  • When Olive said,"Oh, it's you, Bluto!" and continued screaming for help, Popeye should've then said,"Bluto? I've been tricked!" and then ate the spinach.

  • IM EATING SPINACH WHEN LOOKING AT THIS VIDEO... AND 4:58-5:01 IS THE BEST TIME OF THIS MOVIE

  • 4:58-5:01 best moment... spinash time ... what is funny is that now by watching this video in eating spinash

  • Wow she is ugly, even for a cartoon

  • He is Real Superman

  • Wish spinach really did all that.

  • Jim Tyer didn't do any animation in this short, probably due to Kneitel's insistence. Uncredited animators here are Johnny Gent, William Henning and Morey Reden...

  • Blutos got an "S" on his chest, then he doesnt

  • bluto wanna tap olive bad

  • I'm Flabberblasted!

  • Well, Spinach is green, like Kryptonite, so...

  • if sopa gets approved then this wont exist

  • Notice how ugly that Bluto is here shaven, compared to in "Shaving Mugs" where he's very handsome when shaven with combed hair.

  • seriously cant believe i ate spinach(as a kid) jus to become a badass like popeye!!

  • the first REAL badass in TV history.

  • My grandfather is exactly like popeye, he was even in the navy

  • this was when cartoons were actually good. Unlike the crap kids are watching these days haha

  • Looks like Popeye gave him the reBOOT!

  • @Hperman09: Famous Studio (formerly the Fleischer Studio) already had an agreement with the creators of the Superman character to produce a series of Superman cartoons. I'm not sure, but when "She Sick Sailors" was released I believe that the Superman series had been discontinued.

  • OK, so apparently (according to the sign above the train station) Popeye, Olive, and Bluto all live in Bridgeport, CT

  • What a total salvi hahaha frisked popey

  • the superman shield was gone from bluto's chest till the end of the cartoon!

  • @cyberyanmar

    Copyright-concerns?

  • Did the creators of superman was asked by Paramount to give permission for this?

  • Popeye would 'EFF' Chuck Norris up.

  • Just like Olive Oyl to fall in love with a fictional cartoon character. Of course she's a fictional cartoon character too.

  • A human can penetrate a train but bullets can't penetrate a steel can of spinach...wow

  • I guess I'm gonna have to search for some of my favorite Popeye characters: Alice the Goon, Engene the magical Jeep, J Willington Wimpy, Roughhouse, and of course, Olive's brother Castor.

  • And they say cartoons are bad now, they had guns in those days.

  • @SonicDarkart but do you get the whole moral of the cartoon? thats what you're missing

  • @keg2 That's not my point, I just find how biased American cencorship is. they even have guns in the simpsons,

  • was she reading magazine or eating!

  • troll face pause at 1:20

  • I wonder if this made anyone think that they could stop a train with their fist back in the day.

  • bluto has some train fetish or something? why does he always! like ALWAYS tie olive on the track :|

  • @pr4v33n It's the typical resort to a bad guy back then, where as now most villain want genocide.

  • i don't get it the superman symbol is there and now is gone

  • this is my favorite popeye episode

  • 5:23 POPEYEMAN to the rescue! LOL

  • 3:03 "if you can do'ed it, i can do'ed it"...lol

  • the heck! Since when did Superman ever wear a sailor's hat? then 1:51 he heard me and quickly kept it...LOL

  • P-man is the man!

  • Comment removed

  • i couldn't stop laughing when popeye said "Listen here stupidman ".

  • @rachelandmarie1 LMAO!!! Yeah, same here! Couldn't stop laughing when Popeye got in his face and, knowing his pronunciation, I figured "stupid-man" was alot easier for him to say than "superman"...LMAO!

  • Comment removed

  • The fuck is up with Bluto anyway. She's not turning him down or anything and he still randomly ties her to a train track.

    what a fucking psycho.

  • Olive was a god damn floozy

  • that gun is beefy as fudge

  • @mcarnteydied not

  • "She ain't gots enuf meat on her for a guy like me" - futurama truck stop guy said it best.

