I am the narrator who stated this patient was taking "The Equivalent of about 100 Vicodin a day" everythingyouwanted makes a great point about the dangers of tylenol, but this patient was taking OxyContin which contains no tylenol. This patients treatment took place years ago when OxyContin came in a 160mg tablet. Patient took 3 tablets for breakfast and was wide awake (480mg Oxy is about 100 Vicodin 5mg tabs). Pt. took 10-15 OxyContin tablets a day, his treatment went fine.

This can't be true, 100 vicodin would kill you from the tylenol. He could be taking the equivilent in a different substance but 100 vicodin, even the low APAP ones would be 30grams of tylenol so he has his numbers mixed up.

I wonder if it was just hydrocodone that he was taking? (Vicodine is hydrocodone and acetaminophen combined). Even if he was tolerant to the hydrocone in a vicodin, if he took 100 of them at a time, he would die from acetaminophen overdose. I highly doubt he had "100 vicodin" in one sitting for breakfast. 100 vicodin is equivaent to 40,000-50,000 mg of acetominophen (the tylenol in vicodin) which would kill you. Yeah,opiate addiction is about the worst of all. Less than 3 percent of hardcore longterm opiate addicts ever get clean and stay clean..scary thought. Using methadone maintenance has helped me get my life back to normal and is the only answer for many. However,it is addictive as well and I think should only be used by hardcore longterm dependence problems and only after you have tried everything else. I tried rehab,weaning down,cold turkey nothing worked so methadone was perfect for me.

700 Vicodin, especially ES, would kill you. Your liver can only process 4,000mg of tylenol per day, and Vicodin ES has 750mg of tylenol per tablet. Obviously this guy is exaggerating... he would have died soon after breakfast. And a 10/325 dose of hydrocodone and acetaminophen isn't even Vicodin (it's under a different brand name). And what does "equivalent of 700..." mean? The producers and patient are exaggerating the situation. Detoxification isn't even a word, by the way...
