im not much on computers but i currently hate windows7. trying out zorin cause of the less learning curve from windows but i cant get the internet to work. seen posts sayin to install drivers but i dont know how. someone please help!
open a terminal and do this "lspci > lspci.txt " this will create a lspci.txt. copy and post the content here, so I can see what network and drivers you need. Or click on start menu and type terminal, open the terminal and in the terminal type "sudo apt-get install jockey-gtk" enter your password. After install type "sudo jockey-gtk" in same terminal and look for the recommended drivers and install . If any proprietary drivers are detected install them and reboot. Let me know
The worst GNU/Linux OS I have seen, too charged of useless things. Operative systems must be simple, fast and easy to understand. That is why I love my Debian GNU/Linux!
@DMBoyCloud no such things as useless in Linux..maybe for you, it is useless..for others, it is awesome..you have to understand thats why distros out there are so many (i've been told about 300++ distros) because there are a lot of different mind and opinion..
n do u kno wat, I am 2 making my own operating system, it's ubuntu based but it is damn awesome! i'll giv u a message when i release my os...hope u will give it a try atleast... try making a video 4 dat if u like it....
it is releasing next week, my OS is ready but the problem is with my website which i have not completed it yet :P
certainly. And while some commentators on my videos think these developers of Zorin OS are wrong to sell their product, the GPL version of zorin is free. What about OSes derived from Linux or Unix , such as mandriva , Redhat, Elive, all of which have the free version and the commercial ones ? Everyone is free to sell anything the can develop out of open source, no limits.
Thanks. Don't remember the last time I did anything Win or Mac. I like it for what it offers. And free is good. Thus you get a lot of people in the community developing great apps for free of charge. Can't ask for more. Anything I want to do in the alternative OSes , I can do in linux.
What OS do you use? If Linux or Unix which distro?
@joesa4717 Right now I am beta testing Ubuntu 11.10. Out of all of them I think Ubuntu is the best. Although the kernel does need work, but that's why it is open source right? :P
What I hear is WIndows 8 is going after Linux >,>
Hopefully people would still stay loyal to Unix and its counterparts.
Absolutely. You can build on the free Zorin and use it as you please. The free version is opensource per this article wikibin DOT org / articles / zorin-os DOT html - Which means users are free to run, copy, distribute, study, change, develop and improve the software and profit out of it if you will. Though it will be hard to turn the hardcore Mac users to complete Linux users
True Unix users will always be. No system will come close to Unix, no matter the look and feel the put up. Under the hood Unix reigns, and those Win developers know that.
