  • the saddest song i ever listen.

  • yes Tokiens is a christian and the stories are christian based if you know the Bible you can see it.

    amazing books and movies ^^

  • ok, wtf?

you people are arguing about religion when the video's about some guy who's been cursed by a ring ._.

  • The clips you used go perfect with the lyric!

  • this is beautiful love it.how,d the get emmilli torinii

  • Sorry my friend, but Tolkein was a big time Christian...very devout. LOTR/Silmarilion/Hobbit , etc is a mythological narrative of the earth. The God in his stories is supposed to be the Christian God. Tolkein has stated this himself. Sorry, but you can deny it, but the truth is the truth.

  • what's bullshit about it. It's true. Read your history...read his biography. He makes no qualms or hides the fact that he is a big time Christian (he converted C.S. Lewis into Christianity).

  • lol wow dude please just shut the hell up

  • Why? Because I'm speaking the truth and you don't want to hear it. Tolkein was a Christian, a zealout one at that. If you don't like it then sorry. There are huge Christian themes in the Middle-Earth Legundarium and tolkein has stated that Eru Illuvatar is the Christian God in his mythological stories.

  • O shut up u homo religious freak i didnt even know wut the bible was tell i was 8

  • That's nice. I don't care. The argument here has nothing to do with my religion or not, it has to do with the fact that Tolkein was a big Christian and deliberately put Christian themes/allegories, etc in his mythos. Which he did, and is a fact. If you have a problem with it, then tough luck.

  • drama drama drama baby

  • might have been better if bjork ened up singing this

  • you're fucking retarded wdonica. If Jesus had any job, it would be a preacher of God's word. His father joseph was the carpenter. Go to church and learn your bible history dumbass!

  • "Where did this man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! 3Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph,[a] Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.

    Mark 6:3 begs to differ

  • Jesus wasn't a full time preacher until he was in his 30's. Children of that time learned their father's trade therefore Jesus was a carpenter for some time before he started preaching. For someone professing to be Christian, you exhibit none of the virtues. My credentials are that I am a semenary graduate.

  • I think you're the one who needs to go to church. Its quite hypocritical that you're on here reciting bible verses yet you drop all sorts of profanity.

  • how about religion is dropped period, its really sad that people can still be influenced by a mindless cult

  • i wouldn't say mindless cult, but it is a stupid thing to be arguing over.

believe what you want, just don't force your beliefs down other peoples' throats.

  • take your own advice, christians and others are always tryin to force there beliefs and treat them as "facts".

  • But it is alright to explain what you believe, and explain why you believe it. The End.Lets get back to LotR now.

  • Schönes Lied und geiler Film ich bin immer noch erstaunt von dieser Kreativität und diesen scheinbar nie endenen Horizont von Tolkien

  • She sings another song "To Be Free" - now that is about right. I prefer Oldfield one of same title though.

    Don't say I didn't try!

  • LOTR is actually one of those films that I never get sick of watching...and it's soundtrack is just superb! I can't wait for another Tolkien's book converted into a glorious film like these.

  • this song is my religion

  • Very beautiful sound, music, ...and that voice!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • I LOVE The Lord of the rings and this song.

  • This song and the whole lord of the rings makes me cry so bad every time. So wonderful!

  • I wonder what it would sound like if Bjork sang this instead....

  • I'm amazed *.*

  • reine seele

  • this song is soul

  • this song is my life

  • Now my computer is going to glitch, i cried all over it.

  • Ash nazg durbatulûk, ash nazg gimbatul, ash nazg thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul

  • This doesn't sound like Emiliana Torrini at all, but I love it :)

  • Poor Gollum and poor Sméagol!!!

  • lol feel kinda bad for gollum haha

  • I love this song <3

Got it on my mobile phone :D

  • great

  • Poor psychopathic little Gollum.. :(

  • LOL

  • Ethereal

  • pretty awsomee

  • Emiliana Torrini does such a wonderful job with this piece. I have this on a playlist I use just for driving in-land. Everyone should check out her cover of "Sound of Silence".

    Icelanders represent!

  • anyone heard her song 'big jumps'? its awesome :)

  • I'm so proud of this <33 Cuz it's sung by an Icelander, Emilíana :D

    And these movies are epic!

  • well, half Icelandic, half Italian; but her voice is still almost otherworldly

  • Yes, I knew she was half, just didn't know the other half ^^ Thank you.

