Look I'm a security forces troop active duty air force, the war in Iraq is something beyond our control. My position was once like many of you anti military activists until I was backed into a corner and the only way out was the military. It opened my eyes to the realism of what our nations troops do here and in the war zones. In Iraq we are there to protect and help rebuild, we don't attack at random we aren't paid assassins we are there for other nations that do not have the military resources

Enlisted soldiers are paid and trained by the government, their equipment is state owned, teh militia arms itself. We know a priori soldiers are getting overpaid because 1)Joining the military is fundamentally voluntary and 2)there is overemployment in the military. From those two facts we know they are getting overpaid and the only reason their wages and benefits aren't going down is because their incomes and benifits as a result of joining the military are paid with tax money. Soldiers would not get paid as much as they are right now in the free market.
War, it's how civilised societies rid themselves of their most uncivilised elements.

This Michael Crook, correct in many ways, is simply a terrible debater. Anyone who isn't brainwashed by the constant barrage of egocentric and unthinking Americanism knows that we do not owe our civil liberties to the military. That is a fucking ridiculous claim. Violence of any human form is the biggest threat to civil liberties that exists. I guess Hannity can't think far enough below the surface to see that fact.

It was the warriors of the Revolutionary War that freed us from the oppression of the English monarchy and allowed the Constitution to be drafted, thus giving us our civil liberties. It was warriors that fought the fascists in Europe and the imperialists in the Pacific that prevented them from extending their hegemony over us and our allies. I agree that many of the wars we have fought, there was no direct threat to such liberties being overthrown

@TehAwesomeness Militia and enlisted soldiers are not the same. Militia volunteers, (no or little pay) to defend their homeland and they are armed citizens. Enlisted soldiers are paid and trained by the government, their equipment is state owned, teh militia arms itself. Big difference, militia doesn't go on Imperialistic expeditions into foreign lands, the enlisted soldier does

We know a priori soldiers are getting overpaid because 1)Joining the military is fundamentally voluntary and 2)there is overemployment in the military. From those two facts we know they are getting overpaid and the only reason their wages and benefits aren't going down is because their incomes and benifits as a result of joining the military are paid with tax money. Soldiers would not get paid as much as they are right now in the free market.
