You are right, about the song, & Pete Seeger. Check out Bruce Springsteen singing Seeger's, Bring Them Home, with different lyrics. (Google, Springsteen & the title.)

Springsteen's Magic album (2008) is full of protest songs about the Bush administration. He spoke out against the invasion and occupation of Iraq before it happened.

He spent more time with soldiers at Walter Reed than Bush, supporting them, but not the policy. Bush tried to turn dissent into treason, and almost succeeded.
