It's not illegal, you can use any recoil sping you want. It's also not dangerous unless you use the spring out of your ballpoint. I will point out that the 1st time he tried it, the mag fell out, and they let him "redo". With the requirement of picking up 2 items off the table and moving 10 yards to the first target, this is a good strategy if you got a couple months to practice it!!
Holy Crow! Thats hard to believe but I guess its possible. I thought it was impossible for me to split a playing card but I eventually did - even backwards with a mirror, but this is incredible.
I tried with my g23 & xdm 9mm but all I did was make my arm sore. Very cool indeed.
I see how he racked the slide by whipping his arm back. As long as you are applying enough force, you can get any pistol to do that, maybe even anything else that is spring recoil. Again I say, by applying enough force. If anyone were able to do that to a M2 .50cal, that is someone you would not want to mess with.
@f0xmuld3r was stating the hypothetical. Again, if someone has the strength and speed, I am sure that they can get a .50 AE Desert Eagle to do what the man in the video is doing with a 1911. The recoil springs in a 1911 are as low as 9 lbs and as high as 24 lbs. Since the DE slide can be pulled back by one hand, I am sure that the tension of the recoil assembly would allow the same trick as seen above to be done. Also, DEs can be customized with lighter springs, just like any other pistol.
@WesOrion Hypothetically speaking I can pigs fly. But the question is: can they fly? No, they can't so your assumption is completely false until you can prove it right. I.e. show me the proof?
I've seen the Philipino dude rack his as well. I tried it once and managed to get it working. Really difficult to do and it hurts the arms. Totally possible with a production firearm. The technique is to generate momentum when you pull it back, then to snap forward really hard. This impulse (change in momentum) will allow the slide to cycle. Go and try it...
@Singlestack That is not a USPSA Production division legal gun. This guy is shooting a G24 .40 cal. SW in Limited Division (Note the extremely long slide and extra capacity basepad on the mag, neither of which is Production legal). These guns are generally heavily modified, including reduced power recoil springs (true even of Production division guns). Give the skill set of this guy, I highly doubt his gun is stock. Regardless of spring weight, it takes a ton of skill to pull this move off.
For anyone who actually does this sport, they will know just how difficult this is to do. I am a female USPSA shooter and this is just beyond amazing skill!! This is possible to do for those of you who doubt what he did, it just takes mad skills!
OK, I just learn how to do this on a stock glock. First you have to rack the slide UNLOADED. Then do the exact same thing he did on the video. Insert the magazine and do the one handed jerk thing.
@Singlestack Did I even impart any information or theory in my query? All I asked for was an explanation "how come? explain why." All of a sudden you go hating. Well... I guess that's how the uneducated masses are. I can never get used to it.
Reedo302, Singlestack is right, you're an idiot who has no clue. Rob can do it with with any Glock with any spring. Hell, even I can do it with a stock Glock 17.
As for the authenticity of this video, I won't bother seriously speculating. The gun is never field stripped, neither is the recoil spring tested on a W&M certified gauge.
@ Singlestack: I am not saying he was or wasn't using a stock spring. I personally believe this IS possible with an even heavier spring rate. Achieving a solid battery may be an issue however. Those familiar with Bruce Lee's "one inch punch" debates will be quite sympathetic to discussions such as these. Impossible, for some.
A math minded individual could work out a formula just to "ballpark" the feasibility of this method. Something like: mass (of slide) + velocity (linear motion of arm) = Ke. Just a rough equation. If my terms are incorrect, so be it. I think I got the idea across. Hypothetically if our arms can generate enough linear kinetic energy to accelerate the mass of the slide high enough to defeat the springs compression rate, this is very much within the realm of possibility. (continued)
