I am a guitar play who is trying to learn how to play the banjo like it is supposed to be play. You video finally filled in the blanks for me on this song and how to play it all the way through.

yo, you have the basic melody, but since this is earl's song, i will tell you this:

on the second 2-3 slide, use your thumb. not your index finger. that second slide is supposed to get the emphasis.

also, going into E-minor, you've got a 3-2 slide on the third string. play it that way and see how it sounds.

4 string is mostly strum along or tenor banjos not really much on pickin beacause taht fifthe string is a big fillin 8note and makes the rolls complete

Hmm. This is a "simplified" version of FMB, definitely not the Earl Scruggs, or original, version. After the intro Earl would play the 2 hammer-on's differently, 1st one by picking with the index, 2nd one by picking with the thumb, then hammering-on _simultaneously_ with a middle finger pick on the 1st string. Those of you learning this for the first time, find the original and superior version, this version is missing a lot of Earl's creativity and subtlety.

That's good job, you show, how to play "foggy", but i have one critic to you. However you can play that well slowly, be aware of the speed! You have bad timing, when you play quickly and that playing is missing good tone. Remember, that clear sound and good timing is most important, speed is nothing!

ever heard of drop thumb? use it wehen ur sliding on the second string from the second fret to the third fret...saves time and energy...easier and u dont stumble..try it sometime...look at my video and that will give you an idea of how its played
