Best thing to do is to ask a Chinese friend or host how much things usually go for, in fact, take them shopping with you. Go into a store separately, pick out what you want and then signal your chinese friend or host that is the one you want and how much you are willing to spend max, then let them bargain for u. Don't let on that you two are together.

What happened there does not surprise me. When I went to Mexico, I went to a market similiar to that one. Salesclerks were coming out and trying to convince me to purchase their goods but they NEVER touched me. They desperately need money. I sure hope you never bought a COACH purse because those little places sell fake knock offs

haha, actually we did buy a few knock-off coach purses there. We knew they were fake, and we got them for $15 US a piece.