Could the average person rack a round in this way? Possibly. But not with this amount of ease. A guy in the Philippines does this also, and he admits his is a race gun. In terms of this video, I know when I'm looking at a race gun. I used to know a lot of guys that said stuff was "stock". I also know that there's a lot of cheating in IDPA, USPSA and other "practical" shooting competitions. I've never had any spring weighed by range staff. Not once.
The gun he has is a race gun. Even with the long slide, one cannot chamber a round using a stock recoil spring. The spring he has is a lighter spring. Race guns are designed to use light springs and light loads. Faster shots and less recoil. You can tell he's using light loads. Stock springs are too stiff, and that's to not only handle heavy duty loads, but also a safety issue since a light recoil spring allowing the slide to come back like that is dangerous when unintended.
I've done this, only once as I suck, with a stock with a stuck recoil spring gun. If I can do it, anyone can do it. And if someone is skilled at it, they can do it repeatedly. I've noticed striker fired guns are a little easier, as they don't have to cock the hammer's mainspring along with compressing the recoil spring. But I believe this has been done with hammered guns as well.
I tried it with my Taurus 92 with the hammer back, I even tried using my palm to hit the frame to chamber a round, must be a Glock thing because I damn near fucked up my hand.. palm is hurting not and my Taurus pt92 didn't chamber shit.. haha.
i met this guy today in spartenburg sc. hes very nice, very professional, and very fast. I shoot a cz and kahr so a ninja cock isn't in my ablity as far as my pistols.
What you are seeing in the video is him chambering a round with one hand by using inertia and related forces. He's snatching his arm back rapidly and then rapidly propelling it forward. As you can guess, being that the slide is only being held in battery by spring pressure, such a rapid change of direction will cause the slide to go through its range of motion, thus chambering a round. Understand?
Stop saying that, you are mistaken. This CAN be done with a factory recoil spring. I've done it, so have dozen of other people. It's not "easy" at all, it's all about the technique really, and just takes practice. This topic has been discussed on many different forums, and there's a video on YouTube somewhere detailing how this was done, and on several different Glock pistols. I didn't believe it at first, until I picked up my G22 and gave it a stab.
If the hammer is already back it requires a lot less force to chamber the round (as it doesnt have to pull the hammer back when you pull the slide back).
Take an empty gun, no mag, pull the slide back, don't press the trigger... then put the mag in, do the motion he does (back then forth) and it will chamber a round.
@eldudio- You do realize that Glocks do not have a hammer but an internal firing striker ? Your idealogy about having the hammer back doesn't mean shit to this video as Glock doesn't have an external hammer but an internal firing striker. Your comment fails big my friend.
Yes of course I know that.. why would I comment if I didnt? The point is that that the hammer/striker (whatever you want to split hairs on) has to be pulled back on the cycle, whether it's internal or external... which is a large portion of the force needed to pull the slide back.
@eldudio - Uhh It isn't really splitting hairs dude its 2 completely different types of firing system.. A hammer that uses the blow back to re-cock the hammer takes more pressure to re-cock than an internal firing striker.
An annoying comment to initially post on but since you mentioned a hammer and glock I didn't know if you knew what you were talking about..
If that's the level of detail you have to go to to make massage your ego then whatever. Point is you're totally missing the point and picking me up on details I'm not even talking about.
Like most people who know about guns, I know that a glock does not have an external hammer, it's common knowledge. I think it's very petty that you're picking me up on that when I'm talking about guns in general.
For example, I was talking to someone about this and he managed to do it with his XDM..
Not only that, I never specified 'a glock' ... I clearly said "take a gun"... speaking in generalities..
