Typically the prefrontal lobes which control impulses, seat of rationality and all, does not fully develop till after age 27. He started killing at 22. In some max security prisons, nothing is done prior to age 27, at which time evaluations occur and based on the results they either start rehabilitative efforts, or throw away the key if there's been no development. I think in his case he did develop. The ability to "say no" to one's impulses is "free won't" or the opposite of "free will".

The truth is that people do change in that they age. Many people who have spent many years in prison are truly different people. They may not always change for the better but often they do become much better people. They become better than many of the people who manage the prisons; wiser, calmer and more gentle.  As the character played by Morgan Freeman in "Shawshank" said "I wish I could talk to that boy (meaning himself as a young man) but he just isn't there anymore."

Alright, so here's what I'm thinking... Usually, when someone is trying to deceive someone else, they are trying to obtain some kind of benefit. In the case of a prisoner, it would be to get out of prison.

So, to those here bent on saying David is a liar or whatever, can you explain how that squares with him declining parole hearings and stating publicly he deserves the sentence he's under? Don't you think he'd be trying to con us so we'd let him go free? Where's the motivation? I don't see it.

What you see is a man that acknowledges his crimes, and has confessed them, blames no one but himself and loves Jesus. He was not in a clear mental state either when he committed these crimes, as he is now. I think he is being honest.