  • Really?? What a unique! :)

    Enchanting music. <3

  • For the longest time I thought Bjork sang this.

  • SO GOOD IT HURTS

  • A haunting, beautiful song!

  • One of the greatest movies ever =p

  • did they make youtube widescreen or something?

  • Omg, they did, didn't even notice.

  • this is so beatiful and sad

  • omg i love this song!!!! <3

  • Precioso tema.......... maravilloso.

  • Bjork would of sound better in this song

But due to her pregnancy she couldn't.

  • like they are singing my life

  • i hope that you can change your song

  • great video 5/5

every song from fantasy movies is so great

    i love it

just like enya, annie lennox(Lord of the Rings)

    avril lavigne,jem(Eragon)

=)and Gollum is one of the best charakters ever

  • this song brings back so many memories

  • Amazing absolutley amazing!!!

  • omfg luv this songgg

  • We are lost and can never go home

So in the end I'll be what I will be

No loyal friend was ever there for me

Poor Gollum what a tortured soul he was

  • that bit always makes me cry

and then I always hate him when he throws their last food down the mountain and turns Frodo against Sam. (always cry on that bit too!)

  • I honestly cried at the cinema when Frodo says

    "Go home, Sam."

... It was a manly kind of crying, I swears it.

  • Same! Well, not the manly bit but when Sam just sat down halfway up the mountain and cried, I almost drowned my popcorn in tears! (And I swear that my coke had about 50% extra salt in by the end)

  • No, no.... no needs to apologize, my pre-cioussss...

    :)

  • But precious needs to apologizes! Precious must!

  • no, no, precious doesn't apologize, we apologize to precious, but the fat Hobbit's always watching! And what he did to the rabbits was un-forgivable.... my precious....

  • Taters? What's taters precious?

  • You know, po-ta-toes! :)

    Wait, what are you doing?!?!

I like my fish wrrrrriggling, and rrrraw! :P

  • Gollum scared me when i was a little kid....hahaha it is funny now though that i got scared of gollum :D

  • I used to have nightmares about him! I had this one where he was creeping around in my backyard at night, and then he came up to the door!

  • i used to have nightmares where i would creep around through tunnels and stuff...and then he would see me and come chasing after me....and his big eyes would look at me....evil

  • the voices of bjork and Emiliana Torrini are very similar

  • hm and i thought that was bjork

  • It was supposed to be, but there was a cancellation at last moment, so Emiliana Torrini stepped in.

  • does anyone remember who sings this?

  • Emiliana Torrini

  • This video perfectly fits the song

Is this the one from the DVD or not??

Poor Gollum, I feel so sorry for him. It's one thing hating someone because of their personalities but you gotta understand WHY they are like it. And Gollum is living proof that hate goes deeper than you'd think

  • Its is yeah lol

    end of number 2 i think :D

  • Oh yh. On the extras

forgot it was on there :D

    thanks

  • so sad... really good job. ^.\\

    ~the Rider

  • this song is.... for lack of a better word... bewitching...

  • Rare that I hear a song at the end of a film and then go searching for it. This is so beautiful.

  • Me 2. I love it!

  • I've only done that with a few movies. One that I can think of is actually the beginning song to the new James Bond (or newest at least), Casino Royale, which is 'You know my name'. I can't think of anything else.

  • "Himmel"frei von Bedrängnis .

  • I am not lost and I can go home whenever I want...

  • is it me or does emillana torrini's voice make this song a little haunting but at the same time beautiful

  • of course she does!

  • yes haunting and beautiful describes it exactly

  • Totally. I thought it might be Bjork when I first heard it. : )

  • Me too!

  • And yet Tolkien was a Christian and it relates most to the Christian faith.

Plenty of people care and just because you don't want it to have any link to God doesn't mean it doesn't. :]

  • but...but god dosent exist!!!!

  • The book does symbolise both the Christian faith and WW2. regardless of if it was intentional or not he has put his faith and experiences into it. If any of you have read the simarillion, a lot of it is effectively the story of Lucifer's (the devil) fall from heaven.

Now quit debating religion and enjoy this beautiful song. :]

  • WWI

  • It was not about WWII. Or Christianity. Tolkien specifically said the book is not allegory, not to mention that when people try and compare LotR to World War II it nearly always reveals they know very little about World War II.

