@keepshowkeeper in the 60s/70s it was a common phrase to say... "its a gas" in other words, its awesome or something along those lines. you hear it in the rolling stones, "im jumping jack flash its a gas gas gas"

It was 1988 or 1989. USSR. A lot of italian and german disco music and very little of new wave. Exactly this clip of Blondie was the only proof on the soviet TV that there is another music. I was 5 or 6 years old and woke up early every day in a hope to catch this videoclip in the morning TV program. This beutiful woman and this great performance are the best impressions from the 80th for me.

Disco, the programme from which this comes, was *such* a misnomer, yeah you got cool stuff like this (New Wave Band Hijacks Disco shock!), and then you'd get some Schlager fellah in a bow-tie, with his hair looking like it had been painted on (at the same time as his tan) and a voice like Harry Secombe. Also the impossibly camp Ilja Richter thinking he was in a 1930s Berlin cabaret club... and hordes of disinterested German kids waiting for the next decent music.
