  • If writers really wanted some return on their work, they should refuse to work for the publishers and studio system. Work independently, then you get to maintain creative control of your work and it's derivatives.

The corporations never should have fooled you into selling them your talents in the first place.

  • Writers lose so much, as if the money would never come, we are all supposed to show examples of Perseverence, thus I am not behind writers like those.

  • WHo lost during the strike? The answer the Amerian viewer because that is why we have so much stupid reality programing on instead of new ideas and we now watch the internet for new ideas!

  • A writer who is acting, should at least be reading good copy. This video is bad.

  • Looking back on this whole idiotic issue, they summed it up perfectly on South Park; trading real opportunities in the present for theoretical opportunities that may or may not exist in the future is fucking retarded. All the strike did was allow the WGA and their supporters to club themselves over the head, while maintaining the guise of doing something meaningful, and invoking the tired cliche of the underdog VS 'Big (insert something you dislike here).' Good job.

  • Labels

    Studios

    Publishers

No-talent hacks that Profit from the ability of others.

Frank is the best frank, that's ever happened to me.

  • I bow down before you, oh great Frank!!

  • Man, Ssssssshhh-Tubbbbbb!

Shoot that poison arrow through their hearts, Frank! Stick it to th' man!

  • I trust you paid for the rights to the song.

  • stop talking about "class" working class hero is a bullshit song! this is america! we dont do "classes" here, at least not till liberalism came along. everybody's got the same opporunities here nowadays, its not anyones fault but theirs if they dont study hard and work to achieve thier dreams and act responsably! The writers guild pussies should start thier own studios, then they can call their own shots!

  • Three cheers for Parellel Universe Man!

  • @ferdmert Sorry, we've had classes from the get-go. Read up on the history of the US, from indentured servitude onward there are always rich and poor. Not everyone gets the same opportunities either. Some folks are born rich, some are born poor. It's how life goes, so let's not pretend it isn't there, eh?

  • can't we be frank about frank? --- that was excellent ... he nailed it --- this sums up all labor / management show downs ... the decline of this country is in lock step with the erosion of the middle class (aka the backbone of this or any other country)

  • Press the button...

    Nice.

  • GO TV's FRANK!!

  • Aw, I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner - this was fantastic. Frank did a great job. "At least two of my five homes could be in danger if this strike goes forward..." Hilarious. I wish the writers had gained much more in the negotiations, but I'm glad they got something, anyway.

  • Frank rules!

  • Corporate greed! Maximum efficiency! Outsourcing! Profit!

Soon all the work will be done by chinese and indian children who will write 4 episodes for a nanocent and sign a scientology-like million year cross-generation contract for the BIG FACELESS STUDIO OF AMERICA

    (B.F.S.O.A!?) Ha- ha- ha! (-_-)

  • push the button frank

  • Yeah! It's T.V.'s Frank! His real name is Frank Coniff, not Moe Gaulle! He did Mystery Science Theater 3000, and he was also one of the head writers on Invader Zim for a while. But this is funny, because he's obviously making fun of studio executives. LOL!

  • dis is so gay because wat ever the hell this piece of shi strike is is gna cause wizards of waverly place to not show n.e more

  • Gas strike Fri. May 2. Please don't buy any gas on this day. We can cost "big oil" billions of dollars.

  • Hey! TV's Frank!

  • studios destroy creativity and individualism. almost every movie is extremely predictable and tv shows are worse. Every show just follows the same dumb format....just watch every show after surviver (a very successful show) EVERY SHOW IS BASED ON A "LOOSER GOES HOME" format...booring

  • I love you FRANK!!! You the man!!!!Inspired!!!

  • Is that TV's Frank!? Or at least as he's known on MST3K?

  • nm! Didn't watch it until the end :P before commenting

  • BrN420, meet Satire. Satire, BrN420. Take some time to get to know each other.

  • who ever that blonde FUck is hahaha dude ooo im gona lose my house take your money take your job those lil phansy glass's off your stupid face what you got nothing you probably couldent even survive we lil pep's we survive on a meesly 1000$ paycheak for 2 weeks with a morgage and bills you..... Coward try a real life.... for a week... i dare you.

  • um.. this is a joke.. the video clip that is.

