It's about survival, and I don't think black people in general give a fuck about the morals associated with a few minds, it's take what's mine and spend it on what makes you happy, like jewelry and hair. It's a mentality that ain't got shit to do with race.
I havent for the last 14 years and try as much as possible to get Blacks to support Black owned business or at least businesses that respect the Black community
This film was wrong from its conception, not because it was questioning why Koreans were in the black hair care market, but due to the fact that the filmmaker, Aron Ranen, started off with his own prejudices about Koreans owning black hair care stores. He saw a lot of Koreans owning these stores and ASSUMED that something had to be wrong.
We could put Koreans out of business and bankrupt them all if we had enough common sense and self esteem to wear our hair naturally - even for a period of time, say one year. I think we should all go natural for a year and then we will be treated better when we inevitably walk back into the B & B stores that haven't gone under to by our fake hair again.
it's Blacks that pay Korean rents, buy Korean mortgages, put Korean kids through college while continuing to get their hair and nails done by Koreans. Us being that stupid does not justify them being that selfish & greedy. they DO corner the market and USE Blacks to promote Korean products, It is easier for a Korean to get a business loan than a Black person; they come here with no credit hx, but with backers w/ millions of dollars amassed from poor black neighborhoods.
How do you know it's easier for them to get bank loans? Do you really think it's easy for an immigrant with no credit history in the U.S. to get a bank loan? A lot of Koreans get loans from their families/friends or have worked several years to save up for a business. Just because people do well does not mean they got there unfairly. Anybody, ANYBODY, who wants to make money can open a business.
If you don't like Korean businesses, don't shop there. Plain and simple.
i would really love to buy from black owned stores but in my area their prices are more expensive than korean stores...and the korean owned stores r everywhere
I'm not sure I understand how a Jewish man can present the experience of black women and their hair... Additionally - what new information have you presented that Chris Rock didn't in 'Black Hair?'

Anyways thank you for pointing out the idea that there is some connection to it all.

soon theyre gonna have to make a new documentary considering that the majority of black women would soon know that they can grow their own hair long whether relaxed or natural. Its spreading so fast their are so many black girls in my high school rocking afro's, including me. Soon Indian women wont have to worry about someone trying to steal their hair anymore. Hopefully this new natural hair industry will start having some commercials to get the word spreading faster.

Smh people

But a new chinese immigrant taking jobs? boy that just makes me angry!
oh don't get me started on them koreans!
fannibal 1 year ago
@fannibal It's not the hard work. It's when you have two governments that collude to make a monopoly where there isn't an even distribution. When Microsoft did this, they got sued. The U.S. & the Korean government even shut China out of wig exports. But, Koreans don't make money off of me---unless they sell natural, organic, and products that work with my hair, and their beauty supply stores don't supply that. Better products are being created, but it's not just by blacks, but indians etc.
SparkMyWorld 11 months ago
I'm black too, african actually but black folks piss me off. Why is it when another race does something they do and they are smarter about it they get mad and say "they stealing from us, we gotta take back whats ours." i bet you those indians and other people you get your human hair from aren't complaining so SHUT THE F*CK UP.quit complaining and do something about it.if a korean is making money off your hair products, open a damn store. if white ppl win a step show, create better steps
cbuz06 1 year ago
@cbuz06 When the U.S. government is involved in creating system to help others take control of a market, it is a form of stealing----But, I hate self-hatred blacks have to feel they need to purchase these dangerous, petrolatum-mineral-oil-filled-dangerous-products from these shops. I'm so glad the healthy hair movement is growing, with natural and organic products. Even Target is supplying products like Kinky Curly--which are healthy, work with natural hair and are black-owned.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm Black.
If you don't like the competition, then do something about it instead of whining!
alander86 1 year ago 3
Sorry but serves us right. If we spent a fraction of our consumer spending habits on intangibles such as a business education we could have reversed the trend. If we are too busy trying to live up to a false standard of beauty, we have no incentive in creating market strategy for our products and control of our products.

I am glad that I engage in natural haircare and go to whole foods for my products.

lovelydiva06 2 years ago
JohhnieBoy09 2 years ago 48
@JohhnieBoy09 True. If we loved our natural hair more or even supported one another in business more maybe things would be different. But you can blame them when they work together to run any "black" owned beauty supply stores out of business. With ridiculously low prices when they get the same products for pennies and won't sell to "blacks" for the same price. How are "we" supposed to keep up?
TrueQueenEmpress 1 year ago
@JohhnieBoy09 You definately have a point, but all things considered, what's really messed up is that you have the Korean people who supply the hair products and who only sell to Korean shopkeepers in order to keep the money among their own people. Now THAT'S BLATANT RACISM!! That should be outlawed and the fact that it's allowed in the 21st Century is unfathomably disgraceful. The United States is worried about keeping justice across the world; they should take care of what's at home first.

Customers would say racial slurs to my parents on a daily basis. At school, the black kids would beat me tell me to go back where I came from and how they were gonna burn down my parents store.
This is hate. No matter how much you sugarcoat it, it is.

Your right, it is hate. But its not because of there color but because of there ignorance that they act that way. No sugar needed.

I didn't see any blaming going on. He just put a face on the where the money goes. That's what a documentary does. It's not anti-korean.

That is why I buy certain products online. I make sure I go to the manufactures website and find stores where they ship their products.

We could put Koreans out of business and bankrupt them all if we had enough common sense and self esteem to wear our hair naturally - even for a period of time, say one year. I think we should all go natural for a year and then we will be treated better when we inevitably walk back into the B & B stores that haven't gone under to by our fake hair again.

jstele & wupdablock:
it's Blacks that pay Korean rents, buy Korean mortgages, put Korean kids through college while continuing to get their hair and nails done by Koreans. Us being that stupid does not justify them being that selfish & greedy. they DO corner the market and USE Blacks to promote Korean products, It is easier for a Korean to get a business loan than a Black person; they come here with no credit hx, but with backers w/ millions of dollars amassed from poor black neighborhoods.
denij2005 2 years ago
How do you know it's easier for them to get bank loans? Do you really think it's easy for an immigrant with no credit history in the U.S. to get a bank loan? A lot of Koreans get loans from their families/friends or have worked several years to save up for a business. Just because people do well does not mean they got there unfairly. Anybody, ANYBODY, who wants to make money can open a business.
If you don't like Korean businesses, don't shop there. Plain and simple.
