this reminds me of 2 kids in the back seat of a car saying, don't touch me, you touched me first, no you touched me first, don't touch, MOM!!!!!!! Billy's touching, uh uh, uh huh, no i didn't, wah wah wah!
You can’t have a “private meeting” in a public space because there is no legal expectation of privacy in public! Obstructing photographers in a public space like these fellows were doing is unethical harassment.
From what I've seen of the OWS movement, it is pretty much a cross section of the country.There seems to be a number of photographers and reporters that are seeking out winos and people that should be in psychiatric institutes talking out of their minds about what they want. I wouldn't want to be photographed either. Screw those cameramen anyway.
Yeah, they probably should be embarrassed and cover their faces. The entire ows movement is littered with hypocrisy. The guy is recording while telling others to stop recording...nice.
This has happened to me a few times. When you dont see things their way or say and do what they want, this is how they act. Funny how they say they are open and welcome all people, but then act like this towards photographers.
Yeah I don't agree with the guys blocking your cameras. With that said, I've spent an awful lot of time over at Occupy LA and this is the first instance I've seen of anything like this. I'm guessing these guys are just being paranoid, because they are discussing what to do during the raid. Don't paint us all with one broad stroke though.
It happened the day before. One guy got two inches from face and said we need to take a walk. I told him to back up because I'm not gonna. Unfortunately, my Vievu is not mounting so I'm sending it in for recovery. If the file is recovered, it will be posted and you will see 6 guys surrounding me because I took still images of their "private" meeting being held in public space.
True, but you should let these people know that they're self-righteous hypocritical behavior is unacceptable. And if you ever see this happening, you should speak up against them and support photographers. Also, behavior like this causes people to stop supporting the movement.
Thank you for not backing down.

They're being sought out because it's true. Occupy LA has become a homeless refuge camp and is now home to many former Skid Row occupants.
There is also rampant alcohol and drug use in the camp.

@Kengikat
Yes, it's a bunch of wannabe Stanford Prison Experiment guard types running around with white bands around their arms trying to order people around.

I have one guy on camera saying restricting the media is okay, even though they're all in public space and don't have an expectation of privacy.

They also revert to name calling when they have nothing else after you don't kowtow to their BS.

Also notice how it's two guys doing this, while another one of the occupiers is asking them to stop.

No they're for real. I suggest you go there and try it for yourself and see what happens.

@discarted I'd love to but I live in Finland unfortunately. This kind of ignorance just seems too far out to be real :)