  • they are doing well with negotiating now. they may end the strike on monday

  • Any job you take, you accept the pay they give you, or you don't. You negotiate before you take the job, accept the job as is, or do not accept and work elsewhere.

You do not accept a job, say you are unhappy and hold other people's livelyhood hostage to get what you failed to negotiate before you accepted the position.

That is just plain wrong, no matter how you try to justify it.

  • Blah blah blah, tired old argument that was put to bed along with the 'why shouldn't a plumber get paid every time someone flushes their toilet' one a long time ago. Do some reading. Learn about residuals and the last time the writers negotiated their contract. Learn what the internet means for the future of how media will be accessed, then come back to the 'table'. Please don't bother w/the 'all writers are millionaires' argument either. It's all been done to death by the AMPTP PR crew.

  • liz:"tired old argument"

Okay...how about that it is just plain wrong to put people who depend on your for a living, out of work.

If you have differences, resolve them without hurting other people. If you can't do that, and can't work out the differences, then leave.

  • what do I want to be that you went and voted Democrat today...because you "say" you care about others...then you are okay with putting innocent people out of work because you REALLY only care about YOU.

Is that a fairly painted picture?

  • Weeda,

It's not as simple as 'putting people out of work' b/c 'you have differences' w/your employer. When you can display that you understand that and the fundamentals of the strike I'll continue w/you.

  • liz:"When you can display that you understand that and the fundamentals of the strike I'll continue w/you. "

I do not care if you "Continue" with me or not.

Anyone who puts someone else out of work for their own greed is an evil jerk. You can not reason that away or justify the action. You have to look yourself in the mirror and someday, will have to explain to God.

    Good luck with all that.

  • You fail to understand that this is the whole negotiations process going on now. The contract governs all writing jobs, and they are negotiating on the terms by which they'll take the jobs.

The question isn't whether the jobs will be there. The question is the pay for those jobs that are there now, and for future new jobs.

It's only incidental that the writers' jobs affects the whole industry. It's a statement to the necessity for writers, because they are the creative minds behind all of it.

  • wiz:"It's only incidental that the writers' jobs affects the whole industry."

yeah...tell that to the people unable to feed their families.

You people are seriously screwed up in the head.

You can't justify putting people out of work for your greed. No matter how you try to candy coat it, it is still wrong.

Someday youm will have to face God and tell him why you chose the love of money over other people.

  • RIGHT ON!

Your comment perfectly augments my rant on "Top Ten Striking Writer's Demands" (CBS Letterman post.)

    By the way, I'm a pro-union 30-year Teamster.

  • This reply was to dougdangger

  • Frank Conniff, you are my hero.

  • lol, I thought this was serious at first. Pretty funny stuff. Go WGA.

  • He says, "Its a give and take. And the owners 'gave' the writers the opportunity to 'take' their demands off the table and the writers refused to do so."

That was my favorite line. Thanks for the laugh.

  • they're such divas, they're such prima donnas, that they really took umbrage when we tried to double cross them..." hilarious; thanks!

  • lol studio moguls the damaged party. that guy was crazy

  • After all, in today's world, we think about ourselves way too much. Put all those power and work to others to make their life better on both sides more, we'll never ever have any problem like this anymore.

Easy to say, hard to do. Think about all the money the studios will loss in this strike, they should act faster and give the writer what they deserve.

  • Amazingly funny joke. Well done, and you who wrote this deserve more than whatever you'll get back from the 50K views (so far).

  • I was getting pissed off and then I realized that this was a joke lol

  • what a phucking moron...

  • I thought this was real at first.

  • Its quite eveident that new laws have to be established because of the change in technology. The fact of the matter is, the entertainment industry will fall flat on its face without the writers

  • Maybe....then what will the writers do? Not like we are in a golden age of entertainment with or without the writers.

  • is this vid for real? the shit this guy is saying is so off the wall....that was like a dramatization of what is really happening rite? lol

  • It is satire.

  • Frank Conniff is gonna get shot on the streets of Hollywood! And mike and the bots will have to sing a song about him!

