1/3000th of a second is rubbish, movie reels average 25-29 frames per second....maybe less 50 years ago. if he were to put a message in only one frame....it would appear for 1/29th of a second.

He didn't add a frame to the reel, he used a separate "flash" system that would light up and burn out in that time

sorry mate, but i don't know of any chemical mixture that burns bright enough to light a message on a screen but quick enough to burn out in 1/3000 of a second. If you get a hold of such a compound...be sure to let me know. Because with that fast of an acceleration, you'd have something more powerful than TNT!
