i am not sure if DKM are unionists or nationalists when it comes to the issue of NI-but the song WHich side r u on? is not about the conflict in NI or about being unionists or nationalists in that regard. The union he is referring to, in the song, is a worker's union-hes saying his father was a miner and to stand up for workers rights aganist exploitation.

You have to remember that DKM are American so the term unionist doesn't really apply to Ireland. By being unionists, they support labor unions here in America.