  • Owain27, Sorry,but you're mistaken re: unions. Obviously,your

grasp of labor and management history is, to say the least, desperately lacking. This has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with money. You are the perfect pawn for the corporations who stand behind the management in thir shawdows. So go back to your TV and continue turning your mind into mush

  • Unions have everything for the blame. They destroy small business. Also, thank them for HMOs, worse thing that could ever happen to medical care. China is become the new most power nation on earth. Look how they handle unions. It all comes down to who can make the best goods for the cheapest price. Unions stand in the way of companies making maximum profit, and then want to be payed more. Then get upset when everything moves to china. Hope this put all writes and their kids on the street.

  • Owain27 is dead on. Unions taken America from being the greatest producer of steel to Bethelem Steel now being an empty building. Unions got auto workers $72 hr avgerage pay w/benefits--of course 100,000s of them are unempoyed. Unions promised textile workers the world, then within 2 years J.P. Stephens was forced out of business. You can repeat this story with airlines, virtually every consumer good, and now showbiz.

  • Your analysis is so stupid!

There is no competition and the markets are controlled by the bosses, so there is no "Free Market" The CEO's and their advisors make all the rules and make decisions on how to keep personal profits high without having to share! The GM CEO decided that union labor was affecting his high paycheck and wanted his paycheck to go higher therefore he decided to move operations either south or overseas! Same with all the other industries!

  • no. I think camshaft and Owain27 are correct.Certainly not "stupid". What you say is a half truth at best.Based on what do you say any of that? Socialist gibberish from some crusty old beardy professor? Sorry but you simply don't have a grasp of the facts.

  • It is true that there are corrupt unions i.e. my uncle worked in a meat packaging plant and was a union rep. He decided based on consensus with his union, that the contract was no good. The UFCW International President took money from the Hormel plant and kicked my uncle out of the union and he was fired. All because he wanted safer standards. But that also incriminates Hormel as well! p.s. I definitely know for a fact that Naomi Klein does not have a beard!

  • @Owain27

You are missing a step there. Companies didn't move from the unionized US to overseas. They moved to "right to work" states and got rid of unions then with no organized labor to stop them they moved overseas. Unions were around for decades and we didn't lose jobs to China. This isn't a labor issue. In fact, it's labor that built up this country for the height of America's power. Look at the decline of unions and the related loss of jobs to overseas. More unions = more US jobs.

  • @pezdrake And let's not forget why unions came about in the first place. When workers started unionizing they were working in dangerous conditions where people frequently DIED. There was no job security - you could be fired just for being sick for one day - and on top of all that we had child laborers. Unions exist solely because business owners consistently failed to treat their workers like human beings. They brought unionism on themselves with their atrocious behavior.

  • Sorry I think YOU are wrong and I agree with Owain27. Even Hollywood goes out of the country to make their movies thereby getting around the unions. Unions are out for themselves, NOT the workers they repersent.Union strikes. Workers get what they want. Union dues go up. Corp goes overseas for the cheap labor to stay competitive.Corp wins, union still has its union and the workers loose their jobs.

  • You know what the funny thing is? While all this is going on, I'm just illegally downloading all their shit! It's win/win...but with losing!

    -Tabris

  • Fuck me...if THIS is too tongue-in-cheek for the 'youtube' generation, we're all screwed!

    Good job, though, guys!

Worker's rights! I SUPPORT THE WGA.

  • is this for real seriously?

    this guy is an idiot

  • Who said life is fair? Don't like the pay, find another job. Unions are the number 1 reason Companies are leaving the United States. Don't worry writers will change their tune, when they stop being able to feed their kids at night. They get some lower deal after the election. So glad they been all shut-up and can't effect the election. Does not effect me, Bill O and Rush are still on the air ways.

  • Don't like your employees being enraged and going on strike? Get into a different business because you're obviously not good at the one you're running now. Did I say running, I meant ruining.

  • Bill-O and Rush... (shudders) But yeah. The unions, like EVERY GROUP EVER, got too greedy and are screwing themselves over crap like this. Small royalty checks are not like child labor. The good fight's long over. Get over it.

Oh, and who among them are actually GOOD writers?

    -Tabris

  • You, sir, are a retard. Good Day!

  • TV's Frank is played by Frank Conniff. This guy is different. This guy's first name is Moe.

  • Look at the tags

  • I AM WITH WRITERS USA...WGA HOLLYWOOD

  • Greedy writers... this is the REAL disinformation.

    Non-sheep ftw.

  • Is that TV's Frank from Mystery Science Theater 3000?... I think it is!

