  • FUCK IT, When I seen the video title I thought he had shot himself.

  • Jon Stewart nearly killed me!! I almost choked to death on my coffee laughing!!

  • This, and the Chatroulette coverage last year, are my favourite clips EVER.

  • im sorry this might be partisan but the right wing has become a huge joke. its really really sad...

  • @Gwarthie Oh sure, I mean he's a smart guy, and as such knows that fundamentalist anti-theists are just as horrible as religious fundamentalists. I happen to know many atheists who don't blindly dismiss all religion as bad, just like me. :)

  • @twsx

"fundamentalist anti-theists are just as horrible as religious fundamentalists"

Ah yes, the horrible anti-theists, torturing & burning "witches", flying planes into skyscapers, declaring holy wars, killing nonbelievers, forbidding love marriages, bombing abortion clinics, indoctrinating children, committing suicide bombings...

Im not saying religious ppl are always bad, and none religious always good, but if you compare the worst of both groups, dont pretend they are equally bad.

  • @Jonathanizer What did you expect? Religion has been around since the dawn of times. Atheism has only really been strong for ~50 years, and still has had time to bring us Communism and Nazism...

  • @truffyt

Whats Atheism got to do with Nazis and Socialism? I think you're either very uneducated, or desperate to smear. btw u can be religious and a Nazi/comunist. Hitler was catholic, just a prominent example. One stupid ideology doesnt necessarily contradict the other stupid ideology. The reason why proponents of Nazi/Comunism are not conceived to be very religious is, that most can devote only to one stupid dogmatic system at once. Atheism is based on reason, those ideologies arent.

  • @Jonathanizer You can't truly believe in the extreme ideologies and still belong to one of the Abrahamic religions. You can claim that you do, but then you are not truthful. Hitler was not a Catholic, thank you very much. It is widely considered that he was a atheist. The reason I blame atheism for Nazism and Communism is that you blame religion for all that happened in history. If you claim that just because people were religious back then is enough to tie religion to all bad things, then...

  • @Jonathanizer ...Hitler and Lenin being atheists must surely mean that atheism is to blame for our political extreme ideologies? Not to mention that you should by the same logic attribute all good things, like new inventions to religion if they were invented in a time when people were religious.

  • @truffyt

    1. Hitler was catholic, fact.

    2. Hitler & Stalin also had noses in the middle of their face. Are now their noses now the reason for their extreme ideologes? No. Unless you can conclusively tie atheism to extreme ideologies - which you wont be able to - two things appearing at the same time arent necessarily causing each other.

    3. Looking at aspects like devotion to authority, dogmatism, secrecy, violence against opposition - religion had much more in common with Nazi/Comunism.

  • @Jonathanizer Hitler was far from being a Catholic, the very notion of it is quite entertaining. Why don't you take some time to read about his "positive Christianity"? That's the closest you can come to link Hitler to Christianity, and your still as far of as if you would attempt to tie a Mormon to Christianity. You can't tie religion to the bad ideas of Nazism or Communism. The best you can attempt to tie to them is the human representatives of religion, and pretty much all religions teach...

  • @Jonathanizer ... that humans are not perfect, that they can do wrong. If you could find any concrete support for political extremists in the Bible, then you could kind of tie Christianity to them. But there isn't any. The best you can do is tie a very limited number of priests to it, and besides from not being representative of Christianity by virtue of the low number of them that are even relatively close, it would also be like accusing a vaccum cleaning company of murder when one of its'...

  • @Jonathanizer ... salesmen observed a murder occur without stopping it.

  • @truffyt

    4. You are aware, that they prosecuted scientists for contradicting the church by claiming the earth isnt flat and stuff like that. Attributing any scientific progress like inventions to the church is like attributing Jew births during Nazi Germany to Hitler. If it happened, that someone invented something during that time, it was not BECAUSE but DESPITE the church. The churchs preferred answer to everything: "God did it, and dont ask again."

  • @Jonathanizer Yet again, the best you can hope to accomplish is to link a few representatives to ill deeds. And as mentioned, humans are not perfect, they can act wrongly.

