So,,, where's the dangerous landing?!? Looks like a pretty standard approach to Princess Juliana in St. Maarten to me. The only difference in this airport and most others is you aren't allowed this close to the runway anywhere else. This is among several airports around the world that present unique challenges to pilots. Princess Juliana has a very good safety record. Except for the goofs on the beach that think fence surfing is a good idea. Getting sand blasted isn't my idea of a good time.

@legomaster335 Okay, checked your vid's. The planes are much higher at the point you did the taping than Julianna. As I said, this isn't a dangerous approach, people and cars are much closer to the approach end of the runway than most other airports.

@GunBroker100 I have worked there for months on end. Every 747 landing is like that. They call that Jet Blast beach for a reason. Take-offs are very interesting too, as you the same 747's bring the engines up to full thrust before releasing the brakes. Princess Juliana is the shortest 747 runway in the world, and a very challenging take off for pilots. The Dutch and French airlines 747 pilots are the most senior ones from the pilot pool.

@grooverheliboy Um, I AM a pilot! T.O. is more dangerous for starters as you`re fully loaded with fuel and have very few options if you have engine failure. Plus you will be going at a relatively low speed and "new" to the flight. Coming in to land you will be used to the airplane, used to the conditions you`re flying in AND be light on fuel. When I was training that`s what we were taught anyway.

@Bitsforboats We have to disagree on this one as I am taught that landing has more problems than take off in that landing is more sensitive to airspeed,crosswinds and changes in wind direction.In addition you have big problems when landing in severe weather conditions such as rain snow and low visibility.

My view is all you have mentioned above (airspeed, crosswinds etc) are things that you are IN, as you are flying the plane, and therefore used to the conditions. On take off however you AREN`T in it yet, so as soon as the wheels leave the ground you are in an unknown until you have had a while to get the "feel" for it.
