  • The birth of Punk Rock started with the Standells

  • @milbury55

yeah and religion started with the mormons twit

  • This was always the coolest song from the 60's....and it still is ! Thanks for sharing : )

  • An interesting piece of trivia to pass on...The Standells were NOT from Boston! In fact, they had never even been to Boston before cutting this record. All the lyrics are based on what other people told them about Boston. Indeed, at one time, there was a curfew of 12 midnight for all female college students to be back in their dorms...and the male students did not have any such curfew...hence, the "frustration"!

  • @kvernon1 That inspires me as a songwriter!

  • Before Neil Diamond's "Caroline," "Dirty Water" was Boston's song.

  • When the video started i though it was george harrison on day tripper promo xD

  • BOSTON!!!!!!

  • i love how they are taking the piss out of miming great cut from NUGGETTS

  • ohh PRESTON your my home! thankyou the lancashire torreador!! great song!

  • The Standells were from San Francisco

  • From LA, but one of 'em was visitng a schoolie friend in Boston. He had such a great time he wrote the song. WMEX 1510 am "The Knight Train Show" 8-10 PM with Arnie Ginsburg got it out on the air waves. Dig it!!! I like "1,2,3,4,5,6,,Roadrunner, Roadrunner" by Jonathan Richman also. He is from Boston area Natick I think. No??

  • @salvyg arnie "woo woo" ginsburg... haven't heard that name in a long time

  • arguably the greatest garage band song in history. tied with g-l-o-r=i-a!

  • cool.....

  • Anybody remember from way back when that there was supposed to be a "dirty" version of this song? Hell, it was probably tame by today's standards. But this kind of music will kick ass forever!

  • Comment removed

  • too bad the red sox suck.

  • @bbri1991 too bad no one loves you

  • wow total screw up on the lip syncing great song but that video sucked

  • oh how i love boston...nothing like a little feces mixed with your tap water. mmmmm

  • This has special meaning now that Boston is under a boil order (4/1/10)

  • So appropriate today!!!

  • I defy anyone to not get chills down their spine the second they hear that immortal riff.

  • @problem49 you are spot on--this is one of the greatest no bullshit, ass-kickin' tunes of all time!!

  • @problem49 This song always is a treat to hear after every Bruins win!!!

  • @tallicdeth Congratulations to Boston on a well-deserved Stanley Cup. Not everyone in our beautiful city is a rioting goon, and most of us are deeply embarrassed about the game seven riot.

  • @problem49 I know not all of them are...it's just a shame that thousands felt they needed to! There's a reason the term "assclown" was created.

  • @tallicdeth Agreed. I would personally love to tatoo ASSCLOWN onto the forehead of every single one of the shitheads that chose to run rampant and disgrace our great city. Fuck them and the piss-poor parents that supposedly raised them.

  • Oh Boston you're my home!

  • Actually a very stupid video. NOBODY looks like they're actually playing or singing.

  • @unclebobunclebob pretty sure that was the point... punk rock forerunners here

  • GO SOX SO SEA DOGS (Portland maine i live)

  • OHHH I LOVE THAT DIRTY CHARLES, MYSTIC, and MERRIMACK RIVER, til death do us part!

  • I don't know shit about The Standells, but why does 80% of this video focus on the drummer?

  • @lednails I think he's the singer too

  • @lednails CUZ HE IS ALSO THE LEAD VOCALIST

  • could they have made it any more obvious that they were lipsynching and not playing their instruments? The drummer doesn't drum, scratches his nose, etc. Would have been better if they just did the lipsynch, minus the non played instruments.

  • Standells' "Dirty Water", Boston's Back Bay, Combat Zone with lovers muggers & thieves, home of Berklee College of Music, love it! WOW!

  • Go sox!!!1

  • Cool. He stops playing the drums and the beat just keeps on goin'. These guys are really good.

  • I LOOOOOVE this video. Dirty Water! Boston you're my forever home!

  • Comment removed

  • OOh Boston your my home! Go Sox!!

  • It never gets old. WRKO. WMEX--Massachusetts FOREVER!!

  • OOH BOSTON YOUR MY HOME!!

  • AHHH SISSY-I can't believe you are gone-we listened to so much music together-be at peace and in no more pain my sweet angel sister-I will forever remember-your only sister-Butch(to you)

  • massachusetts!