  • You realize this was written mostly before WWII, right? And in his mythology, the world was created by an orchestra of demi gods playing music..sounds just like Christianity doesn't it? The only real reference to real world events I know of was his experience in the bloody battles of WWI. The trenches that got filled with rain, with bodies still inside them became the Dead Marshes. That's about it.

  • WW2 was a typo, hence why I changed it in a later comment to WW1.

    And yes, yes it does.

  • Wow...I really thought it was Bjork who sung this song oO

And why is it that under every youtube video there has to be some debate about God? C'mon guys, just enjoy the video.

  • this song makes me weep. it's one of the most beautiful things i've ever heard. "you are lost. you can never go home."

  • I seriosuly don't care if you don't believe in God or not. The author made a conscious decision on whether to believe God or not, and that made all the difference.

Being born into a certain family really has nothing to do with it. You can be born in a Godly family and still be in a mentally dark self-hating pit like Gollum.

  • Lol, you're a hoot dude xD Now lets just wait until someone posts and doesn't realize you're being sarcastic lawl

  • Okay?

  • assholes scientologists . P.S : greatest song i ever heard , and the most beatifull.

  • So in the end I'll be—what I will be No loyal friend Was ever there for me Now we say—goodbye We say—you didn't try... These tears you cry Have come too late Take back the lies The hurt, the blame! And you will weep When you face the end alone You are lost! You can never go home You are lost! You can never go home
  • Where once was light Now darkness falls Where once was love Love is no more Don't say—goodbye Don't say—I didn't try These tears we cry Are falling rain For all the lies you told us The hurt, the blame! And we will weep to be so alone We are lost We can never go home
  • such a beautiful song..

  • feo los monos pero buena melodia

  • that is true, but its more than a story its a myth, and when its a myth people take what they want from it

  • He also mentions somewhere about one the trilogy's strengths being applicability. Two different people can take two very different, very meaningful messages from them. I think that's one of the reasons they're so popular in so many countries/cultures. You can see the ring as nuclear weaponry or maybe it's the idea of everyone forced to live one way or the natural fear we have of different things.

  • we cant really say what it symoblizes now can we? from my research it was about God because C.S Lewis and JR Tolkin were good friends and i C.S. was an athest until he met JR which is pretty cool :) i might have that switched around. If so let me know lol.

  • YouTube's horrific sound and video took away from it, but it is still a great piece nonetheless.

  • It symbolized World War II. The Germans, Italians and Japanese being the orcs, and the Americans, Brits, Canadians and Polish being the Humans, Elves and Dwarves. I don't think he intended it that way, but I think it came from his subconscious.

  • No, it didn't. If you read the preface, you'd understand LotR doesn't symbolize anything at all in real life. Tolkien hated allegory.

  • I love her voice aswell

  • love her voice!

  • wow this song gives me the chills every time i hear it. Can you imagine being apart of the movies! Gollum is defiantly my fav character in the movie. I think he represents how we all have evil and good in us and if you let the evil win, well we all know what happeneds to poor Smegol :( hehe

  • I think it was in one of the movies, the music, anyway. Can't really remember. But this song just oozes lonliness. Very beautiful.

  • I love the LOTRs movies, and the books too!

  • Classics!!!

  • I adore this song and out into the west i think they have beautiful wording and music that really inspires me as does lord of the rings itself.

Ive been reading quite alot of the comments and i dont understand why people are fighting over whether theres a religious reffernce or not. personally i think middle earth and the whole story around it has its own tales and history. even though its a fictional world it has a life of its own so people shouldnt assume its basied on religious meanings.

  • LOL

  • I love this song its a perfect relection of Poor gollum. I havent read the book though sorry people : /

  • i was just thinking, i should really read the books, b/c its an absolutely wonderful story! Love the movies! :)

  • Yes, definitely read the books. The movies are wonderful, but you haven't experienced even half of it yet.

  • I will definitely read them!!!!!

  • Well, having read the books do you feel the movie does it justice or were you dissapointed?

  • The movies do very great justice. Of course it is such an expansive book that some parts have to be left out or altered, but it definitely does justice, and stays true to the books quite well.

  • You can interpret the elements of the book in whatever manner you'd like, but Tolkien didn't intend it to be that way - in fact, most elements in the book are from his own experiences, especially WWI experiences. PM me if you would like me to elaborate on that, for the sake of post count I won't right now.