It's just like when you see fighter jet and you say "Thats an F15" and someone 'corrects' you and says "actually no it's an F15E" ... it just annoys people.
Buck- Friend, you are the rare commodity. Rare indeed on you tube. A man who thinks he might be wrong- then actually does some hands on research to find out the truth- then is man enough to admit he was wrong- You are to be commended. Kudos to you! It's the world of youtube. If you see something and you don't believe it then IT'S IMPOSSIBLE NO MATTER WHAT. It's amazing how many people think they are right.
Singlestack- Questions-Did he win the stage because of the cool one handed chambering? Was the stage designed around the trick? Why start empty handed, carry the case, shoot 1 handed for a short period, lose case, shoot 2 handed for a while? In the scenario, the case is important enough that you have to run with it and shoot simulated bad guys, Why then leave it? I know it is a match and and not intended to be ultra realistic Obviously he is a talented shooter. You guys IPSC IDPA 0r USPSA?
If you had watched ZOMBIELAND that kind of reload was used while he is inside the booth and he is holding 2 guns, if not for hes ability to reload that way he could had been dead before the movie ends. I would say that reload technique is very important. and a MUST for shooters very usefull and super cool at the same time. period
You are advocating firearms reload techniques from the ACTOR Woody Harrelson? By the way- I have been to that theme park (Wild Adventures, Valdosta,GA.) dozens of times, and I must say the Zombies are really terrible.
Woody, was hitting the slide stop lever, to release the locked slide, not racking the slide. This Glock is racking the slide to load. Who knows how this guy is doing it, but there he is. Given that I've never even heard of anyone doing this before seeing THIS video, I gotta say, it's not really a MUST.
Just kidding :) Very cool video, was there any modification that you know of that allowed him to be able to do that? Doesn't seem like something that would be able to happen without some kind of mod, but nonetheless, I applaud his Ninja Skillz.
Instead of saying something is IMPOSSIBLE, why don't you get out your glock and make it POSSIBLE? As for USPSA attitude, yeah we're the guys who look at problems presented by a course of fire and try and find all the POSSIBILITIES!
You too can rock at whatever you wish if only you put your all into it and try and ROCK IT!
I have tried till it hurts to think of doing it anymore. My hat is off to Rob I just wish I had the time and discipline to master this awesome time saving trick.
We all know Mr. Impossible isn't actually going to come to a match and see this in person. Coming to a match would mean WAY too much risk he might actually learn something.
Well that pretty much confirmed what all the competition guys here already know. We won't be seeing Mr. Impossible at a match. I'll bet we can find him dispensing plenty of wisdom at the gun store though.
"Simply physically impossible". There's that impossible word again. And it probably is impossible to the average gun store commando. Skillsets that are "IMPOSSIBLE" to mall ninjas are just AVERAGE skillsets to USPSA shooters. Get used to it. Better yet, get off your false ego and shoot a match. You might learn something from guys like Singlestack, that is, if your tender gun guru ego can handle it. This man burns more ammo in a month than "Mr. Impossible" has in a lifetime.
Singlestack, if you are claiming this is a "stock" spring as in "service grade weight", and that this pistol was chambered ONLY by the inertia from the speed of a HUMAN hand moving pushing foward, then it's BS.
Again, if you are implying this is a "normal" gun and spring, BS.
I will be glad to meet you at the AL/GA line with a stock GLOCK. If I am wrong, I will gladly pay for your gas and post an apology for the privilege of seeing this in person. It will be most impressive.
The video clip is not of me. I can not do it either. If you care to see it in person, simply come to any USPSA match in the area and the fellow in the video will be happy to show you in person. Be careful who you call BS. It is a normal Glock 35 and spring. Bring your gun and he will do it with yours. Again, I am not "implying" that this is a normal gun and spring, I am stating it as a fact.

