Feel it in the one drop, yes....this song is special. To me, the opening lines 'our day will come, when we will have everything' represent something bigger than a love song - that "change is gonna come" vibe.
@monthervil .... no disrespect to the late ms winehouse, but this was and always has been gold when first done by the originators 'Ruby & the Romantics, and then covered beautifully by the untouchable 'Heptones', doesn't need the likes of winehouse or others to make a classic that was already a classic....
@RootsDaughter41926 youre right..but I was refering to her way of taking already classic songs and making something completely new with them by bringing in the jazz, reggae, soul and hip hop influences.I never said she would make it a classic....in fact knowing Amy, I dont think shed even bother to cover a song that wasnt already at a high standard, that wasnt already a classic; she challenged herself musically, by tackling classics...something most musicians are afraid of doing.
A few respectful comments. I'm a fan of Amy's. My point is that many artists have covered this song and put their own unique stamp on it. Amy and her producers always had high standards...but somehow I (personally) found the performance on this one lackluster. Just an opinion' but I don't think it comes close to 'Rehab' or 'Tears Dry On Their Own'
I agree most contemporary pop artists don't challenge themselves musically, perhaps because they aren't UP to that challenge! R.I.P. Amy
@RootsDaughter41926 well said about this lovely song been listening to them for many years ...and how can some one say '' being touched by ''''Amy winehouse ""
bit silly really to me ..but of cause respect to Amy . like some of her things but never be like the original's ....
I don't mean to dismiss Amy, but I thought her vocal was lackluster. Her version won't be the one music listeners will think of first when the title is mentioned. This song has certainly stood on it's own for decades-It's been recorded dozens of times by huge stars and made millions of bucks for the writers Mort Garson and Bob Hilliard. This was made into gold long before Amy was born. Bless her, though- she knew it was a good one.
Its easy to forget that rub-a-dubbing, smooth and sexily at a late night party - to tunes like this, was the stuff of magic in my youth. The world was a very different place then, more earthy and sensual.
Como dice la cancion, "·Nuestro dia llegará " Espero que te guste Toledano, con afecto tu pelailla.
