  • I am a guitar play who is trying to learn how to play the banjo like it is supposed to be play. You video finally filled in the blanks for me on this song and how to play it all the way through.

  • Great to see young people know what real music is. I wish you the best and know that you are going to really excel at this as you go forward. Nice video and lesson.

  • Hi Antony:

Very nice and detailed explanation of your Foggy Mountain Breakdown.

In the video you have your only 15, I some more, only 66.

30 days ago I bought my first banjo, and how to play the piano well, and some guitar, and play Scruggs-style rolls well.

Congratulations to teach rather slow and step by step this issue.

    You've done other videos?

If so please kindly keep me know.

From Buenos Aires Argentina a very cordial greeting, José Luis.

  • love the way you talk!!

  • Goed hoor Antony, petje af.

Ik volg de Murphy Henry Method, ik haat tabs en playing by ear gaat me beter af. Hoe ben jij begonnen met de banjo? Ken je Fred Hissink?

    Dag,

    groetjes uit Florida.

  • wow those old tin can banjos sure ruin a good song.....twang

  • hey dude ive got the exact same banjo sweet!

  • yo, you have the basic melody, but since this is earl's song, i will tell you this:

on the second 2-3 slide, use your thumb. not your index finger. that second slide is supposed to get the emphasis.

also, going into E-minor, you've got a 3-2 slide on the third string. play it that way and see how it sounds.

  • Thanks for the tip :) I'll try it!

  • its a good vid but i cant ready see ur fret fingers plz try to make it so i can thx

  • Very clever and well done! Makes me think of the good ole' Beverly Hillbilies' I love the 'Jed Clampett ballad too'

    Thanks for sharing..very useful indeed.

  • Thanks Anthony- the video has helped me get that hammer on just a bit crisper and a I am getting the rythmn of the song much better now. One day soon it will sound like music. You are a good teacher!

    Richie

  • No problem:) Glad it helped!

  • What banjo is that?

  • Keep this up, Anthony, and you'll make Earl proud! You probably already do!

  • go anthony.........

  • 4 string is mostly strum along or tenor banjos not really much on pickin beacause taht fifthe string is a big fillin 8note and makes the rolls complete

  • 5 string banjo is the most common for this type of music.

  • 5 or 4 string banjo ?? I´m going to by a banjo soon :)

  • Yes :P

  • thanks i needed that got 5 banjos and always wanted to do dthat song///god bless ya

  • thank you sooooo much

i am a guitar player but i changed my a string to a high g so i could learn this after i saw this video!

    thanks from australia!

  • Youre welcome :)

  • do you play every single day?

  • THANK YOU ANTHONY!!!

  • you wouldnt happen to have a tab would you?

  • Can't read them so I don't use them. Sorry mate :)

  • Hello.

Don't be discouraged by that rather harsh criticism. I think it's a good lesson that you did, so thanks

    Sandy

  • Yeah well, I'm not Earl am I

  • Niiiice :-) Haha.

  • enrob*snob* ... easy on the tone. For a 15 year old Dutch banjo player taking the time to show amateurs the basics he certainly doesn't deserve an elitist jab that probably took you 7 seconds to fart out of your fingers. Go play your banjo in the outhouse, alone.

  • That's good job, you show, how to play "foggy", but i have one critic to you. However you can play that well slowly, be aware of the speed! You have bad timing, when you play quickly and that playing is missing good tone. Remember, that clear sound and good timing is most important, speed is nothing!

  • Not true! Drink whisky when you play. Nothing will matter. Better yet-- get people listening to you to drink. yeehaw!

  • Dankje voor je video. Knap werk!

"when you've got that under the knee" is echter geen koosjer Engels vrees ik;-)

  • Jawel hoor :P las et ergens. en ja, dit was de eerste keer dat ik dit deed dus dan ben je ebst zenuwachtig als alles goed moet gaan enzo. anyway, boeiend :D

  • Anthony, thanks. - had a 4 string tenor for a year or so, and finally got my bluegrass 5 string yesterday! - I've had your great vid saved for ages, now I'm learning from your instruction.

    -eight guitars-seven violins-two hammonds-pedal steel-two banjos!!

    Thanks,

    Barry.

  • thats a nice ending thankyou

  • I reckommend getting the actual tab. You will hav to download power tab but its free. w w w.ultimate-guitar dot com. Then search foggy mountain breakdown. A power tab version will come and download it.

  • That is amazeing how well you play that banjo, im just a beginer, and thank to you, i already no half of this song

  • Thank You I just enjoyed the video and plan to use it for practice

  • Yes, please watch BRichard's video before you teach this song. I admire you wanting to teach, but please teach the correct song. Thanks.

  • ever heard of drop thumb? use it wehen ur sliding on the second string from the second fret to the third fret...saves time and energy...easier and u dont stumble..try it sometime...look at my video and that will give you an idea of how its played

  • This video is great! You taught me more in this video than i've been able to learn before! I've saved it to my favorites and I will be replaying it often!! Thanks for getting me started!

  • Wheres the ending? Sorry but theres a really cool ending on foggy mountain breakdwon but you didn't teach us how to play it.

  • on the very first string, pick the 18 frt, then the 20 fret, then21, then 22

  • The best ending I worked out myself. 5th string: 3,4,0

    1st string:0 2nd string: 2 1st string: 4,5

  • thats abetter ending then mine, thankyou

  • No problem anytime. Good luck with the piece.

  • I have been playing guitar for four years and have always found the banjo cool they sound great together
