A leading Israeli doctor and medical ethicist has called for the prosecution of doctors responsible for thousands of unauthorised and often illegal experiments on small children and geriatric and psychiatric patients in Israeli hospitals.
My name is David Beckman I am an Independent Film Producer/Writer/Creator. My specialty is doing holocaust documentary/films. My first one called White Rose Black Rose which will coming out next month. Sept 2011. I am now starting my second holocaust documentary film. It is called The Twin Survivors from Auschwitz Tell Their Stories. This one will be filmed here in the states, Toronto Canada, and Israel. I never use archival footage/photos for my documentary/films.This has been many times.
shdwsclan2 is wrong. Dina was ordered to paint or she and her mother would die. She could not found guilty of being a war criminal because of that. She and her mother were prisoners in a death camp. It was her painting that kept her alive. What a strong spirit she had. So brave, so talented and so tormented by what she was forced to endure. She could have had a great life as an artist, free of the Nazis, free to decide her own life's path. At least she left this legacy of art..
The irony of this video, is that is was posted the day before her death. I researched her as part of an English project, and have since fallen in love with her dedication and perseverance toward her cause. This is the only source that made me cry (and made me want to send my condolences because she could never regain the paintings, and thus, her heart).
This is technically propoganda, since its basically one sided.
1. You are forgetting that she agreed to work for the nazis, people can be tried as war criminals for that.
2. Since she was working for the nazi, thats legally considered a commission, and thus the paintings are NOT her property and the current owner (the museum) does not have to let her have their property.
@shdwsclan2 I'm not even gng to answer 1 bc its absurd
but for 2-The auschwitz museum director claimed as well. 50 of the top attorneys in the world disputed this claim in 2007 calling it "preposterous and offensive. Mengele is a war criminal. he does not deserve to enjoy the fruits of his crimes. Mrs Babbit was coerced on pain of death to paint these portraits. She did not voluntarily enter into any business relationship with Mengele. He cannot be regarded as a patron who commissioned artwork"
Goodbye Mommy. I am so very sorry I couldn't get them back for you. I am so sorry for the way you died. I hope my kisses and lullabies soothed you. I will always love you forever and ever and ever.
Agreed. Although I think paintings should remain where they are now. Their future shouldn't be decided by one particular person. Even the one who made them.
The Museum would probably say that they traded for the art "fair and square": Babit's paintings for her Mother's life!
But it was a "deal" under extreme duress. Owned by Mengele's survivor's? That's just dumb.
Clearly, the originals should go to the owners, Babbit's survivors. The Museum should set up an exhibit devoted to the topic called "Murdering Human Beings and Stealing Their Art". They can frame up reproductions as visual aids.
and after war - USA take care and collaborate with a lot of "scienstis", doctors, agents, they use they knowledge, they make a lot of experiments on human body etc. USA didn;t put them into jail, USA let them and help them evoid the court in Europe to profit from their barbarian experiments!
And now Dina has died. The Polish museum never gave up the paintings ("educational value") and said, if the museum is not the owner, then Mengele's survivors are the owners.
You shouldnt say like this "Evil lives. The Poles still don't get it",
so, please dont forget where this Aushwitz is, and who started all holocaust, and remeber that the poles lived in this evil and now need to get over from it.
I understand that it was a German (Nazi) initiative, but let's not forget that the Poles did not argue. In fact, as a people, they were pleased to take the Jews' property during and after the war. Also, see my comment which I should have addressed to your thoughtful comment.
Do you know that germans took polish property during the war... (maybe u dont know it) so let's say, we didnt live in that time, so we shouldnt take voice if its right to take or give back to her this paintings (maybe they should and live copy in the museum)...
Before You make more such ignorant comments read some books about Polish underground movement during German occupation. (If You read books...)Especially about 'Zegota'. Polish people saved many Jews during WWII. And do not forget my American frind that Your goverment knew about German plan to exterminate Jews. And did nothing to save them.
I'm afraid we got off topic. Certainly I did; you guys did too. I am far from expert. bit I have done some reading. I know that there were brave Christian Poles who risked their lives to rescue Jewish Poles (and others). Likewise there were brave Germans.
Anti-Semitism was a world-wide phenomenon due, in many ways, to the fact that they were a People without a country. Generally, when the chips are down, e.g. the 1930's depression, humans (mammals, generally) look for a scape goat. There were DEGREES of scape-goatism.
1. I'm persuaded that the great majority of Germans went along with Hitler (read Hitler's Willing Executioners).
2. The Poles were far, far less anti-Semitic; Hitler wasn't Polish. But the Church promoted the idea of Jews as Christ killers for centuries, which permeated the society (it USED TO BE SAID that they got their anti-S with their Mother's milk).
3. There was plenty of anti-Semitism in America. We had Hitler simpathizers (Lindberg!) and people talking about the "Jewish Problem". Rooseveldt knew of the killings in late 1942. He "looked the other way" according to Wyman (he was an anti-S himself) because didn't want to upset the voters who would be re-electing him.
So, Anti-S occurred in degrees. What a country did with it---the degree to which a people resisted it also occurred in degrees.
Believe me, scape-goating in the face of trouble is a mammalian trait. Humans, of course, can amplify the trait into societal catrastrophe. We must be constantly vigilant.
First, the Roma she portrayed were forced to do so in the same manner Dina Babbitt was. It's their legacy as it is her. It means evidence of their suffering which is oftenly omitted - the Gypsy organisations are supporting the Museum's decision. Why is their opinion notoriously not brought up? Second the Museum states that they own the paintings, the author property rights belong to Dina Bebitt. Finally the decision was made by International Auschwitz Council.

To make preposterous claims like this, we must have a citation. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
