"Wonder-filly" RACHEL ALEXANDRA WINS PREAKNESS 2009

At this point, many of the entries have talent. But racing, in all sports, is about who shows/has the most talent on THAT day-during that race, and on this day, Racheal Alexandra won, hands down. Part of racing is finding that open window, luck, skill, timing and knowing your horse.

Great race! (my mare can beat her! lol) just kidding (but she can beat her in a 50 miler. lol)

@ginita105 Ruffian was a beautiful girl who sadly should have lived to have a filly of her own. In a way, Ruffian I think is calling Rachel from beyond, "don't let the boys intimidate you!! Run, sweetheart! run and finish what I started all those years ago!! And remember to enjoy every moment!!"

In no way is that happening.. Ruffian is from 40 years ago, In no way is she affilited with RA. The fantasy stuff like that I'm sorry to say doesn't happen. Rachel is her ownself, and has nothing to do with Ruffian.

WOW....She is something special. She is pure magic on the track with the stamina to run from the front, and the speed to hold off any challenger. MTB was no fluke. He won the derby against a field full of talent, but he couldn't run her down either. She is on her way to becoming a champion for the ages and earning herself a spot on that short list of all-time greats, filly or otherwise.

While I adore MTB, he has to rely on finding an opening as it takes half the race for him to get going. RA started in front and held that the whole race. I think RA is the better horse.

Right, a lot of people are saying MTB was the better horse because he had trouble getting through but MTB saved ground the whole way and only had to go wide on the stretch turn. RA was used big from the far outside to get position on the first turn, set fast fractions and still held on gamely. Plus listen to Calvin, RA didn't much like the going at Pimlico, RA didn't have an easy race either.

u r right. MTB will probably win the Belmont. It was so exciting watching him blast from last place to win the Kentucky derby, then do the same in the Preakness, and only lose by only 3/4 of a length. Non the less, RE is the first filly to win the race in 85 years. Totally exciting.

since u missed it, here is the vid from youtube. It is worth every minute 2 watch. Watch "Mine That Bird" move from very last to second place. Damn that horse can move. But he couldn't beat the Filly (girl horse). She's the only Filly to win the race since 1924. Awesome race!

With this race being so short it's certainly an advantage for a horse built more for short distance, as this filly is. If you can get out in front early you can hang on, barely, but with another 1/8 mi. even she would have faded. Even so if MTB wouldn't have gotten blocked/bumped around so much it would have won this race easily. It still almost won despite having to zig-zag it's way there. Clearly the best horse in the field and should be the Belmont favorite.