In the scenario, the case is important enough that you have to run with it and shoot simulated bad guys, Why then leave it? I know it is a match and and not intended to be ultra realistic Obviously he is a talented shooter. You guys IPSC IDPA 0r USPSA?

The stage was designed to get people to shoot strong hand on the move and it worked well for this, it was USPSA and it was a stage win.

If you had watched ZOMBIELAND that kind of reload was used while he is inside the booth and he is holding 2 guns, if not for hes ability to reload that way he could had been dead before the movie ends. I would say that reload technique is very important. and a MUST for shooters very usefull and super cool at the same time. period
randolfsantillan 2 years ago
You are advocating firearms reload techniques from the ACTOR Woody Harrelson? By the way- I have been to that theme park (Wild Adventures, Valdosta,GA.) dozens of times, and I must say the Zombies are really terrible.
sbd45acp 2 years ago 3
Woody, was hitting the slide stop lever, to release the locked slide, not racking the slide. This Glock is racking the slide to load. Who knows how this guy is doing it, but there he is. Given that I've never even heard of anyone doing this before seeing THIS video, I gotta say, it's not really a MUST.
curtmg 2 years ago
has he pre cocked the firing pin? i cant imagine he could do this without it.
TheBlueMeanie 2 years ago
No.
Singlestack 2 years ago
i tested this out. it works w/o pre-cocking.

Singlestack, i did a slow mo edit to help show that this is legit... could you approve it as a response? thanks.
TheBlueMeanie 2 years ago

its a G34 yeah? im so going to go home and try this with my G17. Is it a factory gun?
NZPumpkin1 2 years ago
I've posted two videos of myself doing this. My Video Responses haven't been approved.
I did it with a stock Glock 23, and 35. I tried it with a HK and it worked but I couldn't get a Sig to budge.

Bad ass.
timothyg413 2 years ago
Obviously photoshopped.
Just kidding :) Very cool video, was there any modification that you know of that allowed him to be able to do that? Doesn't seem like something that would be able to happen without some kind of mod, but nonetheless, I applaud his Ninja Skillz.
jaymp24 2 years ago
No mods, just prcticed it till I could do it.
mr50mag 2 years ago

34driver 2 years ago
Like he can't shoot? ;)
Singlestack 2 years ago
Well that pretty much confirmed what all the competition guys here already know. We won't be seeing Mr. Impossible at a match. I'll bet we can find him dispensing plenty of wisdom at the gun store though.
34driver 2 years ago
"Simply physically impossible". There's that impossible word again. And it probably is impossible to the average gun store commando. Skillsets that are "IMPOSSIBLE" to mall ninjas are just AVERAGE skillsets to USPSA shooters. Get used to it. Better yet, get off your false ego and shoot a match. You might learn something from guys like Singlestack, that is, if your tender gun guru ego can handle it. This man burns more ammo in a month than "Mr. Impossible" has in a lifetime.
34driver 2 years ago
Sad to see attitudes like this. This is what turned me off to USPSA in the first place.
jason237m 2 years ago
I've seen some poor attitude out of the IDPA crowd, usually directed USPSA.
I suggest you read 34driver's statement more like this, "skill-sets that are impossible for the mall ninja are just average to competition shooters."
If your an competition shooter of any experience you are much better than the joe who shootss static once a mo.
I think we could agree on that. Don't you?

Singlestack, if you are claiming this is a "stock" spring as in "service grade weight", and that this pistol was chambered ONLY by the inertia from the speed of a HUMAN hand moving pushing foward, then it's BS.
That is simply physically impossible.
zoyter2 2 years ago
Just because it is beyond YOUR ability does not make it impossible.
The recoil spring is a stock Glock recoil spring assembly.
Singlestack 2 years ago
Again, if you are implying this is a "normal" gun and spring, BS.
I will be glad to meet you at the AL/GA line with a stock GLOCK. If I am wrong, I will gladly pay for your gas and post an apology for the privilege of seeing this in person. It will be most impressive.
zoyter2 2 years ago
The video clip is not of me. I can not do it either. If you care to see it in person, simply come to any USPSA match in the area and the fellow in the video will be happy to show you in person. Be careful who you call BS. It is a normal Glock 35 and spring. Bring your gun and he will do it with yours. Again, I am not "implying" that this is a normal gun and spring, I am stating it as a fact.
Singlestack 2 years ago
how many lb spring does he have in it?

This comment has received too many negative votes show
If the trigger ever catches in his shirt material, his gun will torque towards his chin and he will either discover a fast way to shave or a new way to appear as a guest on the "1000 Ways to Die" show.

The gun has a stock recoil spring in it.
Singlestack 2 years ago
My guess is a spring out of a ballpoint pen ?!

What does he have in that thing, a 2-pound recoil spring?
