I would imagine, since the car is a classic, and probably the original engine, he would want to warm the engine up a little instead of throwing a rod through the engine, new cars not so much of an issue, old classics with 40 year old engine tech...that's a different story.

And my uncle always told me to let an engine do about 10 minutes warming up before you thrash it.

not so true. ive got a 68 Dart with the orginal slant 6. it fires up and can be revved no problem. carb may say other wise. but it aint bad. the older cars are actually the ones that are easier to deal. with. you can actually find the stuff in the engine bay that needs to be worked on. no ac boxeds and condensers and thundreds of feet of wire to fuck with
