  • Hey sounds good man.... Little Kenny Garrett influence? Love it.

  • @adnanmelek thats a very bold statement. No doubt he is a phenomenal sax player but to say that he is the best is the world is somewhat disrespectful to the other great sax players who have paved the way before.

  • 0:55 is so sick

  • Superb TRE BIENS

  • genius i think !!!!!

  • maybe he's a reincarnation of Coltrane and Parker rolled into 1! :o) wonderful!

  • whoa, stunning

  • This young guy is bloowing like he had 1 thousand years saxophone practice (see others video). He s got a lot of ideas on his phrasing and the sound is cutting like a tooth shark... Be carefull every saxophonist, a monster is coming...Alex Han has a big career front of him. Great job.....Damien (a french saxophonist)

  • I take back my comment on another vid. This is my favorite one of Alex. This is amazing and I agree with all of the positive comments on ideas and development. Amazing solo!

  • ufffffffffff esta al nivel de coltrane

  • @aeropau ABSOLUTAMENTE NO !! :)

  • Great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your one bad cat!

  • This is one of the only times I've heard this tune played where the soloist DIDN'T quote John Coltrane every other chorus... or at all for that matter! Sweet.

  • muy bueno

  • that bassiest makes makes me "Jizz in my Pants"

  • bahaha....no joke!

  • This is what it's all about. Improvising!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • perfecto

  • Of course he's a professional musician and composer who's an awesome talent and is only going to get better. I made my remark jokingly only because I'm a halfway descent alto player who was burning through giant steps at about the same age complete with tritone, half/full diminished subs and chromaticism at the same speed and we both made it our own. Alex is committed to improve and is definitely better than I am but any professional musician knows there's always room to grow.

  • Aannd...you claim that you are a good sax player, which I would like to believe....but wheres your proof. I see that you used to have a video of Recordame on your account, presumably of you playing the song, but it no longer exists. How unfortunate....

  • @Kunjaku

'complete with tritone, half/full diminished subs' HAHA what are you talking about?! Believe me I actually understand jazz harmony and have no idea what you mean by a 'half diminished sub'? Even given that you act as if jazz music is only about scale choice and harmony which is clearly wrong. I'm sure you are 'halfway descent' but you sound arrogant talking about your 'burning' - post a vid if you want people to compare you.

  • @SilverJ4 It is a new sandwich at Subway. They say it was Gerards favoritve as kid in Indiana ? Fact or fiction, or myth ?

  • I think Kunjaku was only joking...why that offennsive bro?? :-D

  • This video shows us why he is touring with Marcus Miller lol

  • THIS is how I think Giant Steps should be played. development, melodies, not just arpeggios. and this sounds very cool with alto sax and electric bass.

  • Why is it only 1:50. I want more!!!!!

  • ah it was ok. keep up the good work

  • ur a dick

  • love the sarcasim?

  • Hi there seems to be alot ot talented sax players in here [and i can se why [fantastic. I am a 47 yr old from uk trying to learn could some of yo guys have a listen and offer me a little advice please its youtube and just type in romeo011 please leave comments good or bad i use a Selmer D. m/p dark rovner lig, and play a Erhlam pro 2 sax yes cheap.

  • ALex is great sax player, Unfornutally I could not visit any of perfonmance of Marcus Miller in Europe. Francesco Cafizo is also killing me...:) I like you both !!!...keep playing and practising!!Congratulations!!!!

  • is that earl travis on bass? looks like earl travis, without a mohawk.

  • Yeah :) Looks like Earl...actually SOUNDS like Earl IoI

  • Hello all.

For the record, Alex has not submitted any of these videos, nor has he commented on ANY of these videos. In fact, they have all been appropriated from his website without his permission. I should know, I am his webmaster and father.

While I recognize the desire for some to voice their opinions, why is it that some of you feel the need to compare or diminish others' accomplishments. I've listened to Ben Van Gelder and he is an extremely talented young man!

  • I admire anyone who shows a commitment to excellence, whether that is Alex, Ben or Francesco. They all deserve recognition. But there are MANY other very talented young people out there, who I hope get some exposure as well.

If you feel Alex's site is pretentious, what can I say, I am the one who built it and maintains it, not Alex. Some of the items you see on his site are there in deep appreciation for support that he has been so fortunate to receive.

  • Wise comment Daddy Han :). I personally respect Alex Han a lot. And those who are trying to tear him down are stupid. Good luck, and great work for the Website.

    ~Flow

  • Whether that's true or not, he's still a magnificent player. I'd hate to know if that's true though. Oh yeah, and stop hatin' GEEantonelli.

  • I came here to see who Alex Han was. This young man is Excellent Indeed. I saw on Marcus Miller's website... he is playing in the band on his tour in Europe. Good for him! I wouldn't pay attention to critics. It's all pointless.

  • selmisha, you are an idiot. How could you possibly know that alex han posts under any particular name.

bet you feel like a right twat now that his dad replied, and rightly so.

