  • My friend and I were in U. S. Navy in 1961 near San Diego and he played Jimmy Reed on his record player for hours on end.He was from Birmingham ,Alabama and already enjoyed Reed's great harmonica and guitar licks.I got hooked on blues from that and only have 65 of Jimmy Reed's songs now. I listen to his songs often and still get blues with chills when I hear his guitar and harmonica licks.truely real blues. Respectfully , Old Ed

  • Thank you for talking the time to write ED.

Is'nt it wonderfull how he touched so many.

Jimmy Reed It was that guitar blues harp and wonderful voice.

  • Anytime - ReBeat. I can tell you love blues. You probably know but if not put a search on "the Blues Highway for some interesting blues information and maybe a chance to share your knowledge of Jimmy Reed's fame there too. ReBeat if anyone listens to Reed's songs "Cold Chills" and "High and Lonesome" they will hear some of his excellent harmonica and guitar blues licks.Practice good and when you can play and sing like that I'll drive the tour bus- deal - Respectfully Old ED

  • I first heard "Baby What You Want me to do" when I was 9, than my sister bought me an Harmonica with her first paycheck : now I'm 47 and I'm still under His spell.

    Happy Birthday Jimmy.

  • Yeah he has that effect on you. Thanks for diggin' the Reed

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY JIMMY REED SEPT 6 2007

  • Hey eveyone. Jimmy Reed is my grandfather!! YES! I praise God this is my heritage! -Phillip Reed

  • Let me hear an Amen for Jimmy Reed. Often imitated never duplicated. I hope your family is getting some of the money he should have gotten. Is it your Mom or Dad that his child?

  • Yes. My dad is Jimmy Reed Jr.

  • He taught me so much changed my life for the better and so I dedicate my life to turning people on to in my opinon the King of the blues. How is your Dad? Does he still play? I only wish they could have some how made a record with your Grandma, she sounds so nice in the background. Do you play music? Forgive all the questions Phillip. Meeting you is like Jimmy gave me a present on his Birthday what guy hu.

Please tell your Dad I just read the Bossman of the blues book and was blown away.

  • Dear Phillip (and anyone out there),

It's a shame there is not one single video clip of Jimmy playing on YouTube. Can you help? thank you kindly

  • .ooh, I'm totally not sure if there are any video clips of grand-daddy playing. I know if there are, I should have seen them by now, considering. If I come across one, I'll definitely post it!!!

  • There was one clip of Jimmy & Your Father Philip shot in 1976 Dallas Texas from a local TV station video not good quailty but it's Jimmy playing those important blues riffs.

It was in my favorites but I think it has been Deleted.

  • Phillip, in '63 I was blowin harp largely influenced by your grandad; had years of concerts sessions w Ambrosia, The Association, Andre Crouch, Chuck Girard, John Lee Hooker, Art Pepper. He was a hero to me.RIP

  • Wow!! Awesome!

  • I love this great artist...if you want to hear 'Boogie in the Dark'...go here go to my u-tube,several pages in you'll see a amtrack train.

  • T'aint no big thing but he is Jimmy Reed. Nice salute to an incredible artist.

  • One of the most influential blues singer of 50's and 60's. He had 14 charts hits from 1955-1966. Inducted into the Rock n roll Hall Of Fame in 1991.

  • Nice compendium of Jimmy Reed memoribilia type montages. Bright Lights, Big City was one of the early break throughs in Blues and set the stage for many who would follow. RIP indeed, and as of yesterday, RIP Freddy Fender as well, who laid the groundwork for Los Lobos's. All the early guys did their part and didn't always get their dues, but those who followed them knew they were the real thing.

  • Thank you I couldn't agree more Daddy O. It's my mission to help people realize the blues masters had something the imitator's don't. Well they didn't solo over everything for 1 thing.

  • Yea reb and thx for that memo dedicated to Mr. Reed it was time that someone makes that move and things from him are rare.I know him since 1976 and the only pic i have was that Chees Best of album cover. I remember the first day i heard him back then i played both records all night and 30 yrs later i still have the lps and it does the same effect, what a harp player. Just as an exemple that "Cradle of love" song intro still moves me.
