  • That is the weekend I prayed!! I was 13 years old at sand mountain al. at Bro.Billy Sunnifords!!! I can't believe ya have this on here you do know it has Punkin Brown on this tape I miss him so much!! He was my hero!! He was the Greatest Snake Handling Preacher in the Jesus Name snake handling world!!! Lloyd Collins was the Greatest in the trinity church world!!

  • If you want to prove your power with God- Go to the Hospitals and heal the sick. Why temp the Lord?

  • You put the real worship and christian's to shame it is people like you that confuse unbelivers and they run youe all look like a bunch of saintist

  • When I see a poison snake, I leave it A-L-O-N-E!!

  • SMH!!!

  • Where did you get this video? This is one my husband took of a church in Middlesboro, KY.

  • the holy ghost isn't something to be kidding around with guys, your treading on thin ice when you talk like that.

  • stupids

  • Notice how you never see any black snake handling churches....just saying.

  • I just wanted to say ppl may have their own oppinions on serpent handlin and you all can throw scriptures at one another.. But I know God is God and his word is forever settled. No matter whether we like or not or agree or not the word is still true..

  • DECEIT SPIRIT

  • You may not agree with their religion but the Bible says judge not lest ye be judge.

  • @brownfamily2671 yes you are correct, something every human should abide by.

  • @brownfamily2671

But the Bible also says you learn from nature! This is stupid and not the will of God.

  • In responce to moseseseses comment on Pumpkin Brown and his wife's death you need to get your facts straight before you start posting comments.First of all they died seperately and his wife was bite in Kentucky,or Virginia, second Pumpkin didn't die from a snake bite he had a heart attack.Third his children was not raised by the state, their grandparents John and Peggy Brown worked hard to raise them. Not all people bit have deformities John has been biten and works eveyday. and is not deformed

  • Every snake handling supporter on here has claimed Mark 16:18. You claim this comes from what Jesus spoke. Do your research. Mark 16:9-20 is widely viewed as added material sometime in the 2nd century, you know that time Jesus wasn't alive? Unfortunately snake handlers probably read Mark prior to Luke. It just seems that theres this verse in Luke. Luke 4:12, Jesus answered, "it is said: Do not put the Lord your God to the test." In other words don't tempt the Lord.

  • The music rocks, the theology does not.

  • @SupernautG Well stated.

  • PUMPKIN BROWN AND HIS WIFE GOT BIT TO VENOMOUS DEATH AT A GATHERING THAT HANDLES SNAKES IN ALABAMA, AND LEFT LITTLE CHILDREN BEHIND FOR THE STATE TO RAISE. THOSE THAT LIVE THROUGH THE BITES END UP WITH DEFORMITIES AND IMPAIRMENTS THAT MAY KEEP THEM FROM CERTAIN TRADES OF GAINFUL EMPLOYMENT FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIFE. HOW DOES THIS BRING GLORY TO GOD? OUR BODIES ARE THE TEMPLES OF THE HOLY GHOST. PROVERBS 9:6 FORSAKE THE FOOLISH AND LIVE, AND GO IN THE WAY OF UNDERSTANDING.

  • Thank you Jonsonbrown, and I agree whole heatredly, would make a difference in our churches, no more secret sin.

  • What is the time and date of the Jolo homecoming service this year? I would like to come up and worship with you all on that date.

  • @orthodoxchristian707 I am on the verge of orthodoxy myself, however I need to work out why you guys don't believe in the Power of the Holy Ghost....You too religious and to much man made dogma you call doctrine.

  • where do people come up with this stuff? lol

  • Did you know that if you chop off a snake's head, the body doesn't stop moving until the sun goes down.

  • Spic a lu lu lu lu loc a mock a smock a dodododododododo luc a lu lu spec a poc a knee o knock - cuddle a puddle zim zam flop o top a rock nuut nuut zee!!!

Gimme a snake, a great big un - zoom bob a toe mee poozoom!!!

  • This seems to be the spiritual equivalent of going to the bar and doing shots seeing who's gonna outdo who. Can you give me ONE example where disciples went and PURPOSELY handled snakes? We have Paul's example but he didn't PURPOSELY Pick up a snake. The implementation of "snakes" is BOTH physical and spiritual and in BOTH cases GOD calls us to be wise. You don't just go pick a fight with satan cause you have "faith" and the same with the physical. Again, scriptural backup..

  • looks like some dead-ass or refrigerated-ass snakes to me

  • @chiboyi007 wanna come handle one and find out? You could then come back and "share" your experience... that is if you make it.

  • a snake should bite on of their asses! The Word did not say go out and catch some poisonous snakes and bring them to church and start passing them around. ya BIG DUMMIES!!!!!!!!

