  • how old is dusty? good run btw! :)

  • Great turns:) Nice run! Don't liston to the haters, they just don't have your skill, your cute horse, or your nice runs:)

  • You swivel to much while your on him...and you make your turns to wide. Make them tight and smooth.

  • awesome rounds! better then i ever did.(i just started:) dont listen to the crit, just keep doing what ur doin and keep riding! gorgeous horse by the way! holy bejibers! they should make a breyer out of him!

  • ALSO check out FALLON TAYLOR. she has a youtube account and has a lot of useful free tips. She is a multiple PRCA champ so she is credible.

  • I noticed on ur 1st practice run that coming out of the 3rd he was wide. One thing that helps me Keep a tight 3rd is when doing your slow work wrap all the way around the third like instead of coming straight home go towards the side of the arena on the outside of the first barrel between the barrel and the wall..If ttht makes sense :P & it sets you up for a continious pattern excercise which i love to work at a long trot. BEST OF LUCK!

  • beautiful horse doin good!

  • pretty horse ♥ dusty

  • Supppppppper pretty horse!!:) and you did great! ignore all the mean comments! every barrel horse can go with a little improvement even the best ones! there is never a flawless barrel run. some peole just need to shut their mouths! i think you did realllllly good:)just keep working on it! it looks great so far! just remember more speeeeeeeeeed!!!:) haha but great job!

  • Great run. Your horse is super pretty :)

  • great runs!!! :)

  • good job!

i totally agree with you about how if you use spurs or a whip, it doesnt do any damage unless you use them the wrong way.

and im pretty sure you used em the perfect way!!! :D

  • ive watched her other video and she said she only use spurs in training not in real barrel racing because they listen better

  • that was a really good run for being off

  • Spurs aren't used as punishment, they are used to enhance a riders command, almost every great rider i've ever seen or met use spurs. And whips aren't used to hurt a horse, they are used to remind a horse that their jobs isn't done yet until I say it is... You look like a great rider, nice posture and seat. Your horse has a beautiful stride, nice turns :)

  • I want your pony. .3.

Im starting my mare on barrels and she seems to do pretty good at it for no formal training. xD

  • Wow ur really good!ur turns r really nice and sharp!!!and ppl...just bc she is riding with spurs doesn't mean that she's jabbing them in!she even mentions in another vid that she uses spurs ONLY for training!!!!!!

  • Nbha rider ?

  • Alright evryone, listen. 1st; I would like to say that u r a great rider nd just ignore all of these ignorant ppl that obviously hav nthing else better 2 do wit their lives than critisize you. 2nd; When using spurs, you are not jabbing them, spurs r made 2 spin for a reason. Wen making contact the spur rolls up the sides of the horse, not jabbing them. Finally; using a whip or spurs does not mean that u r hurting ur horse, it depends on the rider nd how they r used.Get over yourselves.. keep ridn

  • @Krystal775 Thank you. I just wish everyone would realize how pointless it is to criticize on someone halfway across the world from you. It seems incredilbly unnecessary and really just plain mean. I leave everyone alone and let them ride their horse the way they want. Why can't anyone do the same? I dont go out and post bitchy comments. Life must really suck if thats what the majority of ppl are down too. There is no more respect in the world. But thanks Krystal for sticking up for me

  • I'm sure your horse would go without the spurs. And you think you are way better than you actually are. My horse would kick you.

  • @blueandelvis13 wow. arrogant. all i said was he needed more practice. why dont you be a bitch more while your at it. Im glad you think your horse could kick me. Good for you. Self-esteem is good for this sport.

  • umm to "spur uses", you dont use spurs in barrel racing because you tend to kick hard alot, imagine kicking with spurs its like someone poking something sharp into the sides of your guts :/ Only thing I can pick up is just keep working on juding the distances :) great horse and rider. Every secong counts

  • I Love Love Love Love Dusty's Build!!

This isn't a critique, but it may help You. For the first barrel, try going into the pocket at a slant, not straight on. It could get you closer to the barrel, but without knocking it over.

Your second barrel turns out really well. After you get out of the second turn it looks like you are curving to the last barrel. Try keeping a straight line for that barrel as well.

    Over all, Good Job! (:

  • Sorry girl, your really good, but your gonna wear your horse down from barrels. Don't run him when your practicing. Just trot and lope.

  • Cool. Dusty's a pretty horse.

