I hate that roger looks like luffy and luffy's father is the most famous pirate around. It makes it seem like luffy was destined for greatness. It kinda takes away from the under dog element that some kid with no chance wants to find the greatest treasure in the world

Rayleigh~Dracule~=Zoro(no actual links between ray and zoro but the crew joining,dracule trained him,and shows a certain amount of care and devotion for zoro.And a defacto was his childhood)

Everyone in OP has a very complex story,the biggest complex is Luffy,of course.

This needs to be said right now and I know I will get bad press for this. As good as One Piece is...Luffy is the dumbest character ever! He didn't mature at all after the time skip and it seems no matter how old he is he is always a total dumbass outside a fight. Naruto and DBZ had some pretty childish characters but they at least grew up while still retaining some of their old personality. Luffy hasn't changed a single bit really which I think is a bad way to go for a protagonist.

@YouNube5 I know he is meant to be stupid but after 600 chapters and time skip with not even a slight tone down of it. That is just annoying. I know the main character can't be completely perfect. Naruto, Ichigo, and Goku aren't perfect but they grew up as the series went on. Luffy has been seen in three sections of his life and he hasn't grown up in maturity at all really from childhood to now.

@YouNube5 Maybe but still it just drives me nuts when the story progresses and seems to leave Luffy's brain in the dust. I think that is actually Oda's biggest downfall as an author. He knows how to make one hell of story with some memorable characters, but he doesn't really know how to develop them beyond on some basic characteristics. Where as Kishimoto has shown a major shift with Naruto. Naruto went from simple outcast. To a smart shinobi. Then finally an accepted and mature hero.

Naruto did grow. But, that's because he had problems in the the first place. His thing is more of a story. Luffys is more of an adventure. His personality quirks have changed a bit but he is still the same as at the beginning of the series. I would need to re-read a few chapters but it seems now that he can recognize what people are getting at or saying now. He also seems to recognize authority now. On Luffy you're pretty much right. But, the rest of the crew? I could argue for them.

@KazeAizen Luffy doesn't need to change. his simple mind, alongside his indomitable will and love for his crew are his greatest selling point and why the majority of his crew still follow him. If Luffy suddenly started taking everything seriously then he wouldn't be a very fun main protagonist in my opinion.