  • @fastacker2 yeah, seriously, she's so damn thin there's hardly any flesh on her...just sticks and a huge head like a baloon...later versions of her was a lot better...when you can actually see her eyes and she looks to have gained abit more weight...LOL

  • Anybody know the name of the Popeye 'toon, where he brings the orphans a TV, to watch him on the boxin' match? Please let me know. God bless you, for your efforts!

  • Wish i could find a sound clip of the fast trumpet music version of popeye the sailor man that plays whenever popeye eats spinach at roughly 5:15

  • Heh. I guess trains back then were big enemies.

  • so he can fly through the window..but needs an umbrella to land from a building?

  • well you had lot to say lol

  • Amy Adams is said to be voicing Olive in a new Popeye movie, she is playing Lois in the new Superman movie. I'll be constantly reminded of this episode of the latter comes true.

  • @MrCure4 I heard that too!!! I also heard that Popeye would be voiced by Jim Carrey!!!

  • @MrJP75 Works for me. They should get Jim Cummings or Ray Stevenson for Bluto though.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrJP75 I dunno, I'm just not sure if Jim Carrey could really get Popeye's voice right, :-( At least Robin Williams could get a little close to Jack Mercer's gruff tone but Carrey?!

Well I guess we'll just have to see.

  • Arr she be a whore

  • Popeye, Olive, and Bluto all live in Bridgeport, Connecticut... who knew?!

  • Fleishman was a genius.

  • Popeye would fuck Superman up.

  • @Viktir666 check out a Goku vs Superman video...that was awesome and downright funny! LOL

  • 5:03 - 5:15 The 'real' Superman wouldn't do that either and if he really loved Olive Oyl, neither would Bluto!

  • 4:37 - 4:41 The 'real' Superman would never do this to an innocent person. Olive Oyl's such a Superman fan, she could've seen that right away, but alas, it's a cartoon and I really think that these poor sailors (Popeye and Bluto), whom have put up with her for years, ought to be thinking, "I traveled over water and fought a war only to come home to hags like this? You've got to be kidding!"

  • @Viktir666 Take it easy, my friend. I knew it was fiction when I typed it. I meant the difference between Bluto's Superman and the Superman that we all know and love (the one that stood for truth, justice, and the American way).

  • @jeprice08 LOL. That's cool. Thor would beat up Superman though.

  • @Viktir666 Yeah, thanks to his lightning!

  • @jeprice08 LOL yeah magic is one of Superman's weakness. You seem like a cool guy so I won't troll you or be a dick to you.

  • @Viktir666 Same here.

  • @Viktir666

Of course, Popeye & company don't exist either. So you have one non-existent person interested in another non-existent person, talk about existential.

  • @MsPandaRosa I never said Popeye existed. Strawman.

  • @Viktir666

Very true, but reread my comment.

I just enjoy that kind of idea.

  • Popeye kicked Superman's face in. LOL. Can't mess with hisk Spinach.

  • @MegaJaystar1 Right.

  • Like superman would go for olive oil when he has lois lane.

  • Fangirls sucks.

  • Bruto disliked.

  • If i go crazy will you still call me stupidman

  • Popeye as Daredevil in Marvel Comic Books as Popeye-Daredevil! Don't mess Popeye as Daredevil for the San Diego Comic Con!

  • @bigkids09 superman was the shit back then

  • I remember that i had i comic book with popeye that goes with olive to the theaters and wached superman together, popeye jealous superman claiming that he can do everything that superma does in the film and saw a dream that was helping superman in the movie!

  • Lol this proves Superman ain't got nothing on a Navy man. =P

  • spinach kryptonite!

  • man really she really likes superman he sucks

  • It is interesting to see Bluto without his beard.

  • lmaoo eazy does it!!! lool

  • I would pay a million bucks for someone to do that to a train in real life

  • tom kenny as bluto/ superman

    nancy cartwright as olive oyl

    dee baker as popeye

  • Olive Oil's a Superman fangirl who prefers a fictional bishie over her real boyfriend. Go figure. I guess her character has been written worse, this episode's actually more sympathetic to her.

That said, I actually love these old nostalgic cartoons, they're still pretty fun.

  • Bruno is missing S on chest likeSuperman what haved , big mistake from 2:24 to the ending :/

  • @NikoBellicSerbia30 You noticed that too?

  • did he just say stupidman?