  • it is indeed. He still has the same hairstyle even.

  • WGA just issued a releif fund for non wga members to help with our financial hardship due to this strike. Such as your house being lost , food , utilities , and medical benifits, ect.Check it out if you need the help info on( BTLNEWS,COM )under strike blogs... or if your a non wga member and need info seek out below the line magazine for info

  • WOOOOO... thats an amazingly bad recreation of working class hero. if you really wanna make a change for the better, start by the song.

  • you fool - that's the John Lennon original version - and I think Lennon would have been delighted for his song to be used in such a good cause. Keep fighting the good fight WGA.

  • Good satire.

  • funny vid. informative too.

  • I agreed with you up until the vote for ron Paula, what a fag.

  • ron Paula, good one.

  • I <3 WGA!

  • Great.

But the fact that some people are so stupid that they can't see irony unless it's coated with canned laughter. TV makes people stupid.

  • I am one of the people that support the strike.

  • haha moe gaulle. thats pretty clever, you should be a writer

  • He is, and a good one. His real name is Frank Conniff, aka TV's Frank of Mystery Science Theater 3000. Lover of fine doughnuts.

    Craig R.

  • Frank...one of the good ones. Just being frank about Frank.

    Craig R.

    and the strike continues.....

  • fuck the writers

  • You are retarded, basically your right to say things should be revoked, your tongue should be cut from your skull, and your fingers removed from your penis stroker

  • haha ...fucking writers got walked on.... you fucking pricks ...losers!!!

  • unfair! ..says the big bank account man living off the writer's idea :)

  • Ah, miss the good ole days when we'd leave these pinko union hacks in the river...Oh well, at least Leno, Conan & Jimmy Kimmel have the backbone to face down WGA greed.

  • Unionized labor is communist? O_o

I'm really sure Stalin and Mao loved for their workers to organize themselves and then go on strike.

I don't think you actually know what you're talking about. But it's ok.

  • apparently you didn't "get" this video.

    lol

  • I'm confused who is the real victim here? I mean he is at risk of loosing a few houses over a 0.04 raise and internet commissions. I am more then certain in this industry that writers are not the only one asking for a bigger cut of the funds these companies bring in (after all we have all experience inflation in prices in one way or another). I just can't after listening to this believe the writers are victimizing anyone. 0.04 to 0.08 a sell seems more then fair.

  • It's called Comedy...comedy... Has everyone lost their funny bone?

  • Notice the term "parody" in the tags...

    Jackass.

  • So if Frank is doing this, where's Dr F ?

  • ChristophProbst I AM WITH WRITERS USA...FOR ONE WORDL WONDERFUL...OF PEACE AND LOVE FOR ALL...

  • To Christoph:

They are actually asking for more in internet sales because they've been bound to a contract by the corporations regarding VHS/DVD media for more than 20 years, because they took an 80 percent cut in the 80s, which is still in effect for VHS/DVD. Since the internet is defined as a different media and are able to dispute it, they are using this chance to renegotiate to get 4 MORE CENTS. Oh snap. So greedy.

  • and the strike continues....

    Go TV's Frank !

  • Frank!! From MST3K!! :D :D :D

Turn your crank to Frank!! That spit curl just won't go away, will it?

  • i am with writers usa...

  • Why? This video is wrong - the studio DID offer to pay them for internet residuals! They offered to pay the same amount the writer's get for the dvds. That wasn't enough for them though. No, they are being greedy and want more. Screw the writers guild. I hope the other side holds tight.

  • ... is this a joke? The studios offered to pay them 250$ for the rights of their shows to be put online for a year. So... the studios offer to pay 250$ for reruns online, every year, and this is supposed to be a good deal? Honestly, if you worked to make something, and then someone asked you "will you give up your rights to it for $250" what would you say? How are the writers greedy?

  • Correction, according to the WGA, the studio is willing to pay them 4 cents for each show on the internet, which is the same price as that for dvds. This may not sound like a lot, but it really adds up fast. The WGA is actually satisfied for the 4 cents with dvds, but says they should have more with internet for the sole reason that it is less expensive to make. They don't take into account that dvds themselves aren't too expensive, its the labor.

