just my opinion, I think that your sound or tone depends of too many factors, the guitar, the amp, the gear between the guitar and amp, but most of all, depend of you. Squiers, Yamaha, Cort, etc, etc, are very good guitars (entry level and not so).
Just, when you buy some of this guitars, you need to test it, not all are nice guitars.
Of course, the squire strat is a beginner guitar - and it doesn't have the best pickups or tone, but it pains me to see some people on youtube simply play with full distortion complaining it sounds shit when they can't even play it aswell, pressing the strings lightly. The squire strat, along with a simple small amp with the main settings like treble, bass etc can produce a good tone for all kinds of music, you just need to experiment with the settings, and learn to play well.
You know what6 it sounded great because he knows HOW TO PLAY.
He could plug into anything and he'd sound good. Kudos to you, you know your stuff, and your chords. It's fun to hear someone play somethign and you don't know what the next chord is going to be, you're inventive.
Of course. Don't get me wrong, my main rig is a '74 Les Paul Deluxe and a Fender Super Reverb. But for the $100 I paid for the guitar (and 150, I think, for the amp) it was a decent sounding set up. Back when I bought it, I just needed something with not much value to leave at school for Stage Band, and I think it did the job O.K.
No, it's just a Squier "Strat". If i'm not mistaken, Squier was on a hiatus from making Bullets at the point my guitar was made (1997). They were common place in the 80's, then were reissued in the early 2000's in a different, more "strat like" body style.
@mooghammondb3 I got my Fender Squier Strat a couple months ago, i'm learning some kinds of music, i just wonder, if i ditch the default Squier Amp and get a better one, will it give that heavy metal sound that i want? or is the squier just not capable of that, thanks. (Ps. you're great man)
@Authentiker There is this one band who makes a really crunchy sound with a squier, but other than that I haven't seen any. Best bet is to get a guitar with humbuckers
Don't do it. Pay the extra $200 and buy a Mexican Fender. I sold Squier basses for some time at a music shop, and all I got was complains about their inability to stay in tune and their constant buzzing. One guy's frets even started to pop out. I highly discourage purchasing one.
i bought a strat squire yesterday for 95 dollars. it looks really nice but i havent had time to play it yet, i play a lot of acoustic. did i get ripped off? it looks relatively new and in great shape but i know nothing about guitar manufacturers and their specific nuiances. thanks and take care.
dont see a lot of people rocking Kiss shirts anymore. Squire Strats are actually pretty good guitars for the money. I have one and I enjoy playing it.
I got one of those for christmas, but it was red. The guitar is great for the money, but some people say they suck, and so do the amps, but they are great! I like that it has a whammy bar on it, it adds to the awesomeness!
Whats is a pickguard and how do I identify the potentiometer. I dont now to much about this electric guitar so I think that is better if you show me how to do it. Put a video on youtube to help me and maybe at the same time you help more people that have the same problem.
the white plate that holds the pickups, is called the pickguard. Take the screws off and turn it upside down. You'll have to take the strings off to do that.
Be careful not to yank the wires connecting it to the input jack( thats where you plug in your guitar).
If you want to learn how to service your guitar and just to get some knowledge about it go to Barnes and Noble , they have a book for that. Its called the Complete guitar repair manual or something. Look it up.
I think I got a problem with my guitar and I need professional help. My squier got 5 effects but in the effect 5/5 last one sounds like a annoying noise. Really I dont now if is damage.
If someone now about this send me a messege. please help me somebody.
That's called the pickup selector switch. It's a single potentiometer that has five wires running from it to "pick up" the different pickups. Take off the pickguard and take a look inside. There might be a frayed or disconnected wire that may need to be resoldered, which is really easy to do. If that's not the case, sometimes the potentiometer gets gummed up over time. Give it a good shot of electrical contact cleaner and try that. Tell me if it works.
It's not the guitar, It's the person behind the guitar. You will be amazed if you ever got a chance to see the original SRV strat at a hard rock cafe', it's an absolute piece of shit but ...........I don't have to say much
My first guitar was exactly this guitar (that was a while back now!) and I loved it when I first purchased it. But now, I can really hear and feel the difference between an American or even a Mexican Strat, and the squier counterpart. The squiers just sound way too thin.
This is actually a pretty decent guitar, for its price. I've heard many horror stories about them, but it's great as far as reliability goes. As long as you treat it well, then it will last long. Except, when you use the whammy bar, it messes up the tuning quite a bit.
ACTUALLY, The les paul is WAY better than any strat. Fender strat (american) is good, but squier strats are pieces of shit for beginners. I own an american crossroads stratocaster, and a gibson lp custom. and the gibson is WAY better
Yeah Gibsons are better if you think rock music (I notice the "punk" in your name) is like golf. Yeah go ahead and get that Gibson LP and say things like "Good swing" and "nice putt," but if you want that lower class but brilliant sound, go bowling with a fender strat!
very nice, lol......who the hell would put EMG's in a Gibson product? EMG's are meant for jacksons, ibanez's, esp's, bc rich's and other metal type guitars sine thats all emg's are used for. Stick with burstbuckers for gibsons
Robin Trower is a Squier player. He claims the narrower(student) string set is easier to play. Unfortunately you cannot use a standard or American made Bridge on a Squier unless you want to fill in the holes and re-drill. When it comes to 'Strats' the real tone comes from the P-UP's and the Bridge and block. I have two (89& 99) and have modified them both to exceptional players. The 99 I would put up against any Re-issue or American.
Squier Stratocaster 189€ it sounds very very GOOD yeah i love that guitar... I never thought I will be now playing a "Fender" (not a Fender, but it's OK).
Sorry if my english is very poor, I'm not used to write in english (I'm spanish)
They're not that good out of the package, they take some setting up, but also they're cheap but very versatile. I have 2, one of them cost me $200 and i put a set of $250 EMG's in it and set up the bridge a little better and now its a metal/solo guitar. Great Playin! You're the first guy on youtube I found, who's influenced by Robbie Robertson. He was a great influence of my playng too. Do you ever tried to play with a flatpick and two fingerpicks, like Robbie used to? That gives you a nice snappy tone. Keep on rockin'.
I love the way you play. I'd give anything to be able to pull off some of them chicken-pickin licks. I just got me a Squire strat for $99. Great little guitars.
I had the 93/94 modell and it's still hurts thinking that I slaughed the guitar just for taking the parts of it. just the best neck i ever had played on. it was real but i was young & dumb!
Yes, it is. It's a 1997, so a it sounds a little better than the new squires and the components are a bit nicer. In fact, it was one of the first ones made in China; the Fender Company had just begun to construct the instruments there rather than in Korea (cheaper labour, methinks).
Thanks! Yes, Squier II Strats are fairly well made. Mine is an "affinity" strat, which is a really cheap model, however it still plays well. I'm currently refinishing it; i've stripped the body, stained it, and I'm in the process of varnishing. I'll be posting a video of it once it's done.

The signature "strat tone" is something that, IMO, is only really noticable when played through the clean channel of a solid-state amplifier.
mooghammondb3 2 years ago
I agree with this. It can be noticeable with overdrive too, when a strat with high output pickups is compared with a low output guitar.