  • Christians and any other religion for that matter, practice what you preach.

  • now this is my kind of church, the true christ believers!

  • I saw a docmentary on these rednecks, they were totally nuts, they had missing fingers, holes in their arms, all from snake poision, a rattler grab this man on the hand, and he was still dancing around, unbelievable.

  • okay okay...these people scare the shit out of me.looks like brice mental hospital let a few get away

  • Hope they keep alot of anti-venom on hand. I like snakes, but never enough to handle poisonous ones like that.

  • Why is it so dark in their ? Ive never been in a church that dark

  • @skylerwebb ; that's a good question...it's kinda creepy...

  • @skylerwebb it is an OLD video sherlock.. ' )

  • This looks like it should be on the introduction of True Blood.

  • I also am a believer in jesus Christ but I'm not going to pick a snake and prove to others that I'm a child of God if others don't want believe I am I don't care Long as God knows.

  • amen

  • I think these may be sincere people, however, they have misinterpreted the very scripture they use as reason to handle snakes. Jesus didn't mean for us to literally take up snakes. The "serpent" represents Satan and his attacks.

  • spiritual masturbation

  • wow can we say CULTISH nothing Godly about that at all

  • the music is jammin' though..the snakes look a little freaked out though.

  • I am not a serpent handler or holliness but i am from the appalachian mountains. These believers get their religion out of the book of Mark 16:18. Read it and it will make more sense to you. I was always tought NEVER to make fun of these people. If they have enough faith in God to pick up serpents they are doing something right. May God bless them! People around here never look down on these people..!

  • i assume you were taught not tought. And these are ignorant clowns. No faith is involved. Most those snakes wouldn't kill an adult if they were bit. And get bit a few times and immunity builds up. They never take up serpents that are sure to kill with one bite.

  • PLease try it. If you will tell me where you will do it at I will surely be there, you say there is no faith involved, if that is the truth then you would not be afraid of a little ol rattle snake, fact is you don't have the faith nor the guts, you are the same as me, I don't have it either, but I know these people have something I wish I had!!!

  • Herpetologists get bitten all the time, lack faith, and rarely die. Elephantear1: I fear you confuse stupidity with faith. in 20% of bites no venom is injected. US snakes can be lethal but usually are not. On the other hand you never see snake handlers like this using the most lethal snakes in the world. Why not?

  • What about the other 80% If you or me tried it we would be in the 80%. They may not be the most lethal in the world but they are the most lethal we have. The same GOD that keeps them from dieing from a rattlesnake bite would keep them no matter what kind it was. My daughter was bitten by a cottonmouth 37 inches long and GOD healed her instantly!!

  • Most US snake bites, without faith, are not lethal. There are no snake handling nuts where the snakes are really lethal. That tells you a lot. Any bite where venom is not injected, which is often the case for large "prey" would leave two bite marks and little else. I had an atheist friend bite by a puff adder and he survived easily. They won't try with vipers, mambas and the really deadly snakes. Your level of "miracle" is rather low.

  • esteemnz: surely you would not mind meeting me there and you could handle one of their "harmless" snakes. just let me know the time and place. when my daughter was bitten her foot was swelling and she was crying and saying that it hurt worse than anything she had ever had before. also her foot was turning real red, and there was lumps under each bite mark.

  • You intentionally misrepresent what I said, but then that happens with the faith infested all the time. I never said they were "harmless". What I said is that most bites don't lead to death. And they don't. You now contradict yourself. YOu said your daughter was instantly healed now you describe symptoms.

  • You have never had it happen to you, so you dont understand. But the symptoms where all there. The pain, the swelling, the lumps under the fang marks. But mostly she was almost screaming in pain. Then we prayed. And then God healed her instantly. You must sure be a dummy, hard to explain things to you.

  • @esteemnz your an idiot.... I don't know where you get your information.. but where I come from Copperheads and rattle snakes ARE anything BUT pets.. they are deadly.. and no one said we handle them for a "miracle".... only because the WORD said to do it.... so maybe you need to get some of your information right before you go educating the rest of the world about something you obviously know NOTHING about... ' )

  • Listen to the music. Listen very carefully to the music.

  • I'm a new christian and I have not read everything in the bible, but what I have read makes it pretty clear that humans and serpents are not on good terms. Doesn't the entire thoery behind this practice fall under putting god to the test? I'm refering to the books involving the temptation of Jesus.

  • You are absolutely correct.

  • you dumb fucking ass it's nothing to do with serpants and humans its the mo fuckin devil. You fucking retard.