  • In 1968 I was 8 years old. A compilation LP called KIRL Super Hits found its way into my house. It had tons of good tunes on it, but this song (and The Seeds' "Pushin' Too Hard") was the one that grabbed my psyche and let me know for sure that rock 'n' roll was indeed going to be an inextricable part of my future existence. Maybe I related to it because it said to me "This is who I am. Don' tread on me. If you can't accept me as I am, get out of my way and leave me alone" in a positive way.

  • Greatest Song Ever!!!

  • Descaradisimo el playback jajajajaja

  • Do you think they are lip-syncing this song??

  • Is the Pope a catholic?

  • @takemeback70s -- Back then on TV appearances, bands almost always lip-synced.

  • That's where you'll find me!!!

  • GO RED SOX in 2010!.........Love all you dudes especially Jacoby Ellsbury and Jed Lowrie!

  • namesake :)

  • NOT from Boston, but LA!! Just found out after listening to the band for 25yrs. The obvious Boston reference within this tune is wrong lol

  • I think the guy that wrote the song was from Boston - most people in LA in those days were from somewhere else

  • Well, all I could find on Ed Cobb, who wrote and produced "Dirty Water" is that he attended Hollywood High School, where he and 3 other guys formed the Four Preps in the '50s.They had a hit in '58 called 26 Miles (Santa Catalina). After he left the group he wrote songs like "Tainted Love," (Gloria Jones, later covered by Soft Cell)"Every Little Bit Hurts" (Brenda Holloway), "Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White" and more for the Standells, etc. Was he from Boston? Somebody's gotta know!

  • Well, he ceartainly wrote a few "hit" songs & I remeber "26 Miles" from way back when my parents still "controlled the radio" before my brother hit his teen years!!

  • nervous drummer BUT so the fuck what, it's the tune that matters. Spot on cool

  • nervous? He's having a blast and only making a half-assed attempt at lip-syncing. This whole thing is a joke to these guys...

  • Strange as this may sound but the drummer in this video (Dick Dodd) is the reason I learned to play guitar - he was a friend of my older brother back in '62 (befor this band) & also played guitar

  • @MrJsmith49 that's cool. were you in a band yourself, back then? Andy, Liverpool, England.

  • No, not until I got intio High School. I couldn't find anyone else who played guitar & then The Beatles arrived & pretty much everyone "owned" a guitar. Fun times, for sure.

  • hahaha, I discovered this song in a porn vid! Great porn, great song!

  • @Wierdoinc was it a porno with the red sox fuckin the yankees in the 2004 alcs?

  • @mercuryrulz hell yeah!!!

  • @mercuryrulz Was it a porno when A-Rod tried screwing the Red Sox by slapped Arroyo's hand like the little pussy that he is?

  • @Wierdoinc i want a link to that! this has been my favorite song all my life. I love Boston.

  • @Wierdoinc

It was one amateur vid of a girl blowing??

  • @diegoc137 Yes!

  • @Wierdoinc I cant believe how porn became so powerfull...and I discovered it because of that video too

  • @Wierdoinc haha WTF ? good times

  • @Wierdoinc Considering the song, I somehow doubt that.

  • @Xaymot It is no lie!

  • You cannot compare American Idol to this classic stuff! Who cares if there's music put over this video??? I just love hearing the song!

  • these guys are naturals for tv!

  • Comment removed

  • lip sinking & faking it!!

  • This video is putting the song over a recording of them performing. The video had the voices erased and the person had the song recording placed over it.

The person who posted it did this to allow people to hear the song version without having it deleted from YouTube for copyright infringement.

  • well I am glad the yankees won the world series. It tells the whole league exactly how much it costs to win a world series! If thats the way you want to win then congrats.

  • Neville 6000 to even mention American Idol on this post is a crime! most of the contestants do not have a creative bone in their body, what would happen if the modern day equivalent of Bob Dylan or John Lennon turned up to auditions? they wouldn't even get past the front door. The least important part of a great song is the actual singing. Grow up & stop giving shite airtime!!!

  • I'm not defending American Idol, I'm just saying that at least the contestants sing-more that what they allowed on a show like this. Give me Saturday Night Live, Soul Train, The Old Grey Whistle Test, MTV Unplugged, or The Midnight Special over any show with the lip synch on it.

  • Because people never lip synch on SNL....

  • As far as I know...

  • Ashley Simpson.