  • @truffyt

First, I'm not sure if I am an atheist, but I have yet to find a philosophy to satisfy my spiritual needs without insulting my intelligence, so I have no other choice than to think for myself and stick to science alone.

Secondly, Atheism is not as widespread as religion was in the middle ages, atheists are in most countries dominated by the local religion, Christianity in western hemisphere, Islam in Arabia, Persia, Hinduism in India and so forth.

  • @truffyt

    4. Regarding that Vatican-quote, I didnt know that. Doesnt change the general tone of a discussion, religious usually people dont care about the earth as much as people who think this life matters more because its our only one. But thanks for the info, good to know the Vatican guys are at least showing good will, do they actually do something about the problem with their influence, or is that sentence all? However, religion is still more often than not anti-science.

  • @Jonathanizer What can they do about global warming? Europe has already pretty much understood it, the Chinese and Indians hardly care about the Pope, and as much as American presidents love to get photographed together with him, they wouldn't even consider acting like he suggests in any way, be it peaceful against other countries, corporate greed, or in regards to global warming, etc.

  • @truffyt

Well there is lots of things they can do about global warming. I'm quite satisfied that they even identify the problem, which is in my view a step forward. But still the Vatican has influence, a lot in South America and Africa for example. But instead of raising awareness about this the pope explains in Africa how "condoms increase the probability of contracting the HI virus." His argument being that if you are abstinent or at least monogomous, you wont get the virus. -.-

  • @Jonathanizer For some reason, I don't think they consider it fair to demand that the Third world takes steps against global warming when they would seriously affect their already low standards of living, as opposed to the Western world that has the ability to take bigger steps against global warming at a very small cost, but won't because it's not fun to get on a bus to work, as opposed to the new car we buy once a year.

  • @truffyt

Its a myth that a green economy can not be effective. Ecological measures create jobs, because somebody has to produce and install the filter on your factory, in the end its a zero sum game. The only problem is, the loosers in this game (factory owners) have better lobby than the winners (environmental services), and they will convince politicians not to implement this regulations. If Africa would be stable, you could easily build thriving economies with green standards.

  • @truffyt

But the problem is, that the whole region is not stable, not that green economics would be to expensive, the circumstances are not right. Now I dont say Aids is to blame for that, but a plague like that certainly doesnt help, and instead of contributing to improve the peoples situation with their influence, the church makes it worse by sticking to their dogma. And their thinking isnt "ecological improvements are too expensive", they unfortunately just have other priorities.

  • @truffyt

With the condom issue and with the sexual repression of catholic priest which may attract the wrong personnel and a string of other things have the same problem: organized religion puts dogmata, believe & obidience in the key concepts above reason, above logic, often even above basic morals. Religion gives an incentive for moral behaviour, as long as we're not talking about ppl who believe in competing ideas. Thats why more often than not religion has a harmful influence.

  • @truffyt

    5. As for your last and I assume main argument that imperfect human beings may misrepresent a positive belief in because they're prove to personal flaws:

That may be, and of course it can happen. Personal misbehaviour or mistakes often enough cast a slur on a good thing. Then again in many cases organized religion is not victim of randomly occuring human failure, but has its own structural design that attracts those immoral or evil behaviour.

  • @truffyt

I give you one current example (its a prominent amongst many). The way a jobdecription is designed, with all that secrecy, personal responsibility and sexually repressive provisions (no marriage, no masturbation): it attracts pedophiles. Now sadly there is black sheep everywhere in social life, but even more so amonst priests because of the set up system they operate in. Now this doesnt prove god doesnt exist, but is shows how dogmata instead of reason can enable bad behaviour.

  • @truffyt

    5. I'm not the biggest fan of monumental buildings and old paintings, and other than that there isnt much that religion contributed, besides psychological services of course. And this is certainly not enough to make up for the many evil things like violence and the dark ages with their anti-science politics. Who knows where we would be today if science and progress would not have been halted by the church for a thousand years.