  • I appreciate the intelligent and eye opening response to my comment. I guess I hadn't looked at it that way.

  • This is probably the only video , listed by all the various so called "churches" that actually has anything do with The Bible, God and Holy Spirit.

  • Look , God also tells us to put on His full armour but we don't wear a metel suit to work every day. It's more : read your Bible and know the truth of the Gospel in order to face every day life which is filled with "deadly stuff ".Mark 16:15 -18 Is the Great Comm. which probably talks of missionaries going into dangerous(communist/muslim..etc) places praying for people and God healing them. I don't think it's speaking of a cobra or black mamba.

  • Cults like this are of the Devil. God is no where to be found arounf that place. This is pure evil, based on some misinterpreted bible passages. I hope there children are taken away before they are murdered.

  • I believe your right to a point. I don't know if I'd go as far as to say they are cults but they are definitely NOT accomplishing the great commission by telling people they have to pick up a "viper". Even a Rattler. Look at these Churches. They're probably under 100 members and have'nt had a new convert in 10 yrs. Misinterpretaion,I agree

  • That's a heretical practice. The Biblical passage that supports this was not even originally in the Bible.

  • These folks must put these snakes in the icebox a couple of hours before they start the "show". This stuff is as misinterpreted as "talking in tounges". At Pentecost the disciples spoke to the many different people in their languages not some "sham-a-lama-ding-dong" mystery voice.

  • I heard somewhere that in many cases, the snakes are made less agressive by keeping them in sacks, without water, and in cold temperature for days prior to a service.

  • @DrHogfan

Read 1 Corinthians 14. It talks about speaking in tounges that are not understood by men but only by God. I do agree that people often fake it, but there is an "angelic language"

  • @couches12 which im assuming is Aramaic.

  • @couches12 The Greek term "GLOSSO" means tongues or languages. At Pentecost believers were given the ability to speak in many different languages so that people visiting from around the Roman world could here God's word in their native languages....Nelson's Bible commentary. When someone brings up the "validity" of th spiritual gift of being able to speak in tongues I immediately think of Gnosticism. Gnostic's felt they had some inside knowledge.

  • @DrHogfan i actually just heard this at church, actually. The word, GLOSSO i mean. I totally agree with you my friend. I have really been looking into the tongues thing lately. I think you nail it.

  • I think the LORD protects them because of thier sincere desire to serve Him, however you never hear of this type of thing in the early church.

  • i think they are BATSHIT insane. but that's just my theory.

  • Mr. Brown, or is it Mr. Johnson;

You need to give up your bitterness and forgive whoever caused you to have such a negative atitude against God's people. What one person, or one church does, should not bring all into account, we are judged individually. Just as you want to be sir.

  • But what kind of poisons are they drinking, hemlock, sodium/potassium cyanide, d-Con, Zyklon B, sewer water? Or is it watered down rat poison? It has been reported numerous deaths in some of these churches where some parishioners have been bitten by the deadly serpent, "because they weren't walking with the Lord."

Does that make a believer less of a true Christian because they choose not to play with rattlers and suck down ichy poison?

  • Flossy100 nailed it.

  • sad to say that most Biblical scholars have recognized that the ending passage in Mark 16 never appeared in the original texts, they are later additions (most likely expounding on examples like Paul in Acts). The earliest known manuscripts do not contain verses 9 through the end. Read the footnotes in any Bible in the Bookshelf about Mark 16. Not to mention the whole "don't put the Lord your God to a foolish test"

  • the 'challenge' to handle snakes scripturally sounds remarkably familiar- as if someone had tempted Christ to throw himself off the temple because angels would catch him.... ;)

  • I give them credit. They're trying to follow the Bible to the letter, while the cheesy Pentecostals, who know that their "tongues" and unprovable miracles are fake, disregard the words about drinking poison and handling snakes because they know they'd die.

  • This is an error.

The bible speaks for itself. This passage gives account of things that happen to occur, as in; "even if they handled serpents". The biblical example of this is in Act 28:3 And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

It was not Paul's intention to handle the snake, or viper, it just happened, and the power of the Holy Ghost was there to protect him & he shook it off.

  • Anyone can fake the sign you believe in (mecca-lecca-hi, mecca-hiney-ho) but here you come along, CHANGING the words of your own god.

    "The bible speaks for itself"

Mark 16:18 They *shall* take up serpents.

Not "even if they handled serpents."

    Oh, ye of little faith!

Put up or shut up. All professing xians should be required to pick up rattlesnakes and drink Drano, or stop believing; the world would be a much better place.

  • Firstly we are not xians. We are Christians. That is believers in Christ. The New Testament Church is our model, and the Bible is our preamble. I have no choice but to imitate what is given there.