So, interpret it however you want, but don't try to prove each other wrong by saying what it is or isn't. Tolkien meant it to be a book that all can enjoy, but necessarily not an allegory.

  • Before I go on, know that I am a devote Christian and believer in God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Lord of the Rings was never intended to be an allegory. I love LOTR, and I have for many years. Not meaning to seem boastful, I know a LOT about the story and the author. (Movies as well, but they're not the subject right now)

Tolkien said himself, he never intended the story to be an allegory, (a fictional story where elements represent Christian beliefs and themes.)

  • As a christian myself and a huge fan of LOTR films (although i really need to read the books!) I feel when you have a good story you cant help but for it to somehow line up with the word of God. Great ideas come from him. God put that story in Tolkien whether he realizes it or not. Tolkien's intentions may not have been for it to represent Christian Beliefs and Themes but funny how viewers can realate the two.

Do you get what i mean :) hope so !!

  • Yes, I know what you mean, and that's one of the points I was trying to say. Even though Tolkien never meant it to be truly an allegory, it can be associated with Christianity. That's something I like about it. Tolkien gave us room to think of elements of the story however we like, even though in truth, most elements were from his own experiences, and just his own brilliance.

  • You disgust me. Tolkien created Lord of the Rings. Not God. I don't see God described as the author.

"God put that story in Tolkien whether he realizes it or not."

    That is so ignorant.

  • Ok what-ev, thats ur opinion. If I have as much power as to "disgust you" Then hey, Im lovin it, I have this kind of power b/c of GOD. HE rules all and in the end those who have been blind to his existence will see the truth and ask for forgiveness.

  • HAHAHAHAH what do i care about what youtube people think. IM Laughing at ur comment, thanks for making me LAUGH

  • You fail at argumenting.

  • dude, you too!!!

  • interesting, did you ever read his autobiography? He says that he didn't come up with that all himself, he said it was always there already, he only was the one supposed to write it down for us to see, read.

btw, no need to jump onto other people's throat just cause you don't agree wit something.

  • Fine.

Why can't people acknowledge that they have accomplished something themselves? Does it have to be divine inspiration just because it's a good story? He surely thought what he wrote, because that's what he was told as a child, what he had been raised to believe. That all good things come from God.

If he had been born in a muslim family, it would have been from Allah.

If he had been born in an hindu family, it would have been from Shiva(or something).

But the truth is, the inspiration

  • I call it humility.

  • doesn't come from a deity. It comes from inside, from the person itself. God is you, you are God. The power people draw from God, is actually from themselves. God is just an argument, the idea that you cannot posess so much power yourself, that it has to come from someone else. That all humans can't have equal power. That's what's wrong. That's what i dislike. That people divide among themselves, mistaking this power for something supernatural, explaining it with great Deities and stories, all

  • the search for what is right. But the answer is inside. Why do you deny it?

  • wow, the languages r unbelievable, hundreds written yet many left unfinished before the man died. R.I.P to a new world inside itself, created by 1 man who knew more than life itself, enough to creat another world..

  • Great song, great video! :)

    I heard some people talking about religion and whether its real or not...I think, I didn't get the whole thing down ^^;

Me as being a Christian I believe it's true, but people who have a different religion or don't believe in God doesn't make them a horrible person from hell, respect other people's religions, just because they don't believe in what you do doesn't make them stupid. *shrugs* That's just the way I see it at least.

  • The ring is what it is. we can interpit it how ever we want and that is not a bad thing. To me the ring is power in its purest form. every one seeks it and to those that take it for them self or even to use for others will be corrupted by it. It is the mind set that you know better then your fellow man and because you have the power you impose your will on others. Tolkien was an officer and a soldier he knew what power could do to a man, it started 2 world wars.

  • believe in it so don't try to push it on them it's rude.

    xd

  • why are you talking about god and the bible.

its lord of the rings man, not theology class.

  • Saying there is no God is ignorant. Following him blindly is naive. Best to stay neutral.

  • prov it

  • That was a great Vid.! I loved it. Smeagol is my icon!

  • Loved the video by the way, and the song :3

You did a nice job ^_^

  • Thats the most depressing song I know!

    ♥♥♥♥!

  • love this song

  • I love that song

  • this song have made me cry so many times Y_Y. i love it, i love lord of the rings !!!!

  • Beautiful. Emiliana Torrini has an amazing voice.

  • poor Smeagol...such a sad story

    the song is beautiful