  • @Jonathanizer Oh bollocks! How can you possibly claim that when a thing occurs in times of widespread religion, it has nothing to do with religion unless it's a bad thing, but if anything occurs when atheism is widespread, it's the opposite? Such bloody hypocrisy...

  • @truffyt

    3. Even if it would be widespread doesnt mean it is as responsible for bad deeds as christianity was in the middle ages. Is didnt contribute to those extreme ideologies. Meanwhile, organized religion actively supported feudalism, made it possible, took part itself, gave justification and active political support for this system. Because the bible is ok with slavery... claiming the world isnt flat wasnt okay, but a human owing another human being was okay.

  • @truffyt

So there is no hypocrisy in closely looking at how much two occuring events actually are connected. The extreme ideologies of dictatorships had enabled autocratic behavioural patters in society that are much closer to those in religious society than in societies of religious freedom. Thus you cant tie atheism to it. Correlation isnt always causality. But because of the activities of religious institutions, christianity did in fact contribute to the bad things in the dark ages.

  • @truffyt

    6. If things were going according to the church, we would not be talking over the internet, we would be farmers and serve our feudal king/prince/baron/...(by the grace of god) as thralls and would have no scientific progress at all. And it goes on until today, the church hinderes eg fighting climate change by claiming its a hoax... which will delay solutions and therefore damage all our health through worsened living conditions and possibly endager our whole species.

  • @Jonathanizer "We call on all people and nations to recognize the serious and potentially reversible impacts of global warming caused by the anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants". That's what the Vatican had to say about climate change. But I suppose it's easier for you to debate if you don't have to stick to the truth, like Fox News. Furthermore, can you tie Christianity to the feudal institution, or is it representatives of it that you can tie to feudalism?

  • I miss his impression of Cheney so much!

  • This my fav skit ever

  • This is one of the best Daily Show segments of all time.

  • he thanks jesus.. thought he was a jew

  • @v4lkyr He is. Just a small switch for the sake of the joke, and hey, it worked. Besides, my best guess is that he's an atheist anyway.

  • @twsx Fairly certain he isn't, believe he has talked about his more liberal views in regards to theology a few times.

  • @Gwarthie Not sure what you mean. "more liberal views in regards to theology" - Just because someone is an atheist does not mean he doesn't have "liberal views in regards to theology". Atheist is not anti-theism.

  • @twsx True, of course, but he seems to assert that religion has its place in society and does good in it as well. Can't say I've met many atheists that share that respect, though I'm sure there are many. Of course, as far as I know he hasn't really spoken on his own beliefs in detail, but he does seem to call out the American Atheists quite a few times, as well as religious extremists. I guess it's hard to say for sure.

  • haha he was seasoned

  • omfg lol it hurts im laughing so hard XD

  • I love the metaphor

  • @TheOfficialSyndrome Dick is going hunting for Metaphors sometime soon in africa ..STAY TUNE FOR MORE WIZZ BANG FUNNY

  • "quails 1 america 0, happy?" LOL

  • Great to see bits of his older shows; I only started watching him a couple of yrs back & been hooked ever since. Thanks for the upload!!

  • To be honest I think the only explination of aim that poor is that he, along with the rest of the hunting party, was drunk. I'm not trying to make a joke, he only came out and said anything after the fact a full sixteen hours later which to me seems suspicious considering that he was the Vice-President. This also indicates that it may very well have been an accident, one that could have been easily avioded but an accident none the less. No excuse for irresponsiblity on this levle though.

  • you no he was trying to kill that dude no ones that bad with a gun not even women

  • @kingjaja50 That's just ridiculous. A US VP doesn't need to get his hands dirty in order to remove an unprotected individual from the face of the earth. Nor would I see any reason for him to shoot the guy. Also, about your sexist comment; You're one of those guys who will be hella surprised when women overtake us men in areas that until now were domains of patriarchy. It's going to happen. And it sure is time.

  • @twsx lol i was referring to a girl i shoot with, shes small and never has shot a weapon before it wasn't that she was a women but her size is what worried me but every weapon i threw at her she handled them like it was nothing she could control the weapons very well even in full-auto and don't even get me started on how she hunts. i actual laughed when you mention sexist. i don't expect people to take what i say to heart on youtube i would expect you to think about what i could mean by that.

