  • It would be interesting to find a real life equivalent to "New England Wire and Cable" that made the very same "Peck's choice" back in the 90s (i.e. waiting for the storm to be over without investing in R&D) and see how they are doing in these days. Any idea?

  • Kodak company from EK to EKDKQ.PK

  • Why is Lawrence Garfield in parenthesis instead of Danny Devito in the description? And why are there two "l's" in election?

  • Saw this in Macroeconomics class. Awesome scene

  • Truth is both are right, the problem is. Danny DeVito is more right. Peck could have saved his company if he had invested in Fiber Optics instead of staying in the "buggie whip" industry...but he was stubborn and lacking vision and as a result Danny DeVito is needed to come in and liquidate the outdated company, so there can be a hope that something better will be built.

  • No, offense. You guys have no soul. No, offense. Just saying.

  • Most of the posters are horrible people who thought the guy from the movie OPM's Larry and Wall street's Gordon Gekko was the good guy. No offense. But, you guys can't help it. You are like guys who kill people and say, "Hey, I am helping keep down overpopulation!"

  • @suitmanjm: Sorry, but most likely those jobs were going to be lost anyway. And your analogy to "guys who kill people" is pathetic and an appalling ad hominem. You haven't presented any credible counter arguments.

  • @suitmanjm yeah, funny story. Gordon Gekko, when acted out by Michael Douglas, was actually based on Oliver Stone. So all the wall street types imitating him, are actually impersonating a lefty filmmaker HA HA HA :)

  • And there's Mitt Romney's response to the stupid Bain Capital attacks all laid out for him.

Reality bites sometimes. And it won't be ignored.

  • Danny DeVito is a devout Hollywood liberal and his personal political beliefs are completely different from the character that he protrayed, as "Larry the Liquidator", in the movie "Other people's money". He publicly said that his character of "Larry the Liquidator" was absolutely abhorrent to him.

  • @SergeantAlvarez As it should be. Let take your own body minus your mind which is worthless. I could (Larry the Liquidator) get more from selling your other more profitable organs, not like your brain. We can it put in in a jar. You will be alive and your shareholders will make a profit. What do you say?

  • @suitmanjm How about if you try doing something like that and I beat your ass black and blue so bad that not even if your mamma would recognize you the next time she saw you ugly face or what would be left of it after I got through with you trying do what you say you want to do to me in your post? How about that?

  • Mayby Mitt Romney will invite Mr Gingrich, Mr Perry, Mr. Obama, and anyone else ill-informed on how capitalism works to watch this video and learn.

  • @rippinsteo Obviously it was a movie to say how wrong it is to cut up a business which as the movie said in the beginning if you weren't listening, went up in the stock market. It was not dead. It was still alive and had some problems but a strong constitution. It like two other 100 year old businesses outlasted the DEPRESSION. But it could not outlast Mitt. He killed those companies, sold the parts, and made out like a BANDIT.

  • @ suitmanjm: Whatever the intended point of the movie overall, the points made in Danny DeVito’s speech in this clip are sound and correct. I’m not sure what you mean by saying the business had a strong constitution, but the business was clearly dying, if not dead. Mitt would have potentially thrown the company a lifeline with no guarantee of success.

  • If I weren't already a committed capitalist, that would have sold me. Bravo DeVito.

  • as much as i hate corporate america and wall street assholes...danny devito just sold me lol

  • Love this scene. Ironic though that Larry got it *completely* backward about copper.

  • One of my favorite movies. "I'm not your best friend- I'm your only friend." That's what I used to tell my divorce clients.

  • @wppw123 You are just like him. If you think that is a compliment. Then good for you.

  • One of my favorite movies- Danny DeVito is exactly right. Spectacular.

  • larry the liquidator wins :p i've seen it

  • CFO MR LAWRENCE GARFIELD AKA LARRY THE LIQUIDATOR

  • i love it how the face of the president changes as the speeches are made.He sold the right to vote for his shares to De Vito. When Peck says "paltry dollars" he freaks out, when De Vito says "let's sign the death sertificate and collect the insurance" he no longer has any doubts. The second speaker took care of them.

  • @orcsheaddriller And as sad as it was, he was exactly right.

It's one thing when a technically obsolete company is still turning a profit...that's one thing.

But when it stops making money...let's fact it..."it ain't coming back" (speaking of profitability).

  • @hotFusionReaction i watched this movie again yesterday. It's not just technical obsolecense,Pecks' character is really living in his own world. His lawyer gave him ALL the good advise to fight and defend his company but he refused because,in his eyes, that would be giving in to blackmail. He really loved paying the patriarch but forgot that that role calls to defend the family.Yen,dollar, infrastructure but not anything he could have done.Amen

  • @orcsheaddriller I only saw the beginning of the movie. Does anyone give Larry a humanitarian award at the end? Do the people of the town put him up on their shoulders and sing his praises? Or, does a hooker with a heart of gold give him a thumbs up, then the credits of the movie roll up?

  • @hotFusionReaction Lets hope when you are in the hospital and not making any profit for anyone they don't just start selling off your organs. Hey, he can't work any more since he is paralyzed. Lets sell his heart to the highest bidder.

  • Does anyone have Garfield's speech to the BOD of Garfield Investments?

  • @EastCoastMarc try Other Peoples Money TRO.

  • @orcsheaddriller Thank you.

  • Garfield's right, if you don't make something anybody wants, you don't make it in a capitalist society, you don't make money.

  • @sparksza1 Tough, but fair.