  • your barrels are really small love dusty though :)

  • @polebender160 thanks. their not my barrels. they just belong to the arena. and its not my arena. its the towns lol

  • your horse is really amazing. but i would say. Lay off the barrels for a little bit, but not always. keep him on a balenced diet and just work him well. Hes a little round. I bet you, if he where in a bit better shape he would be a 2D-3D runner (:

  • @cowgirlskickass7628 she's not hurting the horse horses are very strong and the whip is used for to make the horse go faster that's why they make it duhhh

  • @kyleekowgirl i am good at barrels but you can't just learn on the computer you have to go to somebody in person and go on an actual horse to learn it

  • Learn how to hold a camera

  • wow.. your good... and to all those people sayin "your hurtin" the horse... they are stupid... most anything else i can think of at this moment could hurt them WORSE! btw u ride awesome lol

  • @horselover101x thanks!

  • your great you shouldnt let people get to you. they obvioulsy have no idea what their talking about.

  • What the hell! Why do you use a whip and hurt the horse! Just buy spurs! Omfg all you do with spurs is litghtly touch the horse and they'll go faster! Duhhh

  • @cowgirlskickass7628 wow relax. everyone knows spurs can do more damage than a whip to a horse. get your facts straight spaz.

  • @cowgirlskickass7628 i use a quirt when i barrel race too. it doesnt hurt the horse u kno, there hide id so tuff (and if u do it right) it just means "speed it up a little bit"

  • @cowgirlskickass7628 A whip is more effective for some horses so your not slamming into there sides all the time! like my horse she hates spurs because they hurt her sides and i use the gentle nubs and she trys to buck me off so obv there not more effective on some horses dumbass

  • @cowgirlskickass7628 the whip does not hurt a horse unless you over use it.besides some horses respond better to a whip then they do to spurs.so just chill!! some people use different methods of training its thier horese they know how thier horse will respond

  • If you'd take advice from others and more humble you'd get farther in life and barrel racing.

  • Are any of you really good barrel racers? I need some help... I wanna learn to barrel race =P

  • your really good, and very lucky to have your own horse :)

  • OMG guys shut up with all the "your hitting your horse!? omg ive been training barrel horses for 13 yerars! don hit ur horse!"

    seriously SHUT UP

obviously its an over under whip and if u really were a "trainer" u would know that!!!!!

no one cares about your opinion! let her ride the way she wants to ride bc to me shes doing pretty damn well with whatever method she uses!

  • Ya um no offense but your suppose to switch hands when you barrel race like when you go to your first barrel your suppose to use your right hand to turn dusty then when you go to your last two barrels use your left hand

  • lol i know how you feel i have a horse thats the same way just keep up the good work,

  • Comment removed

  • ya i figured that out lol this was two years ago. normally i figure out my mistakes. um, no i use both versions always and always train both versions. this gelding preferred neck reining since he was a reiner and spun quick off the rein.

  • @BestGoat they dont need to stop completely to turn a barrel.. they rate it with their hind end.

  • @CelticTears101 That is not always true, I raise barrels horses, and some horses like to stop right before the barrel, so don't critize the rider when you don't know the horse.

  • alright, thank you, (:

  • nice run...ya i have one that likes to knock the barrels..........a good exercise i use is coast through one time then walk/trot through when you get to the barrel turn away from the barrel go to th 2nd turn away then go to 3rd and turn away........it really helps my retard cuase he like to stop and roll back on the turns. :)

  • he's adorable!! your lucky to have him :) good barrel training. my horse is so sensitive with the reins. Any Advice??

  • Hey, I have a question. I bought some cheap medicine boots from Tractor Supply and I'm not happy with the at all. I've been looking at some Professional Choice SMB Elite Medicine boots & overreach boots and they seem like they'd work really well. But I've also been looking at Classic Equine's Legacy boots, do you have any suggestions for those two? I'm really wanting the Prof. Choice but I just need some advice :) Thank you so much.

And I did the figure 8 pattern, it's workin so far :)!

  • Comment removed

  • Pro Choice Elites are great but only if they have the American Flag on them! I have a pair made in the USA and a pair made overseas/ china, the china ones don't have the same materials (feel cheap, almost card board like and velcro doesnt hold up). I also have a pair of Classic Equine and love them too. They are just a tad bit bulkier than the Elites but do just as good of job.