  • @TheShinema yes XD XD XD

  • if there's one thing i know about superman he doesn't wear gloves

  • 2:29 Bruno is "nothing man" :D

  • @KragJin That's a great super villain name! Superman is WAY better than bluto!

  • Had no idea Olive was a comic book geek. I bet she'd hate the Death of Superman series, though.

  • i love bluto:x

  • heh,Olive Oil likes her some DC comics.

  • I'm not too wild about most of the Famous Studios Popeye's like I am the earlier Fleischer Popeye's, but I always kind of like this Superman one and it's homages to the earlier Fleischer Superman animated shorts.

  • The eternal question: Why do two sailors constantly fight over a scrawny chick like Olive? And Superman, with a 5 o clock shadow. Hilarious!

  • @USSLexington1709 I know right? Plus she puts dandruff in her comic books! EWW!!!

  • Sometimes, Olive could be such a tool. Loyalty? What's that?

  • What happened to good animation? It seems the last good cartoon on CN is Chowder, and now it's ended! They're not showing Popeye on CN anymore neither are they showing Looney Tunes! Seriously the old Cartoon Network fans are the ones who should be running Cartoon Network, not those cheap buisnessmen who all they care about is MONEY.... wow I wrote a lot..

P.S. Thanks for uploading, I subscribed to your channel!

  • @WalDemento999 Popeye is on Boomerang. if you have DVR have it recorded at the time you are not there to see it.

  • @WalDemento999 CN is airing Looney Tunes again.

  • @TeamRocket2010 Yeah they are, although wheither they'll ever come close to equaling the best of Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Bob Clampett, or even Bruce Timm with his Duck Dodgers series is another question.

  • back in the 50's superman was the shit. very first super hero ever created

  • @darkcylander nowadays Batman is the shit.

  • @TheSlickAndroid no, batman has no powers, I'd say spiderman, ironman and deadpool are the most popular of today

  • @darkcylander well,I was saying for DC comics,Batman is the shit nowadays

but yeah, overall right now,Iron man is the shit(Spider-man was,but recently Iron man's taken the spotlight. Deadpool has become overused).

  • @darkcylander also, what does having no powers have to do with it?

  • @TheSlickAndroid "super" powers makes a "super" hero. otherwise your just a hero. ironman's a super hero because he is a super genius. all batman is is super rich.

  • @darkcylander just because he doesn't have "super" powers that doesn't mean he's not a superhero. Batman is a super genius too, practices virtually every single martial,etc.. If your saying Batman isn't a super hero, then you might as well say Iron Man isn't either, because, like Batman,he is super genius and super rich. the only difference is that he uses an advanced metal suit, and isn't as grim(personality-wise) as Batman.

  • @TheSlickAndroid batman is a really smart man that is really good at solving the riddler's riddlers but he isn't a super genius. ironman made an unlimited energy supply and sci fi weapons in a non-sci fi time period.

  • @darkcylander Batman's genius isn't just solving the Riddler's riddles. he's made a lot of highly advanced weapons,is an extremely skilled detective/planner etc.

can't we just agree that Batman and Iron Man are equals who have their own pros and cons respectively? Batman's just as much a super hero as Iron man.

  • Wow olive oil is a fan of superman, maybe lois lane will jelous for this one

  • While this is one of my favorite Popeye episodes, I did not like the fact that Bluto used a gun on Popeye. Bluto was always a bad guy but I would not think that he would stoop to such a level as potentially killing Popeye.

  • In The New Popeye Cartoons, (Created By Doug TenNapel) There's A Cast!

    Brian Doyle Murray-Popeye, Poopdeck Pappy, Pup-Eye, Pip-Eye, Poop-Eye, Peep-Eye

    Jim Cummings-Bluto

    Nancy Cartwright-Olive Oyl

    Frank Welker-Swee' Pea

  • ah ah stupid man.good joke

  • Halfway through the picture, Bluto's S-insignia inexplicably disappears....

  • It's On Bomerang From Cartoon Network!

  • Popeye called Bluto as Superman, Stupidman. Because he is jealous for Olive Oyl to win her back. Its look like to tell Lux Luyxor that Superman but Bluto stole Olive Oyl from Popeye the Sailorman!

  • Great classic!! Thanks for posting it.