  • Source please? I'll message you mine, they all keep citing the 250$ internet residual proposal, I'd like to see where, according to the WGA, they say that the studios are willing to pay more than 250$ per year.

  • ROFL!!!! This was just plain hilarious!!!

  • This was absolutely brilliant. 6 stars easily.

  • Excellent!

  • the last strike went on for 6 months and caused about 500 million dollars worth of damage. it could go on for a lot longer than that. and i bet the dvd prices will go up too. they had better fix this problem. i dont care how they do it:)

  • ... they were asking for 4 cents more for DVDs... I truly doubt asking for getting 4 more cents for each DVD sold is going to hike DVD prices. $19.99 is such an easy number, the stores won't charge $20.03 just to keep the same profits.

  • I will loose two out of five homes! Buhu!

    Greedy....

    I so support the strike

  • I dont think you get this video.

  • what don't I get?:S

  • Its a joke... The whole thing is a mockumentary.

  • ah, got it like... three hours ago (XD)... I'm slow at understanding things sometimes..

  • hahaha all good my friend! I wasnt sure if he was serious or not when I first watched.. then i went through it again and did a research on the guy ;)

  • hahah philip seymour hoffman could totally spoof this

  • And the strike goes on.

Go TV's Frank ! Mystery Science Theater 3000 rules !!!

  • Nice mocumentary response ShootFirstInc. Touche.

Y'all captured a feeling the "F-you AMPTP- you dirty simpering fat bastards" we all have bouncing about our subconscious while we walk those 9.000 steps daily during a AM or PM shift.

    Cheers.

  • Go writers! Stories are important! More important than the sadistic thrill I get from reality shows that exploit people being cruel and petty towards one another. Stories introduce characters we care about, values that we strive for, and above all shines the light on possibilities. In fact, instead saying this here, I should be saying this to the studios...so....if you guys will excuse me...

  • go writers! get what you deserve! All of us here are watching videos on the internet right now- soon we'll watch all our shows this way too. Don't you think people should get paid for making that content? Would you do your job for free? We pay 1000 for a television, a 100 a month for cable and studios make billions off ad revenue. Pay the writers.

  • This is some funny shit.

  • That guy is such a douche. "2 out of my 5 homes are in jeopardy." Get over it douchebag, some people have no where to live.

I'm still pissed at the writers though. I want my shows back dammit!! LOL

  • this guy is such an actor... You realised that right?

  • duh. What is sad is that I know people like the douchebag the guy was portraying.

  • I hope this strike continues it keeps all these suck ass shows off the air and hopfully by the time its over all the fickle people that watch them will have forgotten about them and maybe just maybe something new will be created on tv worth watching.

  • Every thing on the internet should be free, every thing on phones should be free. it's stupid you should have to pay for downloads on the internet and for features on phones. you have to buy a product then buy another thing to make the product work. its a rip off

and the guy with blond hair in the video is greedy he's got five houses and the writers probably have one. its sad

  • If everything is offered for free, what is the incentive for creating new content?

  • He is Comedian/actor Frank Coniff, aka TV's Frank from Mystery Science Theater 3000. This video is meant to be a joke. He is also a writer.

  • all i am f-ing know is that they are messing up my shows. i need my entertainment. two of my shows ended 1/2 way through and one may not even have their last season. these writers get paid all this f-ing money and yet they still arent happy? BIG DEAL. and i get there are 2 sides to every story but im on the studios' side. the writers can stay on their strike and make their own stupid books. i for one wont be reading them.

  • tpoazeyes1901, you hit the nail on the head. The one that suffers the most from this srtike are the fans ! Watch for DVD prices to go up when this is all over and done with too.

    Craig R.

  • Wow. You so don't get it, do you? Perhaps if you did read a little more, you'd understand what's going on here.

  • The writers could form their own independant company. Whenever you work for someone else, you always get shortchanged in one way or another. Unions are fine, until managment outsources your job.

    Craig R.

  • When TV & Film writers "start their own independent company" and write independently, then they still have to sell to guild signatory networks & studios bound by collective bargaining agreements with DGA, SAG, AFTRA, IATSE, & WGA, etc., i.e. union. Nothing is forcing people to watch union programming. Turn on a documentary. Watch shows without any known actors in them. Sometimes they are better. Most of the times they are not.

  • How cool is this?