  • a horse will start anticipating that hitting and he won't like it, he can buck or refuse to go. when ur running home you get him really moving wih ur legs. instead of whipping him, hold on to that horn with a death grip and ask with ur legs. riding is all about ur aids, whips and spurs and shit like that are for folks who know there horse is lazy. so before u go and whip ur horse, give him the bettter judgement. training is about working along with that horse with ur body/aids

  • sorry i ride how i want. its mylife

  • @BestGoat This horse shoulders, your problem i dont think is wanting to hit the barrels. hes just setty, and shoulders

  • your horse is doin very well, but i have been training barrel horses for about 5 years; and you can shave a good 2 or 3 seconds off your time if you make sure he finishes his turn coming out of the second barrel; he is taking it really wide coming out of the second barrel and going into the third barrel! everything else looks great, just remember as soon as you get into your barrel to look at the next barrel! good luck!!

  • but y did u hit dusty hard?

  • omfg did u see her hitting that horse with that whip when he already was runny so fast. I feel bad for Dusty.

  • lol suck it. and trust me he could have went so much faster. ur just too arrogant to not see that. blah.

  • lol, sorry im kinda new at riding, and i want to learn how to barrel race. How do u know if the horse is a good barrel horse?

  • if ur new, dont start criticizing ppl who has been doin it for years.its not a good impression on you.i didnt hit dusty hard. its an over under whip.they're created to make noise with no pain.

  • ok now i got it im very srry. do u mind giving me some hints about barrel racing?

  • Heyyy you know when you train you could walk as sooon as you turn the last barrel so they don't anticipate the run home ;)

  • It is kinda dumb for someone to critize a video of a horse in TRAINING, because there is certain stufft that you have to do to get their mind thinking, Also you might make mistakes on purpose, so you can correct them and show him not to do them. And your just going to make alot of mistakes when working with a horse that you are training... So of course you can sit here and find lots of things to critize, but whats the point really??

I think that he is doing very well!

  • wow, that made a lot of sense lol. and thank you so much :)

  • you need to look at your next barrels your throwing him off, ecspecially the way you are holding your arms when going around the barrels....

  • And my Horse Dusty is fat and lazy, too. haha :P

  • haha awesome. My horse, Dusty, she always bucks after the third barrel, lol

  • aah, i would love to get into barrell racing. i have an arabian paint, and hes so fast and has so much energy, he gets so hot so quickly though. haha.

plus he just turned 8 years old and he cant side step or pivot, kinda sad. haha. i've only had him for a few months though and im not used to his speed, i've fallen off twice so far, both times loping/cantering. blahh. haha.

  • Wow he can move for an outta shape horse. I wouldn't call him "slow" at all! He actually has respectable speed.

  • haha thanks ! :)

  • He is a very nice horse!

  • hey...does this mean i can criticize?? hehe ive ridden him..:) jk !

  • lol help ur self jen. keyboards alllll urs :P

  • That Horse Is Gorgeous! :]

Pretty G00d Run For How Round He Is..Haha. :D

  • Not bad at all for a fat man. heh heh heh. He looks to be in about the same shape as my boy. But shoot, for being a little round, he sure can run! Good job! How did you do at the rodeo?

  • lol um...wow that was a while ago...o right. it was cypress river rodeo and i didn't end up bringing him. i brought twister and marc because i think he went down with heaves :( but we got one the last weekend of september. we messed up but he ran great anyways :)

  • WOW ur really good i was wondering i have a three year old horse i would like to barrel race but she has no experience around it so what should i start her out with ?

  • i would start with just doing basic horseman manuevers on her back. sidestep her, pivot, flex, and all that fancy stuff and then when she is four you could start conditioning her or lightly patterning her and when she is five you can begin the real training. its normally what i do with my horses, but u could do different with urs :) good luck!

  • and um, im not realy trying to be in yours and "turnnbburn84's" conversation about Canada or anything, but i was just wondering if Canada and the U.S has the same music and movies/videos? sorry, you guyz just started talking about how you live in Canada so i decided to ask.

  • lol, yeah, it's EXACTLY the same in that category. same music, tv shows, clothing :P not too much is different, mostly politics and weather :P:P lol.

  • WoW cute horse, you done a really good job too!! and the girl recording sounds just like this girl in my school.

  • awsome barrel horse and ur an awsome rider. wuts it like living in canada? im from the u.s.

