An interesting piece of trivia to pass on...The Standells were NOT from Boston! In fact, they had never even been to Boston before cutting this record. All the lyrics are based on what other people told them about Boston. Indeed, at one time, there was a curfew of 12 midnight for all female college students to be back in their dorms...and the male students did not have any such curfew...hence, the "frustration"!

Well, all I could find on Ed Cobb, who wrote and produced "Dirty Water" is that he attended Hollywood High School, where he and 3 other guys formed the Four Preps in the '50s.They had a hit in '58 called 26 Miles (Santa Catalina). After he left the group he wrote songs like "Tainted Love," (Gloria Jones, later covered by Soft Cell)"Every Little Bit Hurts" (Brenda Holloway), "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" and more for the Standells, etc. Was he from Boston? Somebody's gotta know!