And if they shall drink any deadly thing: no drano needed, but one of our missionaries did drink poison that was given to him by tribal witch doctors in order to disprove what he believe. He lives until this day.

  • the New Testament Church also layed hands & prayed for the sick & they were healed...thats what i wonder if they have enough faith to reach in a box to get a snake & handle it,,why can't they pray & lay hands on their sick family members??it does take great faith to reach & get a poisonous snake from a box,,. thats why i think the snake thing looks more for show or tempting God..just my opinion & i'm not knocking any denomination,,.God is great,,,but i wouldn't want to tempt him,,

  • @jonsonbrown I want them to drink deadly poison too. Mark 16:18

...Error!!!!!! Delete this false doctrine...it's just crazy.

  • @jonsonbrown required by who? And in the Bible, snakes and poison often refer to demons and evil. So we have power over evil because of Jesus. Amen

  • @yadaelroiy: Amen to that.

  • Our belief comes from mark 16:18..not acts..and if our beliefs are so wrong and rediculous, why is it still a matter? why not just leave it at that? something thats is thought of as being so rediculous, sure gets alot of publicity..when not intended..no offense..if you saw it in person, you would be just as strong as a believer as i am..in person its not just seeing it..theres a feeling that can not be denied that goes along with it..god bless u and urs.

  • im not here to judge or to be judged, but im not entirely sure if i believe in a "god". i see everything as equal, even snakes...they are just creatures, like you and me...i dont think i am any different than them or anything else...but, i mean...how do you guys know if there really is a god? (no offence intended, im just really curious)...ive searched many places, but could somebody please give me proof, or something, it would be much appreciated...thank you

  • raver, no one can prove that God exists and others can't prove that he doesn't exist. The only way to prove God exists is within believers by total faith that the living God lives in all that was, is and to what becomes. You can see His existence in people's lives if you really try and search for HIM through His only Son Jesus Christ. Seek and Ye shall find. He lives in His Word, the Holy Bible.

  • is this jackass or sunday school?

  • What is not widely known is that St Mark ended his Gospel at Verse 8 of Chapter 16. The remainder of it, including the verse on which the snake handlers base their ritual, was tacked on later and its provenance is highly doubtful. Therefore these unfortunate people are putting themselves in grave danger, all for a second-hand passage of scripture that does not rightly belong in the Gospels at all! Check the footnote to verse 18 in your Bibles, folks!

  • omg thats crazy....there are such thing as snake handleing Pentecostals...thats creepy!

  • If they don't keep the snakes under a hot light they will be tired since they are cold-blooded.

  • Sounds like a mean ass sax!

  • you have to be plain retarded to handle a snake and think that God told you to do it. the God i serve is holy and i do obey him but you cannot take that passage of scripture literally read on in matthew bud. you snake handling hypocrits are crazy and need to try to get into a good bible beliving baptist church

  • The snakes are probably too shocked by all the hoopla to bite anyone.

  • YIkes~ That is some scary-assed shit!

  • Not all pentecostals are snake handlers!I'm Pentecostal and I personally think that those people are stupid.I think its great that they have complete freedom in worship. But there is a verse in the Bible that says thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God!By purposely putting themselves in danger, these people are testing God.He is not someone to be tested. He is definitely someone to be trusted. But that doesnt mean you should go out looking for trouble! Oh and by the way, PENTECOSTALISM IS NOT A CULT!

  • The pot is calling the kettle black!

Thanks for your testimony that even pentecostals pick and choose which parts of the babble they want to believe, and which parts they want to discard.

It takes more faith to pick up a snake and drink poison than it does to jabber in "unknown tongues" or flop around like a fish out of water.

  • Just so you know sir, the Holy Ghost (speaking in unknown tongues and such) is not something to make fun of...You may be walking on dangerous ground...Im not your creator or judge, but the bible does say that the only sin that cant be forgiven is blaspheming the Holy Ghost, if I were you I would watch what I said and be more careful...

  • iam oneness pentecostal, and i don't go around calling other beleivers stupid.this is the problem.most heathens wouldn't even say there stupid they would say if thats they way they worship and its in the bible thats there buiness. But just like jesus you won't have no problems with the heathens. the persacution will always come from so called religouse -church people who will call you names mock you and make fun of you.

  • Jesus directly said if you are a believer you shall take up serpents.

  • Well, do they have to be the poisonous ones?

  • If they were not poisonous there would be no point...lol...good question though...

  • That He did Brother you and did not put it in the Bible, we just believe it.

