You should run your geared engines slower, that is way to fast and unrealistic looking. I have operated real shay's climax's and heisler's they are best around 10 mph. Your layout looks fantastic! Makes me wish i could have something as elaborate as yours!
Nevermind....You answered my question in the video....Have you tried the NWSL re-gear kits? I've heard they quiet them down a little. The other thing is that you're running them VERY fast. I run mine at about a 1/3rd throttle or 1/2 TOPS. The level of noise is acceptable to me at that speed. I wouldn't run those as fast as you are.
How do you have other locomotives on the tracks and not receiving power to move... becusae at 3:57 you have a silver looking steam engine and its not moving can you explain that?
roundhouse shay can be made to run quieter by simply changing the truck using athearn power trucks and the roundhouse trucks outer frames ,,,or cut down a sw-7 chassice to fit.

The best place is a railroad swap meet if you can find one in your area. Check with a hobby shop. Ebay is also a good place. Look for things being sold in 'lots'.
my cp sd40-2 snoot it is sorta loud to i looked at the moter but i cant quiet my down too when i start posting videos please look at it maybe you can figure out my problem go to your local hobbie store thay can lubicate it or fix its problem

Slow your trains down..cuz Climax,Shays dont move that fast... everything things looks good.. im just wondering why u didnt connect all three when u were building them? instead of waitin till u had all three build it would have been easier
Very nice work, re the noise of the Climax and Shay,i don't think you should worry to much, as it adds to the realisim, as these Locos were noisy, best wishes with the link up of your 3 layouts.

There is no power to that track. I can turn the power on and off to side tracks with an on and off switch.
