The 180SX originally game with the 1.8l CA18DET. It wasn't until later that they replaced the CA with the 2.0l SR20DET. It's actually fairly common to see car companies retain the original model number even after the engine is upgraded to a larger displacement (such as the E46 BMW series and the 350z/G35).

@TheLizardKing1967 wrong... the first Z produced was in late 68 before your Z28, MR.K the head of the production team got the name Z from Fairlady Z, and the motor is a 2.4L Inline 6, giving it the name the 240z. Try getting facts before being ignorant ;)
