But she's sings it like the others "We've got a fast car... We've gotta make a decision."

It ruins the song sung that way. The idea is that the man she ran away is has become just like her father drinking all the time, ignoring his family.

So she's great but she's changed the meaning of the song.

I don't think it's hollow or empty at all. I absolutely feel something from her listening to this. Actually kind of haunting. Can ANYONE outdo Tracy? Absolutely not. She's one of a kind. This is one of the best songs ever written. Perfect. I don't think she was trying to even compare to Tracy's. It's just different. Covers are never meant to outdo the original.