  • @twsx when i was saying he was trying to kill him i just said because i don't like cheney when i said not even women are that bad i was talking about my friend but its alot to say in a comment as you can see so i just said that.

  • @twsx They were hunting quail whose wings were clipped and they were in the car while hunting. It couldn't have been an accident.

  • @twsx maybe he just shot him to sow off

  • @twsx - It's not if you think about Dick's personality. He probably did it to teach the guy a lesson to never cross him again.

  • @twsx maybe he lost control of his feelings and acted on his instinct to kill !!!

  • @twsx

Yup women shall soon dominate us indeed..i mean just look at the Wmba! each of them are as good jordan!!! just no ones their to see thier games..except the ref...not even thier coach shows up... they have 1 fan..and a ref...yea i dont think theyll dominate us anytime soon

  • @kingjaja50 My mom actually has a pretty good aim.

  • YOUR FACE!

    GODDAMMIT!

  • wait for it............wait for it ! OMG HILARIOUS !! reality really is the best material !

  • it is the event stewart was waiting for to poke fun at all his life

  • Really poor gun handling. Sadly a trait that persists among some hunters. The guy probably just didn't donate enough. What you don't give me now, you pay later as hospital bills.

  • i think they saw a Family guy refferance

  • This news that hit was hilarious. what made me laugh more when george bush dodge the shoes. i laugh hard cause its rare to see these things on the news. my mother didnt like cuz it was an insult but come on.

  • I always come back to this vid when I need to laugh. God this funny!

  • "To not have shot his friend in the face would have sent a message to the quail that America is weak!"

    Hilarious! XD

  • This was back when the show was more parody than satire like The Onion, nowadays it's much more truthful and at the same time it's even smarter and funnier

  • "While the quail turned out to be a 78 year old man...."

  • if this were a black man who did this they would have been facing 20 to life since it was dick cheney he would get a raise like mother fucking rasist cock suckers hiding behind jesus using faith as their leverage

  • lol the minute I first heard about this incident I thought "Oh what the Daily Show is gonna do to this!" Also to those flaming about this video, calm down. The guy survived and everyone is happy, so get a sense of humor. I myself am a Republican and I still laughed my ass off at this when t first aired.

  • Love this clip- you couldn't write such a ridiculous event- total gift for Stewart et al.

  • @TylerSPS18 You're absolutely right. This is no laughing matter. A right wing, racist, bush-endorsing ass hat could have died, but survived. It really is sad.

  • @twsx I can't stand Dick Cheney but your characterization of the victim is false; you are a pretentious moron and a worthless pos.

  • @twsx LMFAO =)

  • @twsx My god !!we could have lost a great man,we are so fortunate that he is well.

  • @twsx

You know what else is sad? Wishing death on someone.

  • @twsx right WING? haha get it? get it? :O

  • @TylerSPS18 -Have you ever been bird hunting ? Think my friend, Cheney aimed at a bird which had to be at close range and shot his friend ? Did he drop his gun, trip over it, what really happened ? Imagine the fun the right wingers would have had if the situation were reversed ?

  • @urparanoia Cheney was obviously taking the fall for George W Bush, who freely admitted he fainted and fell on the floor while trying to watch football and eat pretzels at the same time. If Bush could not do that, you can imagine what would happen when he hunted small birds with a gun.

  • @etbella3 - You may be onto something.

  • @urparanoia When you say "if the situation were reversed," sir, do you mean: if the QUAILs had the gun and accidentally shot Cheney in the face? Explain, please.

  • @almishti-"Imagine the fun the right wingers would have if the situation were reversed"

I was speaking of what conservatives would have said if it were a democrat who shot one of their own

  • this is the best sketch on the daily show ever, except perhaps the one about Dick Cheney talking to Darth Vader

  • Wow Peppered, how the hell do you pepper some one with a gun.

  • Probably one of best skits on the show ever
