I really like playing this song because it's not so "over the top" like alot of Geddy's playing. It's more managable, say compared to the trees or the big Money.
I was running the bass into the computer using 2 channels in Cubase. One clean and the other with software tube pre-amp on it. I wish I could get this sound live!
great job. This is one of the better rush covers I have seen on here oh and by the way you don't look like Geddy you still look like a guy.(ha-ha) I think he is one of the best musicians ever but let's face it he isn't the most masculine guys in the world. Hey maybe you should try the enemy within that is a pretty good one
check the main riff, i think you have a wrong note, C, G, Eb, G, Gshrp, Eb (instead of G), but you get that unique geddy lee sound, i love those black strings, congrats man, but again, check out that note of the main riff
I totally agree with opersanger! I believe its Eb instead of G. I actually broke out my bass and compared it to the posting and my IPOD. Although, Im wondering why the initial writer wrote shrp instead of utilizing the # sign. Non-the-less,,,,, Other than that, AWESOME work my friend. When are you going to record Freewill bass?
1. The bass is the Fender Geddy Lee Edition Jazz with Rotosound Swing Bass 66 (RS 66LD) on it.
2. Technique, technique, technique! Ya gotta kind of slap to get the growl, not pluck.
3. I am running my sound for this through Cubase split to 2 channels. One clean and the other has a VST tube pre-amp on it with the gain adjusted to give me a touch of distortion.
The meters on the screen are the actual Cubase meters while I was recording. From left to right, clean bass-dist bass-actual song-mix.
best bass cover ive seen of this song! currently im learning this tune. keep it up man! your other vids are pretty awsome too! some of the best ive ever seen! :D
TBH, I think this one is the best. Except for the pooch towards the end. Watching my son play games again! You wouldn't believe the stuff he can find, he's only 5! ;-P
I used Cubase to record the bass, 2 channels, one clean and one with a bit of tube distortion. For the video, I used my camcorder to record the video of me playing, Camtasia Studio 3 to capture the Cubase video and a combination of M$ Movie Maker and Adobe Premier Pro to edit it all together!
Gave me a new appreciation of video editors trying to get the audio and video to sync up!
Awesome cover, trying to learn this song now.

TBH, I think this one is the best. Except for the pooch towards the end. Watching my son play games again! You wouldn't believe the stuff he can find, he's only 5! ;-P
2112MIA 3 years ago
What's he playing, that it distracts you so much?
Heheh.
YourNoose 3 years ago 2
He finds all those cool flash games. Like the stick figures that beat the crap out of each other, etc... Some are REAL COOL! :D
I might ad that he is only 5 years old too. So I have to make sure he isn't stumbling into newgrounds or some thing like that!
2112MIA 3 years ago
Yeah, that wouldn't be that great if he stumbled apon those sites.
Gonna teach him how to rock the bass? :D
YourNoose 3 years ago 2
Gonna teach that boy every thing I know about music if I can! Bass, Guitar, Keyboards, Drums, Sound Engineering/Recording.

Very well done, nice and smooth.
What do you use for recording?
ESeath 4 years ago
Thanx! I never get comments, don't know why.

I don't quite have the recording set up that you have but I finally recorded my own rendition of this song.
Check it out if you get a chance.
