i dont think the lighting is a overkill most of the 36 inch fixtures i have seen have one h.i.d. light and actinic c.f.l. wich puts the h.i.d. in the middle of the fixture right over the center brace shadowing the center of the tank. the fixture i use has no actinic support just two 250 watt 20k ushio bulbs. i could probably have got away with two 150 watt but keep in mind this is a 24 inch deep tank and as the system matures we have been slowly adding more sps and removing the soft corals.
sorry it took so long to respond very busy this time of year. the overflow is a newer style that can be adjusted. and as long as the water level in the overflow itself is set right its allmost completly silent the noise i have been dealing with is in the sump itself and i have been able to quiet that down with the use of some elbows to slow the fall of the water,
woww that's a beautiful tank! I'm thinking of setting up another tank and want to buy this same tank; 65 gallon reef ready but need toknow if the megaflow overflow system is noisy at all.. how is your experience?
Gee if we would have known, I'm sure we could have given you our tank... it was probably about 3 times the size of this... It had been Amanda and Steve's and was one of the things we sort of got left with after Steve died... We had it for about 3 years or more until my mom finally had a co-worker say she'd take it...
Cool tank, Im getting me a aquarium the same size as this one. Do u think i could put a small yellow and blue tang in a tank this size untill they outgrow it
thanks my wife and i have put some time into it.i wouldn't put two tangs in it they need a lot of room to swim a six foot tank is ideal. we like most people had big plans of upgrading to a larger tank when we bought it and it just hasn't happened yet mostly because of the money we already spent on this

is the light a over kill... im interested in gettin 2 250watt metal halide but my tank is 48" 60 or 65 gallon
