  • @thetricksandtips start with brackish water if not they get a really bad disease and their skin falls off. and a 55 gallon is huge you don't need something that big for a columbian shark. i started mine in a 10 gallon tank then upraded to a 30. and today upgraded to a 55. but if your starting at that size you should put community fish in their so it wont look so empty

  • @Nightmareee918 umm columbian sharks have to start with brackish water you can't have them in fresh water because they will get sick and their skin will fall off so never start them in fresh water. and you can pour the aquarium salt in the water directly with the fish in there its fine. ive had my sharks for 2 years take super good care of them they where my first fish.

  • what are they like with other fish??

  • @hgjfkdkds They do well, long as he fish arnt to small to fit in thier mouths right now im keeping mine with tiger barbs he should still be fine once the tigers are full gron but you need to just watch the size of thier tank mates

  • There is a local fish store that I visit once a week and they have columbian sharks and they are in fresh water well i am thinking of buying two when I buy them should my tank be freshwater or brackish?? the columbian shark/ catfish are 4 inches long

  • @thetricksandtips You should start with freshwater, and once they feel comfortable in their new tank you could start adding salt to the water when you do water changes. Like dissolve the salt in water in a separate bucket. Never put salt straight in the tank.

  • @Nightmareee918 Ok thank you for the help :)

  • could I keep one columbian shark in 55 gallon brackish water tank with no other fish or would it need a bigger tank?

  • hey do these guys need saltwater or is that a freshwater set up u got?thanks

  • @hitman7777777777 When they reach around 4-5 inches you should start adding salt. This is a brackish set up.

  • U making a liar out of me, I've raised These 4 over 20yrs, I know what They Get 2

  • @grandmistresserin226 You've been keeping them for over 20 years, so obviously you're over 20 years old. Yet your post looks like a middle-school kid just got a phone and is texting.

  • Alot bigger Than a Foot, 16-24 Inches

  • how big do they get

  • @SlifeKonn21 Normally 12", but sometimes a little more

  • I have** (forgive my english .. )

  • Beautiful fishes . Columbian Shark and Arius Jordani is it the same fish? I had two of them (arius jordani) in a 640 lt tank but i dont know when i must add salt .

  • I have a quick question i am thinking of getting one Columbian shark right now i have a 55 gallon fish tank how long would it take for them to out grow it and yes i already know when they become older they will need brackish water please tell me and your Columbian sharks/catfish look amazing

  • @TheJptoys Don't get just 1, they're schooling fish. And it would outgrow it in probably a year, 55s are too narrow.

  • @Nightmareee918 Thank you for the quick response i will get two or three and i will just buy a 125 gallon and use the 55 as a hospital tank just in case there are problems

  • how long did it take em to get that big??

im thinking of getting some (2-3) for my 100gal along with maybe some african cichlids....

  • @Mrjuanito4 A couple years- they're pretty slow growers. & That sounds good, but don't forget they need brackish water when they get older.

  • The also eat feeder fish not sure which used to have 2 the committed suicide! Jumped right out the tank...

  • They like bloodworms only feed every 3 days and don't put them in ten gallon their better off at the pet store

  • I just bought 1 of these what should i feed them? is bloodworms ok?

  • i want 1 of thoes columbian sharks but i only have a ten gallon tank should i get the columbian shark or not?? and how long did it take for that shark to get that big

  • @seafields562123 First off, you shouldn't only get one. They're schooling fish that do good with just each other. And a ten gallon could house 2-3 for a couple months. And you realize that they soon need salt in their water as they grow?

  • Do you have any hides for them?

  • @thehippo13 If you mean hiding places, no, I don't. When this tank was first set up years ago when it was freshwater there were hiding places like logs and driftwood etc. but they never took interest in them. They are constantly swimming or laying on the bottom, but they don't take interest in hiding places

  • @Nightmareee918 they will become stressed out becoause the feel exposed just buy some stupid decorations for em so they wont die...

  • @12898warrior They're not stressed due to lack of decorations. They're not stressed at all.

    Don't even bother arguing.

  • @Nightmareee918 Im not arguing fool im imforming....

they are FISH they need teritorry

  • @12898warrior Ok "fool"

Thanks, I didn't know they were FISH. And these fish do not need territory. They're schooling fish. I've had territories in the tank before converting it to brackish and they NEVER took interest in them. Ok fool?

  • awesome :D

  • cool so were did you buy them at and i heard that they get up to at least 10''

  • so thats the fully grown size

  • @1345tux The two columbian sharks in all my videos are the same fish. Here he is not fully grown, probably half way.

  • are these all the same sharks

  • @1345tux Yup