  • "By purposely putting themselves in danger, these people are testing God" So it is not permitted to test a Supreme Being? If we're to accept that the Bible is the divinely inspired written word of an omnipotent and omscient entity, then why not do exactly what that book of fairy tales says to do.

  • It says that believers can be bitten by venemous snakes and not die. If one truly believes, why not test a Supereme Being and it supposed word? Are you espousing that a omnipotent entity can't withstand being tested?

  • How can you be tempting God, when you are doing exactly what He said to do Mark 16:18 so do you think it is tempting God to pray, that also is just doing what He said to do. the word shall is a powerful word. Jesus if you believe in Him you shall take up serpents. He also said all unbelief has it's place in the lake that burns with fire. I am surely going to take Jesus' Word over yours any day He said do it and you say if you do what Jesus said you are stupid.

  • Amen brother...

  • It is not tempting God! They dont take up serpents to test God, they already know God is there and will not let harm come to them. They dont do it in themselves anyhow, to take up a serpent you must have the Holy Ghost, the spirit of God, which will guide you, it indicates when to take up serpents...The reason people get bit, is moving too fast, too slow, or at the wrong time when the Holy Ghost moves upon them...

  • fuck you, fuck ur fake ass faith, fuck ur crazy drug addict brothers and sisters who speak in their little languages, and most of all fuck you

  • what do you have against pentecostals??

did someone hurt your poor little feelings!?!?!? i know that we as pentecostals may be snobs and stuck up at sometimes, and im sorry for that. but you seriously need to get over your issues and stop bashing other ppls religions!!!

  • gipper, do you even know what you are talking about?, yea sure you call our faith crazy, suicidal. but let's look at your world shall we? in nascar men race up to 250 mh sometimes and some men die, in boxing men and women beat each others brains out causing concussions and all sorts of brain damage but oh, this is perfectly legal. what im trying to say is, dont judge other people's faith. at least we have scripture for doing what we do. what does nascar have? their fans? hmph

  • If you believe Mark 16:18, why should you have to do it? To test God?

    Hmmm...

I suppose it might be an attempt to build faith by proving the promise?

  • the bible says if you believe you SHALL do it shall is one of the most powerful words in the engish language

  • No, I don't know these people, but I used to know some old people who practiced similar, strange pentecostal behavior, like handling hot coals and hugging stove pipes.

  • is the legitemacy of this practice really open for debate? you cant legally use drugs, or commit suicide, however, its perfectly fine to play with snakes? you know, if I gave some one a gun and encouraged them to play roulette with it, its concievable that I might be charged with manslaughter. I wonder about the guy who brought the snakes...or is that protected under freedom of religion?

  • This religious practice is unconstitutionally banned in most states. But it shouldn't be. Drugs should be legalized, too. And assisted suicide. And prostitution. This is supposed to be a free country, yes?

  • I will agree with everything you said. but, I still wonder about the legal implications. certainly civil suits could happen, at the very least. Im with you though on the rest. except Id have to place reservations on the drugs. but certainly pot should be legal..

  • From the docs I've seen, these people usually have to kind of "hide out" from law enforcement. But the police kind of turn their heads at it unless there's an incident (snake bite). These old-time pentecostals don't believe in going to court and suing people, so the risk of a lawsuit is minimal.

  • I know some old timers like that, although different religion, but I see your point. I dont believe in most of what passes for suit either, but there are some legitemate reasons to sue. I think if they were active recruiters, it might be more common, since whole families may not be involved, but as it is, theyre probly family held practices, so yeah, the chances are nihl.

  • This is the very center of the Republican party and their values

  • No, these people are independents. They just want to be left alone to practice their weird religion in peace. They have no agenda to force their beliefs on others like the evangelicals and republicans do.

  • Well if you are going to "educate" everyone about "us". You should tell everyone to read the Holy Bible Mark Chapter 16:18

They shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

  • I'm very familiar with the biblical passage you quoted, and I've quoted it to many so-called "believers." As you know, most just shrug it off as BS or allegory, but still have the nerve to call themselves fundamentalist, bible-believing christians. I think all people who profess faith in Jesus should take up the serpent; either put up or shut up!

  • C'mon man ! Jesus called the jewish leaders a "Brood of Vipers" . So in giving the 11 disciples the Great Commission he was saying your gonna have to deal w/ these people-which they did and died. This might be totally off the mark(no pun intended) It also say's in the Bible if someone asks you for some bread you wouldn't give him a snake or something to that effect...How can you win people to the Lord by expecting them to handle rattlrs.

  • Church members handling rattlers might qualify as "WORKS" . but the act of handling rattlers to me is totally foolish.

  • This is from Middleboro Ky..