  • haha. we have an insanely long winter. too hot summers...too cold winters. its windy most of the time:P:P but i love it and i wouldn't want to move anywhere. and thanks :) i luv the u.s. i've been there a few times. haha.

  • really thats cool. where in the u.s have you been? and more random questions haha is canada cheaper than the u.s for like houses and taxes and stuff ? lol i know random but i wnana kno (:

  • hmm...i think i've been to Rolla in North Dakota...cant remember the rest....about the houses and taxes and everything. i couldn't tell ya at alll....srry. i cant keep up with the money going back and forth to canada and us :P lol

  • oh well I know but I still do mine on barrels about 5times a day but we take breaks in between and we dont do it everyday but almost everyday...but I aint gonna compete on her she is just for fun:]

  • o wow. yeah. dusty's pretty high competitive tho. only spring do i really train him for like 2 weeks, not every day tho. like twice a week. but i trained him here because he just recovered from an injury and needed refreshing. lol.

  • how many times do u run him a day?

  • nothing. i dont even run him once a week. lol.

  • y???

  • he knows wat to do already. if i run him too many times, it'll wreck him really fast. he'll want to do absoutely nothing around barrels and then i would've lost him.

  • ha he is like my horse she seems to wanna knock em and all she is trying to do is hugem..and she hits the second one everytime we run em:] how long was he trotting the pattern befor u run him on it??or lopped him?

  • um...idk...i didn't train him. lol.

  • oh well he is doin good and I am with u he will be faster when he gets in shape

  • my mare is the same way. just drive past them barrels he looks great.

  • i love him!!!

    he is pretty!!

he does a good job tooo

    so do you!

    hehe :) <3

  • lol...thanks so much! XDXD

  • good job! he reminds me of my friends horse named johnny! lol X)

    heres the dealio...

im going to be putting up a barrel racing video of me and mini (my horse; i have no idea when tho)and i would seriously appreciate it if you are someone w/ some kind of experience to critique me. i really am trying to improve, but me and mini still have problems. i would really appreciate it if someone would! X) X) thanks!

    p.s- B-E-A-UTIFUL HORSE! good job too!!!!! X) X) X) X) X) X) X) X) X) X) X) X)

  • really good!!!

  • yeah you dont need to get all offensive ok! didnt mean to hurt your ego or nothing- i was just trying to help since that IS what you wrote in your info box. No hard feelings meant by what i said before ;)

  • srry, i didn't ask for help. i said no advice unless u have ridden this horse. i dont have any hard feelings. thnx tho :D

  • hope you 2 the best in the future!

  • okay :) cool. good job

  • good job. but yuu shoudln't wip yuu horse with yuur reins or whatever yuu were using. but good job

  • its an over and under whip. it doesn't matter if u hit him. he doesn't feel it, its the loud SMACK that tells him to keep going. but thnx.

  • Gosh is he gorgeous!

You two are great, and nice tight turns.

But I have one thing to say, actually, it's more of a question. I hope I'm not giving off an impression that I 'know it all' because I really don't intend to. I just like to help.

Anyway, the question. Do you always run your horse through the gate when you practice barrels? If you do, it could cause your horse to be gate sour.

  • i mix it up. sometimes i do, sometimes i dont. dusty already is gate sour whenever i bring him to a rodeo. im not sure why he does that, my reiner instructor told me he must have a had a bad expierence at a rodeo near the gate and got scared. cause, during practice, he'll charge right in. but anyways, thnx

  • Ah. At the competitions you go to, do they allow you to ride in the area when they drag? If they do, it's a good way to get him use to going in an out of it.

Reining instructor? You do reining too. That's cool.

  • some allow me too. some don't. but ususually i dont hang around the arenas, im normally somewhere else. haha. i found out he's reacting to the atmosphere 'mood' thing. everyone is tense and excited and nervous and he's sensitive to that sort of thing. but w.e. haha, yeah. i rein and cut cattle too :)

  • yea he's back!!!!!!!!!!

  • you and your sunglasses....:P

  • i thought you two looked good! :D:D:D little miss alice and your sunglasses. haha.

  • haha, yeppp. as usual :P ty! <3

  • hes really cute! no offence but he was a lil slow...but still good!

  • i no. he's still very fat and this was my second time galloping and i wasn't pushing him as much.

  • His first barrel looked awesome! Great job!

  • good job:D

  • I am the ninth viewer! XD

    he is so awesome!

  • He's soo cute! Great ride