  • Just to comment something on all of this. There so many talented young musicians out there! A few names were mentioned here, but I live in New York and a sax player myself (23 btw). There are sooooo many! 20 years old and younger or slightly older. The point is -certain people are being pushed very strongly and while they (maybe) deserve it others do to. I respect Ben very much because it seems at least that this guy is pushing through MAINLY relying on his talent and not promotion. That's it.

  • this kid is good for sure, but van gelder is much more musical and original imo. both of those guys are going to have great careers, anyways.

  • comparisons-schmarisons. what's the deal with that? who the hell cares about van gelder?

han's awesome! i just saw on his website that he's gonna be playing with herbie hancock and a bunch of other big names. obviously, they must know he's great too.

  • my fault i found out why you dislike van gelder, it's because your the cat on video, well sounds great

  • what are you talkin about boy? oh i get it, maybe you're really van gelder! nice playing!

  • this kid is good for sure, but van gelder is much more musical and original imo. both of those guys are going to have great careers, anyways.

  • Questo è un mostro...He plays giant steps so easly.great tecnique

  • very good but hes no Franceso Cafiso

  • he's no ben van gelder check out that kid on myspace

  • van gelder? you gotta be kiddin, i almost fell asleep listening to him.

  • if you listen to his recent stuff on myspace like countdown this kid is no joke he like on a totally different level then the kid on the not, not to take anything away from him check out ben van gelders countdown he plays so much stuff

  • i listened to that too. still not impressed. besides there are others who are doing kinda the same thing. check out loren stillman if you like that kind of sound. stillman is maybe a little older, but i prefer his sound the van gelder. im not knocking him, but just sayin he doesnt strike me as anything special.

  • well to each his own but i have heard both loren and ben loren is great, but ben on another different thing than what is loren doing, plus i feel that ben is more technically sound than loren

  • Franceso Cafiso is one dimensional, be bop only. This kid has diversity....

  • you obviously haven't heard his new stuff, def not one dimensional and much better technique than alex.

  • Should be really hard to have a "much better technique". Alex Han has an excellent, and solid technique; he was 16 in this video, he's now 19. And I've heard it play "humpty dumpty" by Chick Corea, which has a quite hard progression. And he flows without no problem in this song ! This man is impressive and has a real knowledge of contemporary music. Cafiso doesn't have that knowledge.

  • Can someone told me how old he is? I'm not sure I really wanna know, but someone just tell me...

  • i think he's like 17 or 18 but you can check for sure on his site.

  • you DONT wanna know lol

  • man...he is one bad cat...dig that lick at 1.18...he plays it quite a bit

  • college schmollege

  • This guy is a cold blooded beast!!!

  • being a professional saxophonist is insanely difficult. heres a kid who practices all the time, hes a sax major at berklee i think so hes devoting his entire life to just practicing and practicing. and he STILL has to keep working and improving because its just that hard to be pro. He's insanely good hes gonna go far because he works hard.

  • Giant steps is a hard piece to play, I know from playing it, and I can terll you, after how long I have practiced it, that isn't the real piece, he is improvising!

  • lol. people like you make me laugh. you clearly know jack sh**t about jazz. if you listen to the start of the video you can clearly hear the END OF THE HEAD! this is obviously a vid of the solo choruses. and yes hes improvising - its what jazz musicians do! no wonder you cant play it!

  • what the F** is wrong with you? The kids just a beginner, theres no need to go on a rampage enlightening him on the basics of jazz, you sick F***. Get a life.

  • what? the comment is a reply to that of ferrariguy47! the kid on the video kicks ass man! perhaps you might like to read and understand other peoples comments before you reply! i wasn't slaggin the playin! the playins great! idiot

  • Ok I hate to argue over this great rendition of giant steps but you totally took my comment about you incorrectly. Look at what you said again : "lol. people like you make me laugh. you clearly know jack sh**t about jazz... no wonder you cant play it! "

you basically got really angry a a beginner (who commented previously, I am not talking about ALEX HAN)and Im saying lay off the guy, hes just a beginner. No need to go ape S*** over some beginners comment. Thank you.

  • ahhhhh ok i get it. well, thatd "kid" you're talking about is 41 years old!

  • wow

    love it

  • awesome...he quotes kenny garrett's version of giant steps on "Triology"

  • I've seen this boy live @ a Jazz Festival in Corpus Christi several yrs back when he was 14, and INCREDIBLE!!! This guy is absolutely amazing!

  • putain ca groove

  • They were rough on you

    Thats how it is

    Keep practicing

    Johnny Guitar Carson

  • nobody was hard on him as far as i can see

  • That's right... I don't know why you're sayin that Jvciem...

  • Yeap. Alex Han est un pur génie du saxophone, chaque fois que j'lécoute il me donne la motivation du travail. Il est, en plus fort agréable et disponible, un garcon tres gentil et a l'ecoute.

  • genius or a lot of work!!!

  • what do you mean with "genius"? do you think he was born and could play like that??! of course this man is VERY talented but he had to practise THAT hard you can't even imagine..

  • @drekaphey

    both :D

  • @drekaphey thats alot of work

  • @drekaphey or both
