Thanks for posting this video.Although I was a Cleveland fan in 1968, this Detroit team is without question my favorite of all time.McClain 30++ I loved watching St.Louis get beat. THANKS AGAIN. I am not in great health , and I love looking back on "BETTER TIMES ,
I was in the locker room as a reporter for ABC Sports (burgundy sport coat with tape recorder slung around my neck). As the team filed in you can see me watching for Al Kaline. My interview with Kaline was on ABC the next morning. I was thoroughly sprayed with champagne but avoided a dunking in the whirlpool tub. Wonderful memories. How cool to finally see this after 43 years. Thanks for posting this.
I feel old. I was too young to remember the world series but a couple of those guys were still playing by time I started going to ball games, like kaline and mickey stanley.
Excellent! Boston born, raised, & a Sox fan. But... Love the Tigers as well. Great storied team. '68 was incredible! Family still has an autographed ball from McClain when they came to Fenway during the regular season. What a team!
Kaline (22 years) , Freehan (15), Stanley (15) and Gates Brown (13) played their entire careers for the Tigers. Cash played 15 years for the Tigers, Horton 15, McAuliffe 14, Lolich 13, Northrup 11, and McLain 8. Nine players on the '68 roster who would spend 10+ years in the Tigers organization. You don't see that anymore.
I really miss fans coming out on the field during a postseason win. Nowadays, the local law forms a skirmish line on the perimeters ready to bash the head of somebody who dares steal a single souvenir blade of grass. So terribly depressing.
Boy this is fantastic footage. I went to 5 games that year, 4 of them pitched by McLain. I was in the center field bleachers when he won # 30 against the A's. The world series win is still my # 1 favorite memory of all time. Thanks for posting this sharkstv!
Somebody needs to catalog all the rare baseball video that exists. I've got a fairly large collection, but it's nowhere near complete. The MLB archives has a lot more, for sure. If only A&E would come out with more boxsets!
"Wer're going to win big, no fooling around"...Denny Mc Clain. Yeah right, the alcohalic bum almost blew it, and Mickey Lolich had to help dig the team out of a 3 games to 1 deficit. His career was washed up after this, then he went to prison for being a mafia strong arm goon. Way to predict things Denny lol
I'm sitting here watching through my tears....I was 12 years old then....It brings back such great memories. Thanks so much for posting this video!!!!
Joe Sparma clashed with Mayo Smith before that start and the doghouse continued with Mayo only pitching him only a third of a inning in the 1968 World Seris. Joe played football for Woody Hayes as QB. He lead them to an undefeated season in 1961 but after 1962, Joe quit the team after differences with Woody Hayes and focused on baseball.
Was just a kid when it happened but all the names are forever in my memory. Norm Cash was always my favorite. It was also great seeing George Kell again; what a voice and what a wonderful man. Thanks for putting this on YouTube!
If it weren't for Trammell Mickey Stanley would be the greatest starting shortstop in Tigers World Series history. I remember my dad crying when Kaline got that go ahead hit in the 5th game. If Mayo hadn't had the guts to move Stanley to short Kaline might not have had the chance.
I was an usher at Tiger Stadium in 68, 16 years old. Went to most of the home games that year. Too exciting for words. I've still got my Usher Badge and my TIger Yearbook with all the autographs.
@WSU85DET I grew up in Detroit in the 1960's. I was 10 when this happened, and I remember it like it was yesterday. As for the absence of names on the backs of their jerseys, the Tigers were afraid that people would not buy programs if the names were on the jerseys! I kid you not.
My first pro baseball game was Tiger Stadium July 19th, 1968. Tommy Matchick hit a homer in the ninth to win it. These videos bring back great memories for me...it was a dream year for a little kid who loved baseball. Thanks for the memories guys!
My first pro game was also 1968, in august i think. Denny mcclain pitched and the Tigers lost 6-0 to the white sox. When I came thru the tunnel and seen the green grass, awesome.
I met Bill Slaybacks Daughter a few nights ago. Had her Dads Tiger Jacket on. Talked about Baseball for hours. She knows Al Kaline,Erinie Harwell, and everyone else. Cool Girl.
I like to see the actual game when they clinched the pennant..

I've been a huge Tigers fan all my life, but I've seen so little of the 68 season, since it's the year I was born. This is PRECIOUS! GO TIGERS!

I am from that era and the cool thing about Mickey Lolich being the last interview is that he was the HERO of the world series!!!

1968 and 1969 were both great years for baseball. Two miracle World Series wins from the National League and American League.
Thank you for this upload.

I was at this game. I was 15 years old. I was noticing that the ushers had their green suits with hats and brims. I had forgotten that.
Thanks for the revisited memories. It is awesome

Dick McCaulife was a first class prick.
He tackled Tommy John of the White Sox and ended his season for no good reason. He also fought Bill Melton at second base .