  • fantastic, a lot of people will see this because it is entertaining, lets make this viral.

  • fuck the status quo

  • Check out the doo on Frank !

  • I love satire :D

  • LOL!

Yep...there's two sides to every story, right?

Well done! Thanks for the laugh!

  • Awesome... "They're going to have to start flyin g commercial." Studio execs, the poor Bastards.

Good on the writers for striking, get what you deserve.

  • Let these overpaid writers stay on strike forever! Most of what is written these days is JUNK anyhow..There are plenty of reruns we all can watch!

  • Stay on strike forever! Television sucks and I hope people get encouraged to live their lives and not be zombies !

  • who cares if ppl live like zombies as you say. its their freaking lives. tired of these comments about tv zombies. i only watch about 5 hrs of tv a week am i a zombie. man i think alot of strikes are dumb anyway. no real cause here to me. just seems they want more money. man ill just sit back an wait for another athletic strike too.

  • i agree television sucks but without writers there will not be:

movies or musicals, Entertainment on every level.

  • No, there will be if their passion is to WRITE, not make as much as these "movie" stars. IF your passion is to be a writer, making money should not be your issue, getting your writing out there should be enough.

  • as quoted in Cabaret "Money makes the world go round." Everyone wants to make money.

I agree with the strike. During the strike why arent a lot of them writing books.ehh

  • Give all these writers the sack and hire bums from the street, they got good story and they need money lol. Get back to work so i can get my free tv!

  • "at least 2 of my 5 homes might be in danger"

"reality television, let's face it folks, the way of the future"

    lol!

  • These writers have lucrative jobs and fame that most writers only dream of. Most of them are not that talented, in my opinion. I can write better stuff that these jokers. Now they want more money ? For what ? They could flip freakin' burgers for all I care!

    Craig R.

PS: Go Frank ! Mystery Science Theater 3000 rules ! Now THAT was good writing!

  • you have no idea what you are blathering about.....

if you want to submit better material do it....and remember you won't get paid for the millions of uses they will take with it.

  • I agree with the strike 110%

This may be a turning point in cinematic history, where projects are no longer rushed into production, and we see a new wave of amazing new writers come in. With the exception of a dozen movies, there has been nothing but Shite on our cinema screens for the past two years, i see a change coming

  • TV's Frank!

  • This is SARCASM you morons. The writer's aren't getting paid for a product they create and you have the nerve to say they should keep entertaining us for no money. Way to go you greedy assholes. Geez.

  • I hate writers who think they can use a joke in any dialog to spice things up. Do you understand that not everybody communicates this way? I can't stand it when Hollywwod oppresses the workers. I ask the proletariet to intervene.

  • Hollywood hires thousands of writers.

However, most Americans can't write (or read).

Which is why they hire Canadians.

We control your country, dudes and dudettes.

And we want you to eat brown rice and tofu!!!

  • LOL! But I thought you dudes were into doughnuts and beer, eh?

  • I guess if you didn't know who the guy in the video is you may not pick up on the fact that this is satire.

Of course and Mystie would get it right away.

    Craig R.

  • Doughnuts and beer? Ugh! What a nasty combo!

    Craig R.

  • i cant believe this dude is saying this... ughh!! i 100% suport the writers

  • It's satire. He's not serious dear. LOL

  • Writers need to get their ass back to work, they should worry about entertaining their viewers not money.

  • It was difficult enough to get the major broadcasters to put these shows out on the internet in the first place. If the cost of streaming, including royalties, becomes greater than the value of streaming-shows-as-advertising, they will be pulled, and the consumers will be the ones losing out.

I have no comment, really, on film writers. I do agree that the writers should see royalties on DVD sales. *GOOD* writers already see royalties as Proucers, however.

  • Meh. Excepting that the studios DO NOT MAKE A PROFIT on downloads. This is why NBC removed shows from ITMS. A single company advertising on a stream page pays, at best, for the cost of bandwidth (assuming a mid to high-quality stream, a single episode of, say, CSI, can require tens of terabytes of bandwidth monthly).

  • please support our writers.

  • today a chicken scratching is better writing...

Take a look at the crap they put out...

  • wow that guy is an embarrassment to my culture as an American.

  • and you're an embarrassment to my culture as an American for not realizing that was totally an act.

    Sigh.
