@24BaneDarth The tempos aren't "too fast." Who are YOU to say that the conductor of an all-state choir, someone who has gone through 8 years of college, has made a mistake in their interpretation. When YOU conduct this piece, take it at whatever tempo YOU like. But until then, don't criticize the decisions of respectable people.
My choir director/music teacher said that we are going to sing this song in my High School Chamber Choir, which is just a fraction of 24 people from 115 people that are in the Complete Choir. So we have to learn the same songs as the big choir as well as at least 6-7 extra ones that we sing in chamber, including 3 of Moses Hogan's songs. *sigh* We have alot of work to do.
@hayhayapple11 Cool, good luck! :D I showed this to my friends who are in the choir too and this was their reaction: O_O woah....those are some high notes....
My money is on the bet that Moses Hogan was a tenor. Because he gave the most epic line to the tenors "JoshuafitthebattlefitthebattleofJericho, JoshuafitthebattlefitthebattleofJericho!"
Oh. My. God. This is AMAZING. My middle school choir did this, but it was completely male. Still though. HOLY CRAP. It was like POP then drop then POP then glide. SMOOTH
one of the bests versions on youtube. It had great dynamics in building to the end. All little more diction on the T's would help it have a better style. All the ones I heard have the same problem. Great balance. I hope our choir can sound like this at state contest in two weeks
I remember singing two different versions of this song. I think this one was in my sixth-grade choir. It's better than the one my high-school choir sang.
Along with Morning Star and Shalom (a Hebrew song), I remember this song for a LONG time.
Men: Don't strain. It's urgent @1:20 but unnecessary to scream/shout/strain.
@1:15 Make the walls tumble by constructing them vocally on the top notes (and the *WALLS*) and hitting all the notes of this very important descent
Some of those notes around the climax @1:40 are being held too long and too straight-tone. Needs vibrato and dynamics. The song (wall) never truly comes doooowwwnnnn. (too fast @1:49)
Other than that, this is one of the better interpretations of this piece on Youtube.
i sang tenor 1 for this in the 2009 music in the parks competition in missouri. we won first overall first for our devision and had a superior rating... we got a 98.
this is not the GMEA All State Choir-this is the Texas MEA from like 2005 (i think thats the year) but my teacher use this recording for us aand their conductor for that year was Jo-Michael Scheibe
It's extremely well done by this Choir and your right Brittany Louise that's the tempo of the song.. although doing this piece that fast it's pretty easy to rush it...but if you sit back with the metronome they keep tempo all through out.
we've learnt another version of joshua with my choir, but this arrangement is simply amazing. it's a must. of course the performance makes a piece fantastic, and this performance is really fantastic.
Oh thank God! We've been working on this piece for about two weeks and its been kind of iffy sitting back in the Bass section. After hearing this I know it sounds fantastic. We are finally going through a capella and its sounding better. Still need much work for us to sound that good, but our performance is Tuesday... I'll post a video of it up, hopefully Wednesday. Wish us luck, please!
its not crazy rushing through the whole thing but it definately picks up pace. its not necessarily bad for the piece but try directing it with this recording and you can definately feel it. or just start it again after you listen to the whole thing
yea i jst check cause i sang this my senior year in New Mexico All State 2007 and we did pretty good we were told by our conductor that we was the best choir she ever heard sing this song and she remembers when Moses Hogan came out with his choir singing this arrangement that he made himself during a choir symphosium...and Texas All State conductor was Jo-Michael Scheibe that year
We sang this song in my high school choir but there was only about 85 of us but we still sounded amazing or at least the judges thought so at State Festival
yeah, im pretty sure that any choir that can do this is pretty amazing. i want to sing so bad but i would hate it if it was bad. this choir is good but they rush pretty bad. listen to it and then start it again and its pretty obvious. its still my favorite choir song.
This is fantastic. Those tenors were so kick-ass I had to listen twice before I caught the descant. And the tempo is perfect. :)

Thats really awesome!! i would say: "Joshua did some Metal in Jericho"-its very progressive.
Great arangement!
I dont mind if some G is missing. even the fades are really cool. way too much, but its a good idea.

also...where were the Bass II's? I did not hear their low G at the end...nor in any of the beginning on the F

way too much "sh" on joshua

Sounds like too many voices...especially in the tenor feature....more blending...sounds like and army of tenors singing that part.

@ChezMaestro an ARMY of tenors? the song is called the BATTLE of Jericho. i like the sound and i think its done for a reason
